Creating a Forest Getaway in Your Lounge

Featured

One of my favourite places to be is in a forest. How about you?

The comfort of being surrounded by trees, the freshness of the oxygenated air, the coolness kissing your skin, the aroma of organic mulch and the sound of a trickling stream.

Nothing like it.

It’s rejuvenating, refreshing and lets you truly feel your innate connectivity to Gaia. Thing is, not all of us can get to stroll through a forest every day.

This is the reason why I love to create woodland scenes on canvas. It’s my bit of escapism into an imaginary world of forest fantasy. Below is my latest painting called, ‘FOREST CHARM‘.

I’ve tried to capture all of the above-mentioned forest characteristics using a cool, pastel palette. I hope it evokes some of the pleasures of the woods for you.

The original is for sale at Saatchi Art (click here). I also have prints of all shapes and sizes available to fit every budget at Redbubble (click here).

Forest Scenes From the Studio

I’m SO getting back into painting my tree figures at the moment and it’s about time too!

After the guided meditation I went through at the beginning of last year (2014), that showed me a myriad of these images and profoundly nudged me in that artistic direction, I’m actually taking the full-on plunge now.  You can read all about the juicy details of that 2014 guided meditation HERE.

As the saying goes, better late than never!

The Lady of the Forest

Here is what emerged onto the canvas and it is followed by a short poem I conjured up in the aftermath, which epitomizes the feelings I was going through when painting this:

Poem behind the painting:

“The cancer is spreading by the roots through the forest — fear is its name.

Slowly consuming all life in its wake — no-one seems to know it’s there.

Who will save them, who even cares?

The one they call Motherby nature, She knows what’s best.

She’ll turn to the light, the giver of life, and deliver the cure through her matrix.”

We are all one, connected by our roots — the tree of life — when one suffers we all suffer, when one turns on the light, we are all illuminated.  I look into your face and see myself.  You are never alone, there is always hope.

Can Using Yellow in Art Enhance Your Mood?

Lemon Twist

dripping yellow paint

I’m going to start bringing out some art blogs with colour themes.  I know I’ve done this in the past but this time I’m going to have a twist.

The catch with this is looking at art from a zesty new perspective with regard to colour and emotion.

A Spiritually Colourful Palette

As most of you probably know, different colours have different significant meanings.  Not only are they used as metaphors — i.e. I’m feeling blue or he was green with envy — but we can also glean meaning from colours with respect to our auric system.

For more about aura’s, please visit this extremely useful site:  reiki-for-holistic-health.com

They Call me Mellow Yellow

Here is an extract from the above-mentioned site on the meaning for yellow:

YELLOW AURA COLOR MEANING: Relates to the spleen and life energy. It is the color of awakening, inspiration, intelligence and action shared, creative, playful, optimistic, easy-going.

Light or pale yellow: Emerging psychic and spiritual awareness; optimism and hopefulness; positive excitement about new ideas.

Bright lemon-yellow: Struggling to maintain power and control in a personal or business relationship; fear of losing control, prestige, respect, and/or power.

Clear gold metallic, shiny and bright: Spiritual energy and power activated and awakened; an inspired person.

Very interesting.  Now with that in mind, I’ve scrubbed through some of my art with a predominantly yellow theme.  Let’s take a fresh new look with those eyes that bare a greater insight now:

Yellow Skies, Lonely Tree

White Poppies

Golden Sunset Sailing

Path in the Forest

Yellow Sunset Triptych

Sunset in the Bushveld

Did any of these paintings make you feel any of the emotions from the above definitions for yellow? Or did it leave you cold?  Do you believe that colours can evoke certain feelings?

Please feel free to share your experiences and insights.

Cherie Roe Dirksen - Official Tree HuggerI love trees.  Any kind.

They are captivating, calming, beautiful, mysterious, life-giving (not only converting carbon-dioxide into oxygen but housing many a life-form), shade-providing and gracious.

So many poems and great works of art have taken root around trees — they certainly capture the human imagination.
