The Defector Recipe: JFK, Muse and YOU!

Muse Rock Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence.

On infiltration instead of invasion. On subversion instead of elections. On intimidation instead of free choice. On guerrillas by night instead of armies by day.

It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources Into the building of a tightly knit highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised.” — John. F. Kennedy

This is a segment of a speech given by John. F. Kennedy in 1961 that is the opening of Muse’s new song, Defector.

Rocking Out the Shadows

Albeit that JFK was aiming this at the Russians and the Cold War, this speech rings true when one associates the words with the ‘shadow government’ of today — wielding it’s blatant agenda whilst rubbing our noses in it.

Okay, I’m a big Muse fan and absolutely fell over myself when I listened to this new track — I was galvanized to the point of dropping everything to run off and join that infamous group, Anonymous, or see if Russell Brand needs some pro bono admin staff.

Defect or Die!

The song is about the unremitting human spirit, our freedom that is being sorely compromised and the independence we so richly deserve (if you haven’t heard it already, I will have the YouTube link at the end of the blog — I dare you to not jump out your seat and wave your freedom flag about whilst listening!).

Muse has hit the nail on the head, yet again, with this tune that incites one to take a stand against the tyranny of the powers that be.

So what does it mean to be a defector?

The shortened dictionary definition is a person who abandons another person, state/country, cause or doctrine to which one is bound by some tie (as of allegiance or duty).

Where Do I Sign Up?

I so want to be a defector!  I want to stick it to the man.

I’m sick of hearing about stories of police brutality, corporate and government corruption, Monsanto poisoning our food, fluoride in our water dumbing us down into passivity and confusion, lies being fed to us through the media and all the rest!

We’re supposed to elect the government to serve us but all they do is serve themselves and the greed of the corporate agenda.

We pay the salaries of the police to protect us but they turn on the very citizens that pay their wages.

Community, Community, Community…Oh and Town Meetings

So what can the man on the street do to defect without having to join some covert mission or underground group?

I was listening to an Australian radio presenter the other day (can’t remember his name unfortunately) and he said something that really struck a chord.

He was talking about recreating a sense of community where people can discuss issues and find solutions like they did it the golden days of yore — when they had something called a ‘town meeting’.

Bring back the town meeting, for lords sake!

He quite rightly went on to say that since we allowed TV’s into our homes, we generally abandoned getting together and discussing better ways forward due to the impression that the TV was giving us all the news and current event updates we needed.

If only we cottoned onto the fact that the media weren’t exactly always telling us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Give Me the Good News!

Okay, to cut a long rant short — the good news is that we can still take back the power.  That’s what this whole ‘awakening’ is about, right?

The more aware we are the more we can act and do something about the pickle we find ourselves in.

Just this morning I awoke to find 2 really great news stories — it starts to slowly restore ones faith in humanity and the power we, the people, truly have. Let me share them with you (their headings should clue you in as to what they’re about even if you don’t want to read them):

History Has Been Made. Female Genital Mutilation Banned In Nigeria

Organic Takeover: Toxic Food Makers Lose $4 Billion in Sales in One Year

Change starts one person at a time, one cause at a time and we should try to find solace in even the smallest arenas of positive change.

If you can ignite a fire in your community and start to get to know your neighbors and fellow townies, we most definitely will find our voices again and bring about a new paradigm on this planet.

Yup, it may not happen tomorrow but all the small success stories will eventually turn into an avalanche of human metamorphosis — a recasting of civilization as we know it.

Now, as promised, lend your ears and eyes to Muse’s ‘Defector’ and be prepared to be blown away!

Words of Wisdom From Matthew Bellamy

In homage to a great musician and pioneer of the truth — whose birthday it was yesterday (Happy Birthday, Matthew!) — here is a quote that I absolutely love from one of Muse’s songs:

Decoding Muse (Rock Art Painting no. 7) — ‘Resurrection’

Resurrection - Muse by Cherie Roe Dirksen lrLast week I had my grand reveal of painting no. 7 — a pictorial process that you can view here: The Resurrection of Muse — Rock Art Painting no. 7 Photographs — in this most tantalizing Rock Art Series (painting to my favourite rock musicians of all time!).

What’s This All About Again?

A quick recap about what this Rock Art Series is:  I approach the canvas with no expectation of what’s about to come out.  I paint subliminally to their music and experience a plethora of emotions and feelings related to the songs and possibly the quantum message behind the music/inspiration itself.

So what did I extract from the melodiously cosmic frequencies, vibrations and croonings of Muse? Before I get into that…let me whet your appetite with some of my favourite Muse songs performed live:

The Resurrection of Greatness

As I paint, certain words just pop into my head.  I scribble them down on the side of the canvas.  Here were the words that came up whilst painting this:

  • Form Structure/Restructure
  • Power/Control
  • Penance/Redemption
  • Longing/Sorrow
  • Warrior
  • Bondage/Bonded
  • Grace/Beauty
  • Remorse/Regret
  • Searching
  • Lost
  • Love

It’s quite a list!  But then Muse have quite a lot of albums/songs/issues they address — so no real surprise there!

Dissecting the Painting — Piece by Piece

Muse 1The top left half of the painting (as seen in the pic above) was just weird.  There’s a blue insectoidal bird type-thingy (life on other planets? Panspermia perhaps?).

The background definitely felt like ‘space’ or the cosmos and I think the silver splodges of foil may have represented some kind of space-craft(s).  I even marked a couple of them with the letters ‘io’ — does it mean anything?  Maybe time will tell.

The green alien head was a metamorphic process.  At first it was just a kind of lense flare, then I started adding a light green nebula formation and when I stepped back there was a face!  It morphed out of thin air. Muse 2 The middle of the painting (as seen above) has clay figures emerging from a pool of blood and earth.

What looks like an alien egg with a green pregnant lady and another greenish lady’s profile.  Oh lord!

There is also a skeleton alongside the biggest clay figure.  I couldn’t help but think ‘clones’ when I was painting this.  And as I said in the previous blog, I had no idea back then that Muse’s new album was titled ‘Drones’.

Could this section represent exogenesis (a beautiful 3 part symphony off ‘The Resistance’ album, meaning ‘outside origins’ or ‘origin from external causes’ — you can LISTEN TO THE SYMPHONY HERE)?  Is it the missing link?  Anyone who’s read Zecharia Sitchin will be smiling and nodding at this point.  Hmmmm….

Muse 3There is a very unusual scene happening in the bottom left-hand corner (picture on your right).

This revelation was quite something.

The fish is swimming upstream in water with what seems to be some kind of egg spawn or roe floating about.

There is a specter/ghoul/ghost/dementor type-creature emerging from the water (I can’t say I got a good feeling about this character — it seemed to be a kind of energy drainer/something to be avoided at all costs type-entity).

Then there is this beautiful woman leaning up against the buildings.  She was a complete surprise.

One night, after a painting session, I took my brush (with black paint on it) and wiped it across the canvas in an attempt to clean it.  When I came back to the painting the next morning, I saw her profile and arms behind her neck and just proceeding to bring the rest of her out of obscurity.

She reminds me a bit of the woman from the movie Avatar — she also looks a bit like a warrior. She is also slightly reptilian, having a fan of ‘scales’ running up her back and head — this could also be indicative of the kundalini energy.

I feel that she also represents balance — she has all the chakra points painted on the outside of her body.  She gives me a feeling of temperance or self-control/self-regulation.

Muse 4Then there is the mid to bottom right-hand corner (as seen in the picture to your left) where we have earth merging into metal (or perhaps the telluric/elemental realm) that drips and gives way to the material world represented by skyscrapers — our ultimate disconnection from our origins/nature/earth.

The silver paint is dripping on the face of a man (profile) who looks like he is a bit of a lost soul.  Perhaps indicative of the hollow disconnection we feel in the world of steel, concrete and enslavement to the system?

In Conclusion…

This painting is like a cosmic full-circle of exo-origins mingled with earthly origins coinciding with the elements of ether, water and earth to conclude in soul versus material realm.

Shew!  I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted…lol.  It’s a busy work of art!

The albums I listened to whilst painting this were:

  • Showbiz
  • Origins of Symmetry
  • Black Holes and Revelations
  • Absolution
  • The Resistance
  • 2nd Law

The next Rock Art painting is going to be Rufus Wainwright (read more about him here). So don’t forget to ‘follow this blog’ or subscribe (see left-hand sidebar column).

  • What do you get out of this painting?
  • Did my explanations resonate with you?
  • Do you have something to add or embellish on?
  • Are you a Muse fan?

I’d love to hear from you!Tote Bag

Header Muse by Cherie Roe Dirksen

If you don’t already know about this series of paintings to the best musicians ever — please check out the other works of art and how I subliminally came about them HERE.

So far I’ve covered (with lashings of paint and canvas) Radiohead, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Skunk Anansie and Templeton.

I’ve just worked out that it has been a whole YEAR since I did painting no. 6!  Where has the time gone?

Couldn’t Have Planned it Better

I’m a firm believer in things happening in their own time and for the right reasons and this painting just happens to coincide with the hype to the release of Muse’s 7th album, ‘Drones’ — due out on the 8th June, 2015.

I would like to say that this painting was finished a few weeks ago — before I knew what the album was called — and due to unforeseen circumstances (me and my hubby, Mike, having had the privilege of being in the movie, ‘Detour’ being filmed in our town and then us both getting ill on top of that!) I haven’t had the chance to reveal it yet.

Drones, Clones and Blood

What really struck me when Muse released the name of the album ‘drones‘ (and all three of the members having their eyes blacked out on one of the promotional photo’s) was that there were (in the painting) strange clay-like creatures that immediately emerged from the middle of the canvas and I jokingly said to Mike that they look like ‘clones’.

One of these clones even has wide, white, staring, blank eyes…eerie or just proof of quantum revelations?  Can we really pluck things from the ether before they are physically ‘out there’ — i.e. did I tap into what was going on in the Muse studio?

I really dig how this works!

A friend of mine got a sneak peak over Skype as I was in the process of painting this and asked me what all the blood was about in the center of the painting.  At the time I had no idea because, as most of you know by now, these paintings materialize themselves — I’m just acting as the conduit.

Muse just released their first song ‘Psycho’ with a video on Saturday and as it started nearing the end, the penny dropped…

There was blood all over the one characters face and the song is generally about the ‘manufacturing’ of soldiers to become mindless killing machines.

I hope I’m whetting your appetite here.  Cause further down I’m going to take you on the pictorial process — the start to finish photo’s of what is called ‘Resurrection’.

The Evasive Message Behind the Art

In next weeks blog I’ll be taking you through the emotions that came up whilst painting this so we can get a better perspective of what this artwork may represent.

Personally, I’m still a bit in the dark and will have to mine the painting to extract the subliminal message by unpacking the words I jotted down on the sides of the canvas.

So, without further ado…let’s have a look at MUSE on canvas:

Can Music Jump-Start Humanity’s Awakening?

Musical Ensemble by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“Music can change the world because it can change people.” — Bono

Music is a powerful, invisible force — from the heart-expanding sound of a nightingale to the gut-wrenching frequencies that all genres of music can sting you with.

I think you would be hard-pressed to find a single human being who doesn’t love music in some form or another.

Music Goes Straight for the Jugular

Music has played a vital role in bringing global issues to the ears of thousands, if not millions, of people.

We had The Beatles gift us with ‘All you need is love’ — not only a catchy, warm and fuzzy chorus but a very wu wei (non-doing/action) spiritually insightful message in the verse.

The 1970’s had Neil Young courageously recording ‘Ohio’ — a brave and gutsy protest song highlighting the shocking shooting of 4 student protesters at the hands of the National Guardsmen under the Nixon government.

Eddy Grant made a stand with his anti-apartheid song, ‘Gimme Hope Jo’anna’ and Bob Geldof with Midge Ure managed to put together Live Aid, the global jukebox which brought the entire world together through music for a cause — an estimated 1.9 billion viewers watched the live broadcast.

“Music is the shorthand of emotion.” — Leo Tolstoy

These are but a few examples of music spreading messages like wild-fire — let’s face it, the news reaches a select few whilst music reaches the masses.

Would You Like Some More Subliminal Politics with Your Rock?

More recently we had British band, Muse, naming an entire concert ‘HAARP’ just to bring about more awareness to the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program.  And let me tell you, it worked!

I had no idea what HAARP was until I saw the concert and got curious.  It enticed me to watch the documentary, ‘Angels don’t play this HAARP’ — which I highly recommend.

“Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” — Jimi Hendrix

And who didn’t simply relish the Red Hot Chili Peppers for ‘Californication’ — the tempting yet fake dark-side of the Hollywood dream?

Music exposes us to issues and rattles our cages.  It galvanizes us to take action, it can be the biggest catalyst for change.

“None but ourselves can free our minds.” — Bob Marley

Stuck in The Net and Punching the Sky!

I have worked with musician, Templeton, on many of his projects — from designing 3 of his album covers to working on his music videos.  When he called on me to help him edit his latest project, ‘The Net’, I was blown away!

His song really got me all energized and stirred something in me that was palpable — like I needed to stick it to the man (whilst playing some air-guitar)!

This got me thinking about music and it’s influence on the masses, which inevitably culminated in this article you’ve just read.

Before I introduce you to the song that sparked off this blurb, I want to ask you (because I know I’ve left out a gazillion songs that need mentioning here):

  • What song does it for you?
  • Which timeless classic gets you riled for action, firing on all cylinders, ready to take on the fat cats, electrifies your mind, enlightens your soul or was just darn right instrumental in your awakening?

Please leave your comments below.

Back to ‘The Net’…

“The chorus exclaims a lot of ‘Yada yada yada’ which is an urban term for a conversational gloss-over, much like ‘blah blah blah’ (empty talk). It is also a Hebrew word meaning ‘to know’, which is what this song is truly about — to get people to know the truth and to stop listening to all the bullshit.” — Templeton (excerpt from song description)

This song is worth sharing — from it’s unstoppable toe-tapping, rock beat to the underlying message of exposing the distorted media, the imminent uprising of the youth and the most obvious solution to all the global BS.  Here it is:

The Shortlist of Muso’s to Make the Grade

I launched my new idea for an art collection last week, please read it here to recap.

The bands and musicians that I am going to explore auditorily and interpret visually on canvas are (in order of my being introduced to their music):

  1. David Bowie
  2. Queen
  3. Pink Floyd
  4. The Beatles
  5. Skunk Anansie
  6. Radiohead
  7. Rufus Wainwright
  8. Templeton
  9. Muse
  10. Jeff Buckley

Ha!  And there you have it…I will be embarking on the first painting of this series this week and, with a bit of cosmic luck, may have something to blog about next week.

Proceedings…

I am not going to pressure myself to paint in this order — I am basically going to work it on my mood and who I feel like listening to at that given time.  Make sense?  No?  Well, that’s fine!

Wish me luck as I have no idea how this is going to turn out  🙂

10 Bands, 10 Paintings…Let the Rock Art Begin!

Coming Out of a Black Hole and Having Revelations

Yeah, the global energy of late has been intense.  Making us all bunker down for some quiet time, and if not, forcing you to cease and desist.

Have you been lacking inspiration, creativity or get up and go?  Well, I have.

Hatshepsut TempleThese last few weeks since I returned from Egypt have been damn right frustrating.  I’ve lost my pluck, mojo and anything else you want to call it.

I’ve picked up the paintbrushes and seem to be trying to repeat old patterns in creativity that just don’t work for me anymore.

“It could be realism, abstract, impressionism, crapism or bullshitism…who knows?  We’ll just have to wait and see.”

But this weekend I had a revelation…

Who The Hell Am I?

Yes, that old humdinger.  What can I truly offer the world that is unique and not only that,  stay completely in alignment with who I am?

Not easy and a question I am not alone in having to come up with an answer to — this seems to be the common thread or million dollar question among most people this year, if not this lifetime!

I Am…

I sat down to have some quiet time to reflect and saw a storyboard of everything I have done since I left school.  I know that I am intrinsically an artist, musician and a writer and I have tried to merge the 3 in this website but something still hasn’t clicked into place. In a nutshell, it went like this:The Bends

Above (Photo of our band The Bends taken in 2001)

Cherie playing BassThe Younger Years — Left school and played bass in 2 rock bands.  Last band (The Bends — you guessed it, we were all Radiohead fans…yeah yeah) recorded 2 albums and got some radio play.  After the music scene cooled off and my weariness set in I up and left for the UK.  Photo (right) — in Paris Studio recording our 2nd album.

Travel Bug — In the UK I started painting again.  Got back home, 3 years later, and started painting full-time.

Crossing Abbey Road London

Above — In the UK, at the famous ‘Abbey Road’ crossing, London

Profile PictureDivine Revelations and Ants in my Pants — Started feeling ‘pushed’ to write my book ‘Divine You’ in 2010 and did so, focusing all my energy and attention into getting it published and promoting and blogging, etc.

Footnote — Here I am, having come full circle with all 3 of my major interests but I feel like I need to break free from the confines of every single one of them.  I need to fuse them into a trinity of talents that will truly showcase the uniqueness of my being.

New Realizations:

I am a rock chick, a philosopher, a creative, a free spirit, a wanderer, a listener, an adventurer, a seeker, a trailblazer…so what am I trailblazing?

” I am more than the ceiling limit I have built over my head.”

I feel like at the moment I am trying to conform to the standards of any other self-empowerment writer (who just happens to paint and compose on the side).  No, this is not working for me.  I am more than the ceiling limit I have built over my head.

Major Refurbishing

I am going to be blowing through the ceiling.

My first adventure, that incorporates all 3 of my pursuits, will be to do a series of 10 paintings to my favourite bands or musicians from the dawn of my time here on Earth.

Musical Mural A little background:  I love to turn on the stereo in the morning and blast out my favourite music much to my husbands annoyance.  It just happens to usually be quite loud and obnoxious music for this time of the morning.  However the upside is that this ensures that the car gets washed, or that the lawn is mown (husband seeking refuge outside of the domain).

“I want to be activated into action first thing in the morning — and this plus a cup of coffee seems to do the trick.”

There is nothing like a bit of Airbag by Radiohead to get the blood flowing after a long nights sleep or head-banging your way to the bathroom to get cleaned up to Hysteria by Muse.  Who can’t be put into a good mood when you are listening to Queen’s I Want to Break Free?  Or even better, David Bowie belting out ‘Drive in Saturday’?

Yes, I know, I am a bit odd.  This is probably not the best morning music soiree (I am told this is strictly night-time music) but I simply can’t wait for night-time to arrive, I want to be activated into action first thing in the morning — and this plus a cup of coffee seems to do the trick.

So Where is This Heading?  Get On With It, Girl!

Okay, okay…I love rock.  Yes, oh yes.  So I have selected 10 bands to do 10 painting to.  I want to see what comes out whilst listening to their music.  I hope this experiment will be a visual feast and have no preconceived ideas of how any of it will turn out.  All I can guarantee is that I am going to have fun in the process and do whatever comes to me in the moment that I set aside to paint.

It could be realism, abstract, impressionism, crapism or bullshitism…who knows?  We’ll just have to wait and see.

I will be blogging (obviously) about each artwork and the process (so watch out for Tuesdays art blog).  And will reveal the top 10 bands/musicians that have been the greatest influence in my life in next Tuesdays blog.

So in the words of the famous Monty Python…”and now for something completely different”.  Bring it on!

READ THE GRAND BAND REVEAL HERE

Note to self:  Need to add new word invented in this blog to Wikipedia — ‘crapism’.  Needs no definition either, self-explanatory. Bullshitism seems to be a valid word because my spell check didn’t pick it up.

What are you struggling with?

Do you have yourself all sussed out or are you still in flux about who you really are?

Do you think it is important to align yourself with your core essence or do you think that is just a bunch of crap?

What is the Importance of 11-11-11?

Lighten Up!

So that much-anticipated date has come and gone…what now?  What was that about?

For those of you who don’t know, in a nutshell, the number 11 in numerology means illumination or ‘light-bearer’.  It is a master number that cannot be broken down (ie. in numerology if you get a 12 it needs to be broken down to 3 – 1+2=3).

When you have a triple date it is like a holy trinity for this number – triple potency (see ‘Why  3 is a Magic Number’).

11:11 on the Clock

Have you been glancing at the clock or computer screen (or anything else like a till slip or number plate) and seeing the number 11:11 a lot?

“If the collective give it a positive meaning then it becomes potent.  So even if this number is a man-made phenomenon, that is great! “

It is a sign or a wink from spirit saying ‘we are here, we love you’ – a reminder that you are never alone on your path to enlightenment.  It is also a wake-up call to those who are still in the dream of reality.

There are some skeptics who would say, ‘just a coincidence’ or ‘you are giving it meaning’ and the answer is a resounding ‘yes!’.  You are the creator of your experience, so whatever meaning you give this IS.

If the collective give it a positive meaning then it becomes potent.  So even if this number is a man-made phenomenon, that is great!

We are co-creating a beautiful thing and that is how this works.

Nothing Happened!

Nothing much will be experienced in linearity but there was an influx of cosmic energy on this date.

Symptoms were as such:  heart palpitations, anxiety, nervousness, excitement, nausea, buzzing (no not from the coffee) and the list goes on.

When you look at these symptoms you have to realise the significance of the conditions when you are relating them to an energy surge.

Chaos Theory

What we are supposed to do with this ‘energy’ is to transmute it for the highest good.  When you are co-creating in this reality, everything you do is felt as a whole as we are all connected.

So when you use this energy for purposes that are not beneficial to you or others, you are spreading a ‘chaotic’ energy.  You are the hurricane.

“It is your choice if you want to be in the chaotic form of this energy “

When you are using this energy to spread love, harmony and compassion, you are in alignment with your higher self and the good of all – you are the butterfly.

Butterflies and Hurricanes

It is your choice if you want to be in the chaotic form of this energy and use it to create disharmony (the hurricane) or whether you want to elevate yourself and create a world of love, joy and pure freedom (the butterfly)…

There is an awesome song by Muse called ‘Butterflies and Hurricanes‘ give it a listen here.  It’s sure to kick-start your day!

Hop on Board the Roller-Coaster (Regrettably, Not Optional)

This NOW moment might feel like a roller-coaster ride and it is.  What you have to determine is, would you like to enjoy the ride or be petrified?

Fasten your seat-belts because either way it’s going to be a blast!

Use this energy to create what you want to see in your life.  Set your goals and focus on that.  If you don’t want chaos in your life then take your focus off of that.  Do not give chaos a thought – blank your mind and start visualizing what you do want.

Spill Your 11:11 Beans…

Let me know about your experiences on 11-11-11 or the build up thereto…I’d love to hear them.

My husband saw 2 flashes of light across the sky at about 13h00.  He said it was like someone was taking a giant flash photograph and it only lasted for about a second.
