5 Super Easy Exercises to Creating a Positive Life!

Positive Thinking Banner

“In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.” — Dalai Lama

Stepping Up to the Plate

You’re probably familiar with the saying ‘what you think you create’ but how can you seriously filter every bad thought? There is a way, I promise. But before we delve into the amazing powers each of us possess, we have to get one thing straight…

There’s only one person responsible for what you think and do and that’s YOU.

If the thought of being the creator of your reality scares the willies out of you, then read on…

The Freedom to Be Happy

Can you remember learning how to swim or ride a bike?  Can you see how determined you were to succeed because you knew the pay-off was going to be huge?

You may have started off with water-wings, splashing about aimlessly— gulping in water — or peddling your heart out whilst trying to maintain your balance even with the training wheels on!  But that child never gave up.

Then what came next once the wheels were removed?  Probably scrapes and bruises the first week but did that deter you?  Did you give up then?  Probably not.  You wanted to ride!  You were hell-bent on feeling the wind on your face and the freedom that would bring with it.

Same goes for swimming — gliding about in the water refreshes and frees your body of weight.  You knew that swimming was going to be the biggest trip ever!

Where am I going with this?  Your thoughts need training wheels/water-wings if you want to experience the same freedom from negative thought.  And here’s how you’re going to do it…

Getting Real Right NOW

Here are a few things you can start to do today to become more aware and proactive with your thoughts:

  • Morning Motivation — When you wake up, give yourself 5-10 minutes to think about what how you want to see this day play out.  See if you can catch any worrisome or negative thoughts before they take hold of the exercise.  Put up a STOP sign in your mind and gently kick those blighters to the curb.  Then bring your focus back to visualizing your positive day ahead.  Try to smile and see/feel yourself enjoying this bright new day.  Emotions back your thoughts into manifestation. Read related article: How Good Are You Out of Bed?
  • Mind Mangle Cleanse — During the day (if you are but a mere mortal) you will probably find yourself slipping into worry, blame, anger, despair and an array of other harmful mind banter.  You may even find that your head is throbbing because of all the distorted ‘mind mangling’ that’s going on up there.  Here’s  your chance to hold up that STOP sign again and see if you can look at things from a different perspective.  Most of what we worry about never comes to pass and most judgments/situations when seen from a different angle can evoke empathy instead of anger.  See if you can alchemize your thinking — in other words, find the treasure in the trash. Read related article: 3 Ways to Alchemize Chaos
  • Marrying the Mind — When you start to get a hold on your thought stream and just how much power you DO have over it, you can start to have a better relationship with your thinking.  You are now in control and you can focus your inner dialogue on what serves you instead of calling in all the unwanted experiences.  Start your affirmations off with a strong ‘I am…’.  For example ‘I am going to have a great day today’, ‘I am going to have a safe trip’, etc.  Try avoid the phrases ‘I desire’ or ‘I want’ because it only brings more desiring and wanting for the future.  When you use ‘I am’ it is in the present tense and is happening right now not in some future timeline.
  • Re-Member — We often get lost in ‘doing’ and not ‘being’.  Try to remember all the things that make you happy and bring you joy. When you smile the world smiles with you.  So, remember to feel gratitude for life, nature and the people that make your world spin.  Look at every magnificent dawn or sunset as a blessing, every fragrant flower or birdsong as a gift, every smile or hug as a gesture of love and draw on those experiences when you’re in a negative frame of mind.  See if you can remove yourself from a negative situation and sit under a tree or listen to some soothing music.  Seek out those small but beautiful moments in your life and embrace them.  Hold them close to your chest and bring them out when you need to.  It’s bound to make you smile. You can always alter your reality at any time.  Don’t forget that.  If you choose to stay in the gloom, then just know that ‘this too shall pass’.
  • Over and Out — At the end of the day, review what happened and see if you can pick out any situations that you have turned around in reality.  Did you manage to have a good day?  Did things turn out like you affirmed in the morning?  Or close to?  Or can you do better tomorrow?  Keep trying and if you do see results it’s going to make you more determined — just like that little tike on the bicycle, gearing up for the next day’s practice.  Because you know that practice makes perfect!

“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” — Joyce Meyer

You will get a grip on your oh-so-powerful thought stream and you’ll be able to eventually steer those thoughts to benefit your life in ways that will make your head spin — in a good way!

Now it’s up to you to give yourself a reason to smile every day.

Plot Twist! 3 Things You Desperately Need to Know About Game Changes

A friend posted a quirky quote to my Facebook wall the other day — it read:

When something goes wrong in your life just yell, “Plot Twist!” and move on.

I had a good laugh and then a light-bulb went on in the old noggin — that’s totally true and a helluva great life strategy!

Here’s why:

  • It was Shakespeare who cited that all the worlds a stage and all the men and woman merely players. Bearing this in mind, we are all in a kind of giant theatrical production and can, at any point, be the actor, director, script writer or producer.
  • Being part of the cast and crew is great news because whenever there is a twist in the tale or the plot thickens, we can interpretatively work it out and move along with the other players — yes, a bit like a pantomime.

How Can We Rewrite Our Scripts to Better Suit Our Needs?

I can’t help you with absolutely every twist and turn — inevitably life is going to throw a curve-ball, surprise or unexpected hurdle in the path of every living player — all I can do is offer perspective.

Here are 3 things to contemplate when you come across a “Plot Twist”:

  1. sub buttonReason — I know a lot of people despise the old adage, ‘everything happens for  a reason’…but, really it does. You may not be able to see the end result from where you’re standing but there is a greater scheme at work in our lives. If you want to call that major playwright God or your Higher Self, be my guest, but if there’s one thing I’ve noted in my life, it’s when I think I know what’s best for me and try to control my destiny — I get a plot twist. And I don’t think it’s a form of punishment, not at all. From my experiences these ‘plot twists’ have always worked better for me than anything I could have tried to dream up for myself. It’s like a slipway to your destiny. When we try to control everything, we can be very shortsighted. The universe is trying to work with you to get you what you want quicker than you could ever attempt. So when we seem to hit a bump in the road, it could be a detour to a better situation even if it may not look that way at first. Sometimes it takes years to see the outcome of one of these ‘twists’.
  2. Rhyme — this is when you end with a sound that corresponds to another. Huh? Oh come on…I had to work rhyme into reason! But seriously, we can write the scripts of our lives to some extent. If you encounter a plot twist and you feel things are unraveling at the seams, write your own ending! Use the curve ball to add an interesting turn in your life. In other words, from this moment on, get down on paper how you want to see this specific ‘scene’ turn out. Then inject the outcome with feeling, like it’s already on DVD. Rewind and replay this episode in your mind knowing that the conclusion is something you really want and can feel.
  3. Playfulness — seeing you’re already in a play, you may as well be playful! Or, in other words, find the humor in your plot twist. There’s always something to laugh about, it may as well be our pickles as much as our pleasures. Nothing kills a bad mood more than laughing. When you can do this you can be lighthearted. When you’re lighthearted it’s easier to find the up in the down. There’s nothing wrong with being down for a while but at some point, one must make the effort to get back up — humor is always going to be your greatest ally.

Have I lost the plot completely? Gone round the twist? You’ll have to wait for the sequel!

Open Your Third Eye and Awaken Your Pineal Gland With These Simple Exercises (This Really Works!)

In Thought

CLN Editor’s Note: I tried the Awakening I exercise last night, honestly not expecting much. But wow does this work. About three minutes after completing the exercise, my forehead began to tingle, and suddenly I felt a rapid sense of expansion in the middle of my brain (where the pineal gland is located), along with an uplifted and expanded state of consciousness bordering on a mild and pleasant pyschedelic experience. I will be doing this exercise daily from now on until it’s time for Activation II, and encourage you to try them for yourself.

Awaken Your Third Eye — The Easy Way

By Lapis Links, CureZone Blogs

Note: Original article edited by CLN for formatting and clarity

AWAKENING I:

Please read all of the following;

If you wish to perform this exercise, you need to understand what you will be doing. It is important to follow the instructions as this is somewhat advanced:

The Third Eye is directly related to the 6th chakra — the psychic chakra, located on the middle of the forehead above the brows. It is closely associated with the “pineal” gland. The pineal gland is dormant in most people, as is the true Third Eye.

French Philosopher Rene Descartes believed the pineal gland to be “the seat of the soul” where mind and body met.

In the average person, the pineal gland is atrophied, [calcified] and dormant. The following exercise will change that.
Please read this thoroughly, as much of the exercises I write of are very advanced and can cause problems if one does not do them correctly.

The pineal gland is like a pea in size; like a shriveled raisin in most people where it remains dormant.

Opening the pineal gland/3rd eye:

This is done with a specific tone and chant. You only need to do this exercise for 3 days, afterwards, it is permanent.

The mantra to be used is “Thoh,” pronounced “TOE.”

It must be within the correct vibration.

Not deep, not high pitched, inbetween, like alto range.

You will feel it when you hit the correct tone. So play around and don’t second guess yourself. When you think you’ve got it, you probably do.

1. Sit with your back straight.

2. Breathe in through your nose and hold your breath as long as is comfortable.

Open your jaws so there is a small space between your top and bottom teeth.

Place the tip of your tongue between the space of your slightly parted teeth.

3. Put a very light pressure onto the tongue with your teeth.

This is like the same process of saying the “TH” part of the English word “the.”

Once your tongue is in position, release your breath slowly through your mouth, saying T-H-H-O-H-H in one long exhale.

Say the word one time per exhale. Your tongue will be vibrating between your teeth.

You should feel the air moving past your tongue and teeth.

If this technique is done properly, you will feel a pressure or sensation in your jaw and cheeks. The tone will also vibrate in your third eye.

It may take a few seconds to adjust this, don’t worry, just keep going.

4. Do the above 5 times in a row.

5. It is very important the above exercise be done for 3 consecutive days, 24 hours apart. Then it is a done deal.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

1. One of the first experiences is a headache or pressure in the center of the forehead. This sensation may also feel like it is originating from within, usually an inch or more beneath the surface of the forehead. This is a positive indication the pineal gland is awakening and beginning to function in a healthy manner.

*Some people can experience a migrane lasting several hours, so to be safe it is recommended that you try this in the evening when you do not have work to do. The severity of the side effects will depend on how atrophied/calcified your pineal gland is to begin with.

2. After the occurence of headache or pressure in the forehead, you may wake up one morning with a throbbing or tingling sensation in your forehead; it may feel like a goosebump.

The feeling may be very intense, like something is there. The sensation of pulsing or throbbing will continue throughout the day, and you may “hear” sounds coming from within your head, such as light popping or crackling sensations.

These are the final phisiological events you may experience after opening up your third eye.
It indicates your pineal gland is awakened, functioning and alive.

PSYCHIC EFFECTS:

You may experience any or all of these to varying degrees:
  • Faster, easier learning and retention
  • Marked increase in intuition
  • Increased creativity
  • Psychic gifts develop and become markedly stronger, along with more developed ability to see or sense human auras
  • Clairvoyance (psychic vision) opens up
  • Clairaudience (psychic hearing) opens up
  • Clairsentience (psychic feeling/touching) opens up

This is a very powerful exercise, and as with all powerful practices, your body may go through discomfort in order to adapt.

CLN Editor’s Note: I have taken considerable steps over the past few years to awaken and decalcify my pineal gland, and as such, I experienced no side effects other than an intense but not-uncomfortable feeling of pressure in my forehead and third eye that was just shy of a headache. So not everyone will experience side effects.

AWAKENING II

In order for this to work properly, you must have already performed the Awakening I exercise.

I included this above for those who are new.

It is very important to wait for 10-14 days following Awakening I, before you go onto Awakening II, otherwise the exercises won’t be effective. Your body needs time to adapt and get the energy flow going.

This exercise is completely euphoric and intensley pleasurable. Unlike Awakening I, this should be done once a week, and given the blissful effects that are lasting when done correctly, most people will enjoy doing so.

Breath in deeply and hold your breath for a count of five.

Repeat this three times.

This helps you to be relaxed and focused.

Now focus all of your attention upon your third eye.

You should begin to feel a sensation similar to the effects of the Awakening I exercise — a slight pressure or awareness of the spot of your third eye.

Now, take a deep breath as you did for the Awakening I exercise.

Hold it for as long as comfortable  — do not push this —  and release your breath, vibrating the word “MAY.” This is pronounced like the English language word for the month of May.

It should all come out at one time- M-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ay, gradually and slowly.

It is ok to adjust your pitch. The tone should be alto.

Breath in again, and repeat this five times.

You need to hit a certain pitch. You will know when you do, for you will feel this in your head. Do the best you can.

Now, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:

When vibrating the word “MAY,” feel the energy going into your head,
first into your third eye area,
then into the middle of your brain,
and then to the top of your head where your crown chakra is located.

REMEMBER: Concentrate on your forehead (third eye area),
then the middle of your brain
and finally the top of your head.

This is done for the duration of each chant.

1. Breath in.

2. Begin to exhale, vibrating “MAY.”

3. Concentrate on your third eye.

4. Concentrate on the middle of your brain.

5. Concentrate on the top of your head and finish exhaling the vibration.

Repeat four more times.

The effects of this exercise are extremely pleasurable.

A feeling of lightnesss can occur immediately following the exercise.

Some people may feel energy or tingling inside their heads, or completely covering their heads; a slight presure in the crown area and intense euphoria is also common.

The blissful state can occur hours and even days later.

This will eventually become permanent and will greatly assist in void meditation, clairvoyance, and the development of other psychic and paranormal senses.

For those of you who have been following my recent ‘drawing to the classics’ videos, this latest one is quite unusual. For those who haven’t, you can recap on the previous blogs here:

Viva Vivaldi! Connecting Us to Intelligent Design Through Music (incl. Art Process Video)

In a nutshell: I’m trying to tap into transforming music into art and extracting subliminal messages behind the music we are drawn to.

I’ve been working on a series called ‘Rock Art‘ that takes rock music and dissects it onto canvas in the form of a mixed media painting. You can view that process HERE (see what The Beatles or Radiohead looks like through art — it’s a must see!).

However, in this series, I am tapping into the classics.

Enchanting Tchaikovsky…Not!

I have always been a big fan of Tchaikovsky and remember — as a young girl — prancing, pirouetting and pussy-footing about my home reenacting Swan Lake and The Nutcracker Suite.

So, what came out of this session was not quite what I expected. I thought it would be all candyfloss and unicorns.

I always try to go into these meditative art sessions with no preconceived ideas about what is going to transpire. In this case, I was a bit gobsmacked (you’ll see at the end of the video).

What I could extract from the emotions that came out (see video for full list) was that there was quite a patriarchal overtone. Perhaps, not in a negative way but just in a structured, designed, orderly fashion. Which is a more right-brained approach to life.

Patience as Layers Unfold

We often find ourselves in utter chaos where things seem to be helter-skelter and have no particular order or meaning at the time.

Tchaikovsky’s music gave me a sense of there being a kind of cosmic joke with this seeming disorder.  It’s as if the ‘designer’ of all things is teasing us with the chaos only to have it complete itself or run its course to utter perfection and structure.

Our job is to be patient. Ha ha…not a trait most of us possess in copious amounts!

Nevertheless, patience is the underlying key and is a muscle that we need to train in order to navigate the chaos. Only then will we get to the perfect design that lies at the end of that wickedly taunting but intriguing tunnel.

Enough of my babble…just watch and see for yourself. If you don’t want to sit through the whole art/drawing process then skip to 23 minutes where you can see the explanation to it all!

And don’t forget to download your free copy of the picture below the video — pop on some Tchaikovsky and do some color therapy 😀

I’d love to hear from you — what feelings or emotions does Tchaikovsky’s music invoke in you? Did you enjoy watching the process? Did the explanation resonate with you, if not, what came up for you?

How Good Are You Out of Bed?

“I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

You may be good (or, in the above case, not) in bed but how good are you at rising? Right, now that I have your attention…

This is Not About Sex

Sorry, I just had to come clean upfront.

This is about whether or not you’re a morning or a mourning person. Are you the kind of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed homo-erectus? Or, like me, someone who just can’t get up at the crack of dawn for love nor money.

As I lay in bed, one fine morn, contemplating how I could motivate myself up and at ’em, I came across this blog just strolling across the ethers waiting to be plucked and materialized for your benefit (hell, even if you are the above-mentioned chirpy squirrels — you might get something out of this!).

3 Ways to Have You Leaping Out From Under the Covers!

This is how I sometimes manage to get my sorry derriere out of the plush wonders of my warm and cozy cot, should they work for you I would be most pleased:

  1. Get Happy — my fuzzy place has always been with music. If I can listen to music and dance about the house whilst cleaning the toilet, I’m happy. No music and I’m a miserable git. So, the first thing that motivates me out of bed is the thought of putting on my favourite song. Do you have a morning song?

“Forget your troubles and just get happy. You better chase all your cares away. Sing Hallelujah, come on, get happy”

  2. Get Plotting — Director, direct! Visualize, while your still under the blankets, what this day is going to look like. Inject it with good feelings, positive thought streams and tell yourself this is going to be a great day. Dang, it could very well be the best day of your life so far! Whatever you have to face today, affirm that everything will go smoothly and that you’re going to have loads of fun and reasons to laugh. Whenever I do this visualization technique, it absolutely affects how my day starts to unfold (for the better, I guarantee!).  You will start to see just what an incredibly powerful creator of your experience you are. Related article: 16 Positive Affirmations for the Morning
  3. Get Dressed for Success! — Roxette hit the nail on the head. You can be as spiritual as punch but you’ve still got to get grooming. Why? You feel better when you look better. This is not as much a vanity thing as it is a common sense thing. You feel better when your house is clean and looks good, same goes for your appearance. If something you’re donning just doesn’t feel right, change! If you go about town all day feeling like a sausage that’s been squeezed into a pair of trousers, you’re not wearing the right pants! Don’t force a square into a round. Feeling good and clean about your appearance is vital to you stepping up to your day and saying, ‘booyah!’. I recently started gigging again and didn’t know what to wear on stage. I opted for a jeans and a t-shirt look at first but felt invisible. I then decided to bite the bullet and got togged up with jacket and boots and, boy, I felt sexy! The moment I stepped into that ‘role’ I felt on top of my game and people noticed too and started commenting on my look and performance. Dressing to how you feel does really make a difference.

Now it’s time to have that cuppa! 😉 Oh, and…

How Balanced Are You?

Bicycling Together by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Tipping the Scales

So, what is balance? It’s just the definition for an even distribution of something.  When you’re feeling out of kilter, it’s because you’re distribution is off whack. This can pertain to mind, body and spirit.

It sounds like a simple enough thing to get this so-called ‘balance’ in your life — it’s a no-brainer, right? Yes and no.

It can be simple enough. Example: ‘I’ve had too much pizza, tomorrow I’m only eating salad.’

That could be one way of bringing back equilibrium, in this case, to your body.

However, imbalance can creep up on you. Example: ‘I feel rotten…oh, maybe it’s because I’ve been on Pinterest (insert any other form of social media here) for 2 hours and my brain has turned to mush. I need to take a break and go potter in my garden.’

It can be darn right tough though with things that seem insurmountable and entrenched into the very fabric of our existence.

Example: ‘I work so much I haven’t got time for myself. It’s so hard to feel balanced.’ or ‘I know I smoke and drink too much, I feel it in my body but I don’t know what else to do to unwind.’

Trust in Your Innate Sense of Wisdom

A lot of the time our bodies/hearts whisper to us, hint at us, scream at us that something is wrong.

Our job is to listen.

We should endeavor to inject our awareness into our bodies, if there is discomfort — or into our hearts, if there is lack, sorrow or fear.

Here are some things you can do every day for more balance and harmony in your life:

  • Meditate — you know it’s good for you but do you ever get around to doing it? Meditation takes on many forms. You don’t have to sit in the lotus position to meditate ‘properly’ or go into transcendental states of consciousness for hours to achieve a quiet mind. Meditating could be to simply sit in your garden and listen to the birds or the wind. Meditating is something personal. Find the brand that works for you. Read more here: 5 Easy Steps to Meditating (No Lotus Position Required)
  • Spin — Barbara Marciniak spoke of this in her book ‘Bringers of the Dawn— Teachings from the Pleiadians’. It’s a practice I often use to get myself on track. It apparently enhances the spinning of your chakra system. The technique is to hold out your thumb and focus on that as you spin, slowly at first, 33 times — from left to right. Then you anchor yourself at the end by bringing your palms together, at chest level, and press whilst keeping your eyes open. You can read more about the exact process HERE.
  • Breath work — yup, we breathe automatically so why must we focus on that? Because most of us breathe very shallowly. Our bodies actually need focused, deep breathing to function at optimus prime. You can read more about that here:  What is Your Quality of Breath — Did You Know You Could Be Starving Your Body of Oxygen?
  • Eat Right — you are what you eat and all that blah blah…yeah, I know you’ve heard it all before but, seriously, it’s the truth! You’ve got to get real about what you put in that divine little temple of yours. It is in my personal opinion that you can still enjoy those ‘naughty’ things in life every once in a while, as long as you exercise (literally) self-control. I enjoy a glass of wine or a beer every now and again but let’s face it, if it goes out of balance and one drink becomes 5 you’re going to topple your equipoise. Too much of any one thing — even if it’s healthy — is not balanced. See what happens if you eat too many carrots…I dare you (*disclaimer: no don’t)! My husbands aunt once went on a carrot bender (I’m telling the truth!) and she turned orange. I kid you not.
  • Move — your body has muscles ergo it was made for movement. Walk, run, skip, hop, dance the fandango…do whatever it takes to build up a little sweat each day and keep that bod in tip top shape. Exercise really helps to maintain a healthy balance in your life. And if you work all day and are too tired to workout then take the stairs at the office, take a walk to the nearest park at lunchtime. There’s always something you can do to get active.
  • Watch Your Thoughts — a balanced body needs a balanced mind. You can eat organic, breathe deeply until you see cows come clambering home, exercise every God-given day, spin your butt off and yoga yourself into a pretzel to no avail if your headspace ain’t stepping up to the plate. If you find yourself on a negative downstream of thoughts, see if you can stop yourself and try to bring balance to the inner dialogue by counterbalancing the worry. In other words, start visualizing what you want to see happen and then let it go. Read more about how to here: 10 Ways To Transition From A Negative To A Positive Thinker

Try these things out and see how it makes you feel. If you can’t do every point — don’t sweat it! Do what you can.

Balance is something we all work at all the time. The key is to regularly scan ourselves for imbalance and to keep gifting ourselves with more quiet time.

Exploring Music and Tapping Into Meaning

In my previous video blogs I explored a haunting tune from Bach (view HERE) and the enticing sounds of Debussy (view HERE) through drawing to their music and seeing what emerges onto my whiteboard (including the feelings that arose).

Today, I immersed myself in the blooming, fresh sounds of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi — the Venetian Baroque composer from the 18th century.

There were several keywords that came up while I was drawing to the music:

  • Growth — the feeling of outward expansion and unstoppable life.
  • Portals — this was a strange keyword to come up but, in hindsight, I was drawing a lot of spirals which were purported to be ancient markers for portals or star-gates/wormholes. Read more about that HERE.
  • Sacred Geometrygeometric shapes and proportions found in nature believed to be the work of God. Also associated with Platonic solids and the golden means ratio (divine proportion). Related article: The Golden Ratio: Phi, 1.618
  • Flower of Life — otherwise dubbed ‘the pattern of creation’.

So, you can see there is a definite theme running here. The overall feeling I got from Vivaldi’s music was a connection to the intelligent design of the universe.

What is intelligent design?

Intelligent design is a pseudoscientific theory that some aspects of the universe and living things are best explained by an intelligent source rather than an undirected form of natural selection (as preposed by Charles Darwin).

It’s a buzz word that people use to replace the outworn version of ‘God’. I quite like it and it gives some relief to scientists who’d rather not stick their neck on the chopping block by using the G word.

It’s acronym is ID, which tickles my fancy as the word ‘id’ describes the part of the mind in which innate and instinctive impulses are manifested.

Feeling Alone in the Universe?

To conclude this prequel to my video: My gut was telling me — whilst in the process of making the video below — that if you’re feeling alone, losing your faith or connection to spirit or Source, pop on some Vivaldi! Or just go look at a flower — the Creator can be found everywhere in nature if you’re still enough and allow yourself to view the magnificence of creation.

Time Has Just Gone Awry (But I Have Brilliant Excuses!)

Shewee…the last few weeks have been a flash in the pan! I don’t know how you feel about the energies of late?

I can’t keep up with myself! On the upside, things are happening…I hope they are with you too?

Before I get into that, let me apologise for my shortcomings in delivering the scheduled Wednesday blog last week. I just darn-right forgot with all that’s been going down.

I don’t usually like to write about my own personal blah-blah’s but I just have to share some stuff and try and weasel myself off the hook for not getting around to last week’s blog.

Okay, So, Here’s Some Personal Stuff…

Not that I want to make excuses or anything (but I’m going to anyway!) but I volunteered my bass guitar skills for a David Bowie Tribute concert (with Paul Q and Templeton) that went down the Saturday before last in Cape Town.

It took us a couple of intense weeks of constant band practice to get our 2 sets of 20 songs together (excuse no. 1).

It was great, thanks (I know you just asked!) — it was actually a sell-out show…hoorah! So, we’ve decided to take it on to various theaters around the Western Cape.

Anyhoo…here are some YouTube clips of our performance. Such fun!

And Let’s Not Forget The Parlotones Gig!

My man and his brother (also known as ‘Band of Hats’) just fronted for The Parlotones a few weeks ago. So lots of excitement there in getting them all ready for the big day. I helped design their banner — as seen below — and prep with some products as well as help with the marketing (these things take time! Excuse no. 2) 🙂

010

012And, of course, I just have to throw in a photo of me and lead singer, Khan Morbee (left).

Now for my third excuse at missing last weeks blog…

The Garden Path — So Misleading!

Literally, Michael and I have been landscaping our back garden — and it involves lots of paths. This week-long exercise saw us pick-axing through our rock-hard, slate ground (we live in the ‘klein Karoo’ in South Africa which is quite barren) to carrying barrow loads of stones.

It’s all about blisters, blood, sweat and tears (yes, I actually cried after a hard grind of digging one day, I went and dropped a bag of cement on my toe!).

Thing is — it’s so damn rewarding that you just can’t stop until the job is done. And, well, the job is still ongoing. But I will try to stick to my writing commitments this week.

For those gardening enthusiasts or just curious folk, here are some photo’s of our garden projects.

Eat Your Heart Out, Moulin Rouge!

Oh…and did I mention we’re also doing stuff around the house (excuse no. 4)? Lik006e my lush and sexy new red accent wall in the bedroom! Provoking a passionate pastiche for Burlesque evenings. Say what? Oh, don’t make me repeat that!

It’s been on my to-do list for an age.

I also decided to try out hand-made branch chandeliers. Something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I love the way they turned out but…my word…what a palaver!

Sticks and branches everywhere — up your nose, in your eye and down your drain-pipes. I don’t know if I missed a trick 005but it was hell to put together. I thought it looked so easy when I saw it on Pinterest…he he. What a sucker!

You’ll see on your left the finished light fixtures now hanging in my lounge. They are quite cool, even though they were a nightmare to make, as they make you feel like you’re in a forest at night.

So what do all these excuses have to do with me missing last weeks blog? Especially as some of these things took place weeks ago?

Sheer mental exhaustion! And the dire need to just work in the garden. It’s been such an awesome grounding (no pun intended) experience. I had a clearing in my schedule last week and I took it. I’m sure you can understand 🙂

Have a super day! And it will be back to the usual Wednesday blog spot from this week on.

I’ve been doing some more drawing to classical music (Vivaldi to be precise)…I will post the video to that this Wednesday.subcribe button

The Greatest Task That Lies Before the Awakened Human Being

Butterfly on White Poppy by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“The law of attraction is infallible, and every single person is getting what they are asking for, even though most of the time each person is not aware that they are asking for what they don’t want. There is such absolute beauty in the law, which is so responsive and giving in every single moment so that we can experience our lives.

The law never changes — we must learn how to live in harmony with the law. That is the greatest task for every single human being.”

~ Rhonda Byrne (The Secret Daily Teachings)

Upside Down and Inside Out

Yesterday I was putting my video blog together. It’s usually a wee bit of a task and I’m prepared for that. I spent hours writing the forward blog and then got to editing and splicing the footage I’d filmed the day before.

For some strange reason, the footage came out sideways. No big deal as you can rotate it in the movie editor. My eyebrow raised. Was there some sort of hidden message in this for me today? (some of you may understand this form of questioning every nuance that is happening to you as some sort of inner reflection trying to out itself. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about — just put it down to certain madness).

I pieced the whole thing together and exported the video for YouTube. Uh…the whole thing was totally out of sync.

I went back to my editing dashboard — everything there was in total sync. Did the whole thing again. Still out of sync. I did it 3 times to no avail. My blood was boiling as I’m about to go on a trip today until Sunday and I simply don’t have time for these games.

I decided to give it a break and start my newsletter which was also due out yesterday. Another mammoth task that I don’t particularly look forward to (perhaps a clue?).

After hours of working on this, it was time to hit the send button. But what was this? My whole newsletter was suddenly out of alignment. There were boxes and sidebars in erroneous places! Oh lord!

Time to Stop, Drop and Reassess

Okay, at this point I was past mild panic and was heading straight for losing it completely. My husband reminded me to ‘take a knee’ before I blew a fuse. So I went to lie down to try and quiet the old noggin.

As I was looking up at the ceiling trying to do my breathing exercises (through flared and excited nostrils, I might add!), it hit me.

  1. I was in a hurry — I was attracting anxiety
  2. I was putting unnecessary duress on myself by demanding I complete these tasks today — attracting more stress and anxiety

Well, problem solved (almost). I was putting out general chaos and that’s what I was getting. Everything was topsy turvy thanks to me and my energy.

I had to stop and calm down before understanding what and why I was attracting mischief into my day. When I came to peace with my odd manifestations, I felt more in flow and in harmony with my projections. I accepted them and began to change the energy and move on.

After my epiphany, I sat down with my diary. I still had a couple of hours this morning to write a new blog (*a-hem*…this one), so, I reassigned the task and set my alarm to go off an hour early.

I already felt better. I had to still pack and get things ready for my trip but I did that with ease.

A Small Titbit About Synchronicity

I’m going to end this off by saying that the quote I started with came to me tsubcribe buttonhrough sheer synchronicity.

Read related article: Why You Need to Pay Attention to Synchronicity Now!

I was pondering, whilst packing, what I should write the ‘new’ blog about. I thought that maybe I should be honest and write about my little meltdown (but I thought perhaps my fiasco had the potential to bore you to tears).

I strode over to my bookshelf and ‘The Secret Daily Teachings’ lurched out at me. I picked it up and randomly opened it at the quote at the top of this article.

After reading it I started to chuckle. It was pretty much what happened to me during the course of the day and it looked like my meltdown was the very thing I needed to share with all of you upon this very morn.

I’d like to think that there must be someone out there who needed to hear this. If not, you’ve just wasted a good few minutes reading about superfluous misadventure.

Loving the Alien

My earliest memory of the legendary David Robert Jones was when my mother bought a record of his and I saw the cover (I think it was ‘Space Oddity’). I was 9 years old and fell madly in love with this androgynous, mysterious, beautiful, outrageous looking creature.

He was the poetic and rebellious inspiration I needed in my teens and I never outgrew his innovative and ground-breaking style of music. He inspired me to write, to be a musician and to be insanely weird…and proud of it.

Under Pressure

I have been practicing madly this week for a David Bowie tribute concert that I have agreed to do (I play the bass guitar) next Saturday in Cape Town. Within a couple of weeks of the show being announced it was sold out — a real testament to the popularity of this British musical icon even in the Southern most tip of Africa!

I had the privilege of seeing him live in action at Wembley Stadium, London, when he was on his ‘Reality’ tour. He was well into his 60’s at the time but his performance was monumental — an evening I shall never forget.

Rehearsing for this gig has given me a new-found respect for Mr. Bowie as his songs are some of the most complicated and difficult I’ve ever attempted. But what speaks to the soul must be pursued.

So, having Bowie on my mind — I’d like to share some zany quotes from the Thin White Duke:

  1. “I’m in awe of the universe, but I don’t necessarily believe there’s an intelligence or agent behind it. I do have a passion for the visual in religious rituals, though, even though they may be completely empty and bereft of substance. The incense is powerful and provocative, whether Buddhist or Catholic.”
  2. “I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, ‘F*ck that. I want to be a superhuman.”
  3. “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”
  4. “On the other hand, what I like my music to do to me is awaken the ghosts inside of me. Not the demons, you understand, but the ghosts.”
  5. “Don’t you love the Oxford Dictionary? When I first read it, I thought it was a really really long poem about everything.”
  6. “Speak in extremes, it’ll save you time. ”
  7. “I’m just an individual who doesn’t feel that I need to have somebody qualify my work in any particular way. I’m working for me.”
  8. “I’m a real self-educated kind of guy. I read voraciously. Every book I ever bought, I have. I can’t throw it away. It’s physically impossible to leave my hand! Some of them are in warehouses. I’ve got a library that I keep the ones I really really like. I look around my library some nights and I do these terrible things to myself–I count up the books and think, how long I might have to live and think, ‘F#ck, I can’t read two-thirds of these books.’ It overwhelms me with sadness.”
  9. When asked what the quality you most like in a man? “The ability to return books.”
  10. “You can neither win nor lose if you don’t run the race.”

Okay, no. 8 and 9 aren’t exactly THAT spiritual but I liked them anyway. Anyone with a fetish for reading and books would understand the hair-pulling anxiety of lending books.

I love no. 7 because we should all strive to please ourselves and stop trying to placate those around us forsaking our own needs and creativity. That should not be taken as a selfish thing but a self love thing. When you’re happy, you’re going to exude joy and that will affect all of those in your sphere.

Thank you, David Bowie, for all the inspiration and boundary pushing!

Need a Constant Flow of Money? I’ve Got Something For You…

Serenity by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Money, Money, Money

Oh boy, ABBA got it right — it is a rich man’s world!  Financial flow is a sticky and uncomfortable topic.  We all want a constant stream of income to live well, whatever your version of ‘well’ is.

“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.” — Ayn Rand

Personally, I care not for Porches, Gucci handbags or Mansions — I want money to travel and enjoy the finer things in life (haute cuisine, theater and Belgian chocolate are more up my alley). But no matter what you want to do with your money, we all want that financial security at the end of the day because money brings choice — the spice of life!

Even better, we want to earn this money in a capacity that fulfills us. A show of hands from all the people who want to earn cold hard cash doing what they love!

So with that in mind, I knocked up this little visual money affirmation.  I hope it helps to shift your attitude or feelings towards money. Give it a try — you’ve got nothing to lose.

“You will be a failure, until you impress the subconscious with the conviction you are a success. This is done by making an affirmation which ‘clicks.'” — Florence Scovel Shinn

After all, the sky is the limit!  We are the only ones who put restrictions on our earning capacity (ask Richard Branson).

Doubting Thomas?

If you still have reservations as to the power of affirmations, I don’t blame you. I, too, struggled with just repeating phrases over and over in the hope that they would come true.

That kind of parrot fashion manifesting didn’t seem to strike a chord within me until I questioned:

  • all my inner dialogue — I got real about the thoughts I was projecting when I wasn’t in affirmation or meditation mode,
  • my feelings — were they in alignment with what I was saying or was there a tampering emotion emerging that needed to take a back seat? Aka — doing a wealth affirmation but feeling poor, and…
  • what was it I truly wanted — sometimes I would think I wanted something but probing further into my desire, there was an underlying reason for it. In other words — I wanted money only to realize I wanted to go on holiday or buy some new clothes, etc.

What Do Debussy and Quicksilver Have in Common? The Answer May Surprise You!

Debussy Header by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Turning Music into Art and Feeling

To recap on the last video blog (New Concepts: What Does a Bach Masterpiece Look and Feel Like? (Video Included)) CLICK HERE.

This week I tuned into another one of my all-time favourite composers, Claude Debussy.

The feelings that came up after listening to Debussy were:

  • Whimsy,
  • Magic,
  • Playfulness,
  • Fluidity and
  • Fun.

Sampling Tasty Meanings

Other words that describe ‘whimsical’ are fanciful, mischievous, fantastic, excitable, unusual, impulsive, curious, mercurial and ‘quicksilver’ (meaning ‘fluid’ — curious indeed as that is one of the words that came up whilst doodling to the music!), changeable, unpredictable and kaleidoscopic (what an awesome word!).

Don’t you just love the tone and feel of those words?

It tends to transport one to childhood — those days spent in the sun, exploring the garden and being in awe over the smallest ant to the splendiferous veins of a leaf.

It’s little wonder that the drawing that transpired whilst listening to Debussy was a tree and garden (the whole start to finish process video is below).

The Importance of Play

subcribe buttonThe overall effect I got from the enchanting sounds of Debussy was expressing the fun aspect of the self — the inner child.

How can we tap into our neglected mini me?

Try incorporate more:

  • Time in nature — go for walks, swim in streams, run barefoot in the sand, hike, climb mountains, get creative in the garden.
  • Be playful — dance like no-ones watching, play board-games, build sandcastles on the beach or mud-pies in the garden after a good downfall! Get your hands dirty and put being an adult on the back-burner.
  • Laugh more — have a good belly wobble as often as you can EVERY day.
  • Be creative — make things, experiment, colour in, let the inner artiste loose!
  • Be curious — don’t think you know everything. Study new things, take courses, try more classes. Never give up on the wonder of the world.
  • Listen to Debussy! — apparently he helps with drawing out all of the above! 😉

Now it’s time to sit back and watch Debussy transform into art.

Channeling Music into Emotive Art

Before I launch into my Bach revelation, I want to give you a little bit of background about where I’m coming from: I embarked on an auditory and visual journey in 2012. I decided to try to combine my love for music with art and subliminally paint to inspiring composers/musicians to see what would emerge onto my canvas.

Related article: 3 Ways to Tap Into the Matrix of All Possibility

I wanted to explore this realm of sound and discover why some of us are drawn to certain types of music.

I’d enter a meditative state — trying to blank out my mind with no preconceived ideas — put on the music and let it rip! What transpired since then has morphed into one of the most exciting, mind-bending trips of my life — my Rock Art Series!

You can take a peek at that HERE (each painting in the series — so far — has a start to finish photographic journal along with a written account of the emotions that arose whilst listening and painting to the music).

In a nutshell, the Rock Art Series was a project I started to probe the bands and musicians who made a huge impact on me — even from childhood. I started off my early life in a rock band as a bass guitarist and was hugely influenced by 70’s rock and the 90’s grunge period. But why?

  • Why was I drawn to their music?
  • Was there more to their music that met the ear?
  • Why did it seem to resonate with me and a handful of peeps but did not seem to impress others?

I set out to do 10 paintings (one for every band/artist). I am currently on painting no. 9 and am still as captivated by this process as the day I started the first painting.

Now, I want to take it a step further…

Air on a Heart (G) String

I want to mine the sacred sound field of classical music. There must be a plethora of hidden meanings and deeper understandings waiting to be excavated in just this one specific genre.

I started this new project off to ‘Air on a G String‘ by Bach. It was the first piece that sprang to mind as it literally creeps into my heart and starts tugging on my tear strings!

What a Feeling!

Below, you will find a video where I talk about what came up for me in this classical masterpiece AND I whip out my whiteboard and draw for you — live — to the music (okay, I’ve sped it up a little cause it took me almost an hour to complete and I thought you wouldn’t want to sit through that whole process! It’s now a neat and tidy 1:30 minutes…very palatable, darling) 😉

I have posted the end result picture beneath the video for you to download and splash with your creative genius — so dust off those coloring in pencils, crayons and pens (or just go and steal them from your kids room) and let that inner child out to play! Pop on some Bach and see what emotions arise in you (don’t forget to leave your comments in the box below).

Just to give you a little teaser, the key words/emotions that came up were:

  • Remembrance
  • Divine connection
  • Divine Flow
  • We are all connected
  • Sorrow of seeming ‘separation’
  • Joy — ‘all is well’

But before I give the entire game away, let’s take a look at the video:

Here’s the picture for you to download and color in (and if you haven’t heard of color therapy yet, read this: Colour Therapy: Taking on Modern Day Stress the Creative Way):

3 Ways to Tap Into the Matrix of All Possibility

Dreaming Collage by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration. I have not penetrated into the secrets of this core, but I know that it exists.”
Nikola Tesla

I came across the above quote on my Facebook feed this morning. It was a well-timed synchronicity as it’s a concept I’ve been mulling over the past few days.

Related article: Why Synchronicity Can Change Your Life

My ruminating was about music and the impact it has on our lives. Many musicians claim that they literally pluck songs out of the ether. I know this to be true as my husband is a musician and some of his greatest songs — he told me — were ‘given’ to him by, what Gregg Braden referred to as, the ‘Divine Matrix‘ (in his book of the same title).

The Cosmic Menu

Ideas, music, inventions, art — all these things have been known to come to creatives whilst meditating, dreaming or daydreaming. 3 really important ways of tapping into this field of potentiality is to:

  1. Meditate — surrender all thinking and let your mind take a break. See what comes up in the space between your thoughts (hint: that’s where the magic lies!).
  2. Daydream — children do it all the time and they have some pretty inventive ideas (and the most fun too)! Get into the habit of letting yourself daydream every day. Let your mind wander and see what emerges.
  3. Dream Journaling — try to make a habit of writing down your nightly sojourns in the outer realms — there could be a treasure trove of insights in there for you if you train yourself to remember your dreams. You can even declare/ask that you want to have direction/inspiration in your dreams before you turn in for the night.

Original Rehash

Tapping into the ‘matrix’ in this way also begs the question: Is anything ever original? Yes and no.

Matrix Icon

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 😀

If everything is in the ‘ether’ already (or the Mind of God or whatever other phrase rocks your boat) then nothing is original but what is original is you and your take on it.

You’re a ‘one of a kind’ — as unique as your fingerprints. So when the ‘quantum muse in the sky’ selects you to manifest a creative package, you will channel the information through your unique experiences/soul/spirit and give the world a truly unoriginal original 🙂

Of course, there are many musicians (or people who call themselves such) who channel nothing of the sort. This goes for any genre really — there are a few artistic duds coming directly from the ego and being controlled by the head not the heart.

“Music isn’t something to think about, at least initially. Eventually it’s got to cover the spectrum, but especially with rock ‘n’ roll, first it has to touch you somewhere else. It could be the groin; it could be the heart; it could be the guts; it could be the toes. It’ll get to the brain eventually. The last thing I’m thinking about is the brain. You do enough thinking about everything else.”Keith Richards in an interview about songwriting

7 Ways You Can Conquer Stress

Stewing in Your Juices

I’m normally quite a chilled person. Nothing phases me. Until…

  • I take on too much work
  • I get into my ‘yes’ mode and make arrangements and dates that clog my diary
  • I volunteer my services willy-nilly
  • My housework starts to mount
  • My ‘to do’ list grows around the garden (especially as I’m trying to do the whole sustainability thing)
  • I have awesome ideas but have to implement them (adding to the head clutter and time/schedule disaster)

I’m sure you can probably relate to most of the above. Then what happens is that chilled out person who thought they could take on the world in a heart beat starts to panic.

Related article: Feeling Stressed? 10 Natural Alternatives To Prescription Anti-Anxiety Drugs

The Signs of a Meltdown

The walls of my diary close in and anxiety starts to rear its ugly head.

  • Panic attacks
  • Sweaty palms
  • Emotional outbursts (usually involving tears)
  • Temper whirlwinds
  • Depression
  • Feeling defeated and impotent
  • Losing it over the smallest things

We can experience the above on a smaller or larger scale, depending on the level of anxiety and what looms ahead.

Okay, so what can be done?

Anxiety Be Gone!

Well, I’m trying to give myself a well-deserved pep talk here ’cause I suddenly realized the other day that I was slipping off the cliff of the ‘work’ I had piled up.

Amid my darkest moment, I came to the conclusion that it was going to be done whether I fretted about it or not. And what couldn’t be done was just not going to be done. It’s really quite simple.

So, on a practical level, try to:

  1. Get what’s in your head down onto paper (this works a treat!)
  2. Now you can make a priority list
  3. Schedule your time wisely and you’ll find you can fit a lot into your day
  4. Don’t stress about how much you’ve got to do by getting tangled up in the future tasks — concentrate on the task at hand
  5. Read no. 4 again.
  6. Yip…read no. 4 and 5 again!
  7. As Yoda said, ‘Do or do not’ — in this context, do what you must do and stop whinging about it. Have you ever stopped to think how much time we waste worrying or bitching about what we have to do instead of doing it?
How to handle stress

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 🙂

Example: I have a mountain of clothes to pack away. Every morning I get up and look at this mountain and feel despair. It affects me greatly. I don’t like a messy bedroom — that’s where I’m supposed to go to relax, not stare at a heap of rags.

What not to do: Whine about the job. Look at the heap in deflated impotence. Complain about how much other stuff you have to do. Sit and have a cup of coffee and catch up on your Facebook feed. Or, in my case, write a blog about it, whilst — out of the corner of my eye — I can see into my bedroom and the washing pile is staring happily back at me.

Solution: Do it. A 5 minute rant could have you half way done by now. You can have that cuppa AND pack the washing away (what a novel idea!).

There is actually plenty of time in a day when you use it wisely. The above example is small fish compared to some of the whoppers we have to face in life and prepare for. However, inevitably, we are remarkable creatures with an ability to squeeze a lot into our lives when our minds are prepared well enough.

Let’s go back to no. 4, 5 and 6 of the tips list. This tip has helped me exponentially over the past few days. I’m a Virgo and a control freak. When my schedule starts mounting up and I feel like I’m losing control — it’s a blood bath! I have the tendency of looking ahead at what I have to do tomorrow, the next day and so on into infinity. This makes matters worse.

All we have to concentrate on is what lays before us today. You can deal with tomorrow, well, tomorrow! If it’s really a pickle, then set aside 10-15 minutes of today to work out a game-plan for tomorrow so you can at least get some sleep.

If there is ever something to remember about anxiety it’s this: one step at a time! You’re amazing and you’ll do it all, only if you tackle what’s in front of you now. As my dear mother used to say, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’.

And now for something completely different…a little humour to liven up your stress monster:

3 Valuable Understandings to Help You Kick Fear Addiction

Dangerous Love by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt

Creeping in Through the Cracks

Fear is a mighty strong emotion. It could be said to be the driving force behind our collective impotence.

Why does it have so much force in our lives?

It get’s flung at us constantly via the media — TV, movies, adverts, the general public, etc.

And when we’re not ‘out in the world’ overhearing all the crime statistics and getting fed bad news from people on the street, we rush home to fall into the escapism of our daily Facebook feed because there’s nothing there to be fearful of, right?

Wrong! We get a slipstream of everything that’s messed up in the world (barring, of course, those sweet little kitty meme’s and quirky quote feeds — although even those are starting to take their toll on social media addicts).

One has even come to fear the next ‘Be Like Bob’ post or cradle in terror at the thought of another cat in a pot photo. All jokes aside…

Getting Down and Dirty

We need to take responsibility for what we give our attention to and for how we allow, yes allow, the media to manipulate our emotions and pervade the airwaves with such repugnant negativity.

We are the ones giving credence to and creating our own fears — we can literally asphyxiate ourselves with things to fret or find fear about.

Every time you give into fear you feed negativity and give it more power. Fear is a choice, like it or not.

Related article: How To Deal With Your Fear of the Unknown

The Different Types of Fear

There are, of course, many different types of fear but they are all grounded in the act of giving your power away.

When we come up against fear, we are presented with a chance to be aware, brave and face up to it.  Get to the nitty-gritty and uncover the truth about why we are so afraid or uncomfortable (i.e. the fear of heights/snakes/natural disasters/terrorism/clowns/Uncle Sam/Aunt Betty/’fill in the blank’).

When we mine ourselves for the ‘why’s’ and ‘what-have-you’s’ of our own fears, we can face them and move through them.

If there is nothing we can do but send our love, compassion, empathy or prayers to a fearful situation, then do that! Stop giving rise to a tidal wave of negative emotions.

Either do something about your fear (fight or flight), make an effort to get to the bottom of why you feel a certain way (be it through meditation, inner-examination, therapy, etc) or stop thinking about it — turn your thoughts around!

What you think about you bring about — your attention, good or bad — always feeds the probability giving it more gusto. So stop gusting away at those fearful ruminations!

Incapacitating Fear

In order to work fear back into the light, we need to find its polar opposite — LOVE.  When you inject love into fear it evaporates — it has no stronghold in the presence of love.

But how does one start projecting love when ones knees are knocking?

Well, let’s address what is called heart-centered living — I’m sure you’ve all probably heard that word by now.  People are throwing it about a lot these days (including me — guilty as charged!). As airy-fairy and lace-clad as heart-centered living may seem — there is a nugget of gold in the finding!

Related article: How to Use Your Heart Wisdom

Quickening the Heart

When you work through your heart, based primarily upon how you are feeling about something (as opposed to working through your mind and how you think about something), you are guided by a more truthful resonance of picking up subtle nuances from your surroundings rather than being directed by what reason dictates.

So even though we are in need of our minds and pensiveness, we have been dominated by left-brain thinking for centuries.  A shift is occurring, not to totally disregard our thoughts but to channel through the heart and then process through the mind.  In other words, not just to go straight to the head and bypass our hearts or how we are feeling intuitively.

Rationality can be useful but it has, in some cases, left our instinctive abilities to wither in its stoic presence.  Sometimes our ‘logic’ has actually hindered our bliss. This could be because ‘society dictates otherwise’ or ‘the norm is to be…’  — well, be careful of whose ‘norm’ you are conceding to.

It’s that age old conflict between science and spirituality (left-brain versus right-brain) — the solution to which is using both in balance.

Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.” — Dorothy Thompson

3 Key factors to transmute fear are remembering to:

1. Spend Your Emotions Wisely

Don’t buy into fear.  Think of all the things you have feared in the past — did any of those worries come true?  If yes, did you survive it?  I take it you did if you are reading this.  The energy or vibration of fear draws that which you worry about into your life.  Have you ever been with someone who is not afraid of dogs but you are.  When a dog comes running at you both, it goes for you, my sweaty-palmed friend, not your companion! Why?  Animals, as you probably know, can sense fear — so can the universe and the universe is impartial.  It acquiesces to what it thinks you desire via your frequency output.  If your emotions are dialed into fear, expect life to become frightening.  The only thing you should fear is fear itself (thanks, President Roosevelt!).

2. Know That Love Conquers All

Get used to being tuned into your feelings and steering them to safer shores.  When you are in fear, inject some love into your aura by thinking of someone you love, your favorite pet, the infectious chuckle of your child or grandchild or a blissful memory. Change your vibration! This is how you get to expand on the feeling of love in the face of fear.  Show fear that you have too much love in your heart.  Fear is a mental construct in the absence of love.  Trust your instincts and obey your heart. Send love and compassion to all those who suffer or who are in situations you fear to be in. Even send love to the perpetrators of heinous crimes. Why? Because you won’t solve hate by chucking more venom at a situation. When you can send love to the victims and perpetrators alike, you are diffusing the energy and making a space for healing and learning to occur. The perpetrators of violent crimes will not ‘get better’ with negativity, hateful thoughts or jail sentences (that is not to say that they shouldn’t have to ‘pay’ for their crimes — we all have to face the music for our actions) but, in sending love and compassion, there may be a glimmer of hope that they will have a true awakening to spirit and show remorse or have a change of heart.

3. Take Control

Short, sweet and to the point.  If you want to be self-empowered then the first things you need are awareness and the ability to take responsibility for your actions.  These two fundamental principles are gateways for you to realize your inherent potential.  You are a co-creator, take responsibility for that and take control from this point onwards.

Rock Art OriginalsI started the Rock Art Series back in July of 2012. I thought it’d take me no longer than a year to complete.

How wrong I was!

I am still busy with the 10 paintings I set out to create. You can read the WHOLE enticing, dramatic and emotionally provocative story HERE.

I was going to wait until I painted the last one (Queen) before I released all the originals for sale.

What changed my mind?

I’ve been getting SO many requests for the prices of the originals of these pieces that I just decided to bite the bullet and set them free into the wild unknown.

I’ve grown very attached to many of them as they are dotted all over my house — from flanking my bed to gracing my hubby’s music studio. It’s time for me to detach and let someone else enjoy the depths of these works, in the flesh.

So without further ado…here they are all laid out for you to see what they’d look like in a room and to scale (click on pic’s to take you to the gallery where you can check out the prices/make an offer/buy a print at SaatchiOnline):

Let’s Talk About Green Stuff — It May Not Be What You Think!

Keepers of the Wood

Green is the New Black

When I say ‘let’s talk about the green stuff?’ what does your mind spring to?

  • money? Show me the bunce?
  • marijuana? Totally far out dude…
  • sustainable living — doing your reduced carbon footprint kind-of-thang, all cool and hippy like? Or
  • jealousy? The green-eyed, envy monster awaiting in each of us like Mr Hyde or our own personal Hulk.

Well, cast aside all the above notions because I want to talk about pure green.

Going for Gold

I remember an old British TV comedy series called Blackadder. One character, Lord Percy, decides to try his hand at alchemy (you know, making gold out of base metal). He manages to fashion something he called ‘pure green’. Lord Blackadder — who was broke and rather counting on Percy’s success — was utterly disappointed when, after being told by Percy that he was triumphant in his pursuit, his eyes fell on the green stone and not a nugget of gold.

My written reenactment has not done the actual comedy moment any good, I fear, but the point I’m trying to make is we do have something in our world that is better than gold. And, as Lord Percy discovered inadvertently, it is green.

The colour of nature.

Why is Green So Important?

Why do you feel more relaxed in a park? Or on top of a mountain? Or lying under a tree on a bed of green grass? Why does the sight of green rolling hills peek every poet and artists interest? Why are we drawn to green? Would it be as effective if it was red? Doubt it. Nature knows what she’s doing and here’s why:

The colour green is associated with:

  • Balance

It is the center colour of the spectrum (look up a rainbow and see for yourself!) — being in perfect balance even there! It is associated with abundance (lack of famine), water and everything plentiful on a primitive level.

The colour psychologically effects us all.

It is also a hue that is connected to:

  • positivity,
  • harmony,
  • refreshment,
  • universal love (it is the colour of our heart chakra),
  • rest and restoration,
  • reassurance and
  • peace.

Say NO to the Brain Fog!

Going Green

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it! 🙂

Most of us are subject to sitting behind a computer screen or desk getting very little to no time in nature. Electronic devices and the addiction to social media is clogging our airwaves (both physically and mentally).

This leads to brain fog, stress, anxiety and a host of other things.

We are being disconnecting from our very source — nature and the balance, peace and harmony it brings.

Related article: 8 Natural Stress Relievers For More Peace & Calm

There is light at the end of the tunnel though because just spending 15 minutes out in nature will make a difference to your mind, body and soul. Obviously, the more time you spend in nature the better it is.

Try it and see for yourself. If you’re feeling stressed out, go sit under a tree or take a walk in a park — or even just stare out at some treetops (best done outdoors though for the fresh air effect). Focus your gaze upon the green you see, try to put your attention on how you feel when you take it all in. Can you feel a drop in tension within your body?

The green we find in nature is meant to be our own personal therapy — go out and use it wisely whenever you see a gap!

Gaia by Cherie Roe Dirksen

We Just Can’t Help It!

It’s January 2016 and it’s that time of year when most of us are all revved up and ready for change — we, the hopefuls, dream of stepping up our game in the new months that are about to unfold. It’s all quite exciting.

Then a few weeks into the new year — well, you know the story — some of us get disillusioned and stumble off that rickety bandwagon. Our hopes, dreams and willpower get kicked to the curb and we continue with the same old same old wondering why every year feels like a sequel to Groundhog Day.

Towards the end of last year, I overheard some folks complaining about people who make new years resolutions and all that ‘blah blah blah’…then I saw a quote on Facebook that made me laugh. I’m paraphrasing here but it went something like, ‘I’m not making any new years resolutions ’cause, let’s face it, who likes a skinny, rich woman?’

I even tried to stay away from making resolutions this year but I just couldn’t resist the pull…

Getting Real…For the Umpteenth Time!

I’m no stranger to the Law of Attraction and positive thinking and I’ve applied them to most sections of my life with great success. However, I also have some areas of my life that I’ve applied them too with little or sporadic success.

What I mean by this is that I can achieve something one month but can’t pull it off the next – it wavers (in this specific arena) and then I begin to doubt myself. And I know I’m not the only one experiencing this.

The last months of 2015 had me catching a huge wake up call.

Positive thinking is fantabulosis. But positive feeling is the vooma that lights that ignition! Some of you have probably heard of this already. I had. A gazillion times before as a matter of fact. I know this and yet I was still deluding myself and avoiding how I was truly feeling about the things I was trying to create.

Introspection and Facing a Hard Reality

My ‘a-ha’ moments with regards to manifesting finances come and go and never seem to ‘stick’. I have huge epiphanies, things go great and then I trip and fall into a rut.

I took a very serious look at my manifesting behaviors over this past year and was quite shocked to see that I was sliding down a slippery slope of limited thinking — falling back into an abyss of past experience that was dictating my future.

So I hopped to it and created a new vision board for myself in December. When I stepped back to look at it it made my eyes hurt. It was all over the place! It was so helter-skelter that I felt like crying. Why? It was such a huge reflection of what was going on in my head.

My brains and ambitions at the end of 2015 felt like watery, scrambled eggs.

Cracking the Shell

I took a long, hard, penetrating look at my life and thoughts and realized that all the positive thinking in the world couldn’t help me if I felt so ‘out of control’ on the inside.

I do positively affirm a lot of things when I wake up and even during the day. I try to steer my thoughts to positive outcomes but I was lacking in one thing. I wasn’t checking in with myself to see if I was truly feeling positive about my situation.

I got real and figured out that even though I have set goals, vision boards, do affirmations — the whole toot — I was not always feeling the outcome. There was still a little lack in my gut (your solar plexus doesn’t lie!). A little twinge to say, ‘you might not (fill in the blank)’.

That made me think further.

How did I feel about manifesting enough money for next months bills?

Exhausted. My brain was jet-lagged. I hadn’t really accomplished what I wanted to this year and I felt like I didn’t even know what I wanted for next year. It felt overwhelming and it was reflecting in my vision board

Their is No Space For Doubt

One think you need to know...

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 😀

I set to work trying to simplify my board. I got it down to the top 10 things I wanted this year. I stood back this time and felt relief wash over me. I could feel the shift within.

It was as though all the straggling thoughts had been filed neatly for me to gaze upon and the feeling was being upgraded.

I had been too chaotic in my thoughts and it was manifesting in my life through my feelings of being out of control. I was even trying to control how I manifested things. My new board reflected what I wanted and I decided to relinquish how I was going to get it.

Within 2 days of me completing the new and upgraded vision for 2016, I manifested one of the things on that board. It involved me bartering one of my paintings for it but, low and behold, the damn thing was working!

Within a week, I had manifested another thing on my board.

What changed?

I not only do my affirmations every day now but I make myself feel what it’s like to be on that holiday in Italy, sipping red wine and I can feel the wind zipping through my hair as I cycle down the main road on my new mountain bike.

Before I thought I had to concentrate on manifesting money to be able to buy things and experiences but I know now that the universe works in mysterious ways.

I’ve had people give me things that I thought I’d have to buy or spontaneously treat me to dinner or even trade with me for mutually beneficial gain. It’s opened my eyes up to new ways of manifesting and has given me a new hope that this year is going to be epic.

All I have to do is feel it. I hope you get to feel your way to all the things you dream about doing and having!

Letting go of our past isn’t easy — no-one said it was. No matter if you are grieving a physical loss or an emotional wound — we all have ‘baggage’. Our job is to unpack it.

You don’t want to go the rest of your life carrying a backpack, do you? Not only will it give you back ache but it will also slow you down, tire you out and rob you of your present joy.

Baggage Was Never a Forever Thing

Your past was never meant to be carried as a burden. What happened to you — no matter what it was — all had a soul teaching for you to move through. Your job is to get the lesson.

If you’ve experienced abuse — perhaps your discovery is that you found your strength to move on or  your power to forgive. If you’ve experienced death — maybe your pearl of wisdom came in the shape and form of learning to let go in love or to find peace in vulnerability.

These are merely suggestions as we all have vastly different reasons for going through certain life experiences.

Every time I look back at the tougher times of my life, I can see there was always an illuminating teaching for me. You can very rarely feel it when you’re in it. It takes time to work through grief and heartache — which is perfectly natural and everyone’s period of mourning is different — just don’t get lost in the past.

A Personal Metaphor For Loss

In 2002 my husband and I moved to the UK and stayed there for 3  years. It was a thrilling experience but I did miss my homeland.

After a year of being there, I lost my father. It was such a devastating experience and I had to catch an emergency flight back to South Africa to help my mother with the necessaries.

When I flew back to the UK I began to shop. I bought everything and anything — it was pure compulsive behaviour. And to make matters worse, I shipped it all back to my mother to keep for me for when I returned, which she did.

I spent more posting the boxes of ‘stuff’ back than I paid for the items…true madness.

When I returned home for good, my mother led me to her garage where all these boxes were stacked to the ceiling. I couldn’t believe how much I’d sent (and spent)!

I went through all the treasures I had sent myself to find it was all…well, for want of a better word…crap!

I didn’t need it and ended up giving most of it away.

The Diamond in the Tale

What I did learn, in hindsight, was that I was filling a void left by my father’s death — shopping was my coping mechanism.

I could have kept the boxes but I knew that would have been holding on to the past and those boxes would turn out to be made of cement, holding me back and filling space I needed for my future.

It was the most freeing thing to do when I gave all that junk away. It even turned out to make two very special ladies extremely happy!

As I was clearing out the boxes from the garage, two Xhosa ladies came walking up the road selling beautiful hand-made baskets.

They saw some of the things from my boxes and asked if I would consider trading with them. I told them they could have the stuff but they insisted on giving me two awesome baskets. They literally danced and sang in joy back down the street with boxes piled on top of their heads.

I still have those baskets and every time I look at them I am reminded of this lesson with a smile on my face.

There is gold to be mined in our experiences — good or bad. Your job is to find out what your soul wanted to take from the experience. Then leave that bag, don’t check it in at your next stop. Live lighter.

The Law of Giving and Receiving

“Giving opens the way for receiving.” — Florence Scovel Shinn

Deepak Chopra wrote a book that changed my life forever.

I stumbled upon it very early on in my quest for spiritual truth — it’s called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.

Now I know most of you have probably read it or heard of it (if you haven’t yet put eyeballs to paper/kindle yet I strongly urge you to do so) but I wanted to briefly recap on Law no. 2, seeing it is the season of giving and receiving.

Deepak states that the flow of life is the harmony of interaction between all elements and forces that make up the field of existence. Because our mind and body are in constant flux (as is the universe), stopping the circulation of vital energy would be tantamount to stopping the flowing of our blood.

No blood flow = blood clot.

His conclusion was that in order to keep this vital chi force from stagnating we must learn to give and receive. So whatever you are wanting to manifest in life — be it good company, money, affluence, love, joy, etc — that is what we must give out into the world.

Easier Said Than Done?

A lot of people have no problem giving — it is the receiving part that most shudder at.

Perhaps we were taught that receiving was impolite and we should graciously decline offerings of any sort. Or,  maybe some think that if someone is trying to give us something it appears that we are lacking in some way. Therefore we shun the gift so as not to look needy or ‘down and out’.

This is an ego trap.

When you block someone from giving, you are stopping that vital energetic exchange from circulating. How would you feel if your gifts weren’t received?

It gives most of us great joy to be able to give, so why stop that joy from others? Allow other people to give to you or you may be hampering their ability to be in the universal flow.

Don’t be blood-clotting anybody, you hear?!

How Do I Start Today to Bring the Flow into My Life?

According to the book (7 Spiritual Laws of Success), when you come into contact with anyone, you give them something. This doesn’t have to be material things, it could be a blessing, a flower, a sincere compliment, etc. You’ll find that sometimes the most powerful gestures of giving are non-material (you can occasionally throw in something of a material nature too though).

Putting It to the Test

I’d like to demonstrate this with a recent experience of mine. I had my 9 year old niece and nephew (they’re twins) come stay with us for a couple of days. We live out in the country, so there are no such things as malls or cinemas (which these children are accustomed to where they come from).

I decided to devote all the time in those two days to these beautiful children in the form of picnicking at our local waterfall and swimming in the mountain pass to mingling with the community at our village’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and coloring in with them on the dining room table.

All these activities cost little to no money but they had my attention and we had a ball! The children kept on saying to me how much they loved being in nature and were taken aback at the beauty of the countryside and all the things it had to offer.

I could see they were genuinely happy and delighted in jumping off rocks into mountains streams and walking along babbling brooks to follow the trails of our magnificent red and blue dragonflies.

It dawned on me in that moment that giving your attention and new experiences to others can be more impactful than a trip to see the latest movie or a burger and milkshake at the local diner.

In a Roasted Nutshell…

Don’t underestimate the power of giving as you will receive it back ten fold! Just keep that flow going and be aware every time you feel you want to decline a gift or gesture — try remember to allow for others to give as well.

Love vs Fear: Which One Are You Going To Let Win?

HeartShaped Love by Cherie Roe Dirksen

No More Unconscious Creating

We are now firmly rooted in a new consciousness on Earth. As awesome as boldly going where no man has gone before is, we still have a major topic we need to address – fear.

In the absence of love we are left with fear. It’s as simple as: no light = dark.

When we no longer trust our instincts we give in to fear.  You can see fear as an illusion and only becomes a perceived reality when you let it become real for you.

Illusion versus Perceived Reality

To illustrate this point, lets take the illusory nature of assumption (for more about assumption, CLICK HERE).

When you assume something  you do not possess all the facts or truth of the matter at hand.  When you form an idea of what is happening you are assuming (which is an illusory concept).

Then when your assumption has rooted itself in your psyche as the truth, you give it form and this can lead either to the creation of your assumption or the suffering of your ego based on the assumption.  And all this was made possible through an illusion.

“When you worry about something you are future-projecting a negative outcome. “

Fear works in much the same way.  Worry is a form of fear that most of us are altogether too familiar with.  When you worry about something you are future-projecting a negative outcome.

Related article: Love Is Stronger than Fear: 6 Ways Americans Are Defying Islamaphobia

Sometimes the situations we worry about never come to pass.  Worry is an illusion. As the famous saying goes, worry only robs you of your present joy.

When I talk about the NOW or present moment awareness, I am referring to the point of acceptance that one arrives at when there is an absence of fear.  There are many roads that take you to fear such as worry, anxiety, stress, panic, anger, resentment, revenge, etc but they all are rooted in fear.

So, succinctly, fear is the root on the scale of negativity.  The opposite of fear would be love.

Good Ol’ Gushy Love

The emotions that lead you to love are joy, happiness, elation, bliss, mirth, laughter, etc and these are all rooted in love.  The ultimate root on the scale of positivity.  The light and dark aspects of existence.

Without either of these perspectives we would live a very dull life.  We need a basis of comparison, in other words, how would you know not to put your hand in the fire if you had never been burnt.

How would you know just how perfect your body felt if you hadn’t had that painful full-body, extra strength Thai sports massage?

“If you choose to let fear take a back seat you will see the world open up to you in ways you never imagined.”

We need comparisons to ascertain what we do want.

Fear is generally not wanted but it certainly gains momentum — it’s a tricky little blighter.  The thing is, and always will be, are you aware?

When you can become aware of your fears you can deal with them.  If you are playing the victim role, then perhaps you are quite content to be in a cocoon of misery – the choice remain yours.

  • Do you want this?
  • Is there a better way?

There is always choice and we are always co-creating our lives.  If you choose to let fear take a back seat you will see the world open up to you in ways you never imagined.

When you can master how you spend your energy and who you spend it on, you won’t allow yourself to be sucked into the various dramas that people create.  When you no longer fear living, you will begin to truly live in a way that embraces every moment.

Be Free

True freedom can only be found on the path that leads to the root of love — the knowing that all is well and the trusting that the universe is organized and you are a part of that.

“We all need to have our eyes wide open to what we are manifesting and creating on a day-to-day, if not minute-to-minute, basis. “

Look out into the universe.  Can you see how there is structure in everything out there?  There is the cycle of life, death and even a bit of chaos thrown in-between but there always seems to be an order and organization to the universe itself.

Planets aren’t shaped like bananas or cubes, they are round (or at least they were when I wrote this).  Most of them are in orbit around a sun.

There are, of course, some free-for-alls that do not have a sun to orbit and drift through space but what a wonderful metaphor for how some of us feel!  You know, the macrocosm reflecting the microcosm and vice versa.

Bashing Fear on the Nose

Fear is something that we all deal with daily.  No matter what label you put on the emotion – if it is negative or coming from a lower vibration, it boils down to fear.  We now need to march straight up to it and bash it on the nose.

“Everything you experience is a manifestation of your thought.”

There is no more time for unconscious creating in this world.

Related article: Consciousness Creates Reality: New Thoughts = New Action = New Life

We all need to have our eyes wide open to what we are manifesting and creating on a day-to-day, if not minute-to-minute, basis.

Everything you experience is a manifestation of your thought.  Everything from the bird in the tree that is singing to the cup of coffee that sits next to you.

Most people just think about manifestations as being on the bigger scale.  ‘Oh, I know I manifested that really needy relationship’ or ‘Yes, I acknowledge that I my anger could have caused the accident’ but do we really consider even the smallest of creations.  If not, you should – because there is no chance in our world – everything is co-created and manifested through collective or individual consciousness.

Hard pill to swallow?  Good!  Nothing worth knowing comes to you on a silver platter.

Fear not, all is well.

3 Tips on How to Stay Relatively Calm…Especially Over the Festive Season!

Christmas Fireworks!

It’s the season to be jolly — dust off the mistletoe and pucker up for that long line of friends and family just waiting to be welcomed into your house for another round of yearly festivities.

“Christmas is a time when you get homesick, even when you’re home.”
– Carol Nelson

However, there is a darker side to the holidays (ho ho….humbug).

Being within close proximity to certain friends and family members over vast periods of celebratory time can lead to some festering issues, mounting stress and hair-raising quibbles.

Invariably, some wild words could get slung about the Christmas dining table!

We’ve all probably experienced our fair share of family squabbling during holiday gatherings but how can you ride out the storm without having a huge blow-out before you’ve even got to sample that hot, steamy Christmas pudding?

Secret Santa’s Little Helper List

“A Christmas miracle is when your family doesn’t get into a single argument all day.”
– Melanie White

Remaining calm and peaceful at family reunions is no small feat — it requires a lot of awareness, internal reflection and non-reaction.

The button-pushers will always try to work their Christmas magic but you’re going to have a Santa sack full of antidotes. Below you’ll find zap-it-in-the-butt recipes to counteract disaster:

  1. Calm Christmas

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 🙂

Reign (deer) It In — if someone is working on your last nerve ask yourself if you really need to react and cause a potential argument. Can you simply smile and walk away? See if you can be the still presence and avoid a hot chestnut from slipping down your trunks. It’s a great test to be non-reactive — can you pour ice over the coals this Christmas? Sometimes, when I feel overwhelmed by chaotic vibes I go and take 5 in the bathroom — just sit and take 3 long deep breaths and restore your essential energy. Walking away and creating space or a break in a quarrel can be the very thing needed to diffuse it.

  2. Root (beer) Yourself — ground yourself wherever possible. Take deep breaths and root yourself into the present moment. When you are quiet, calm and centered, you move into the space of still presence where you can become the observer and this can be a very illuminating place to be. You might even get some clarity on certain behavioral patterns in others which may lead to a better understanding. When we are being seduced to the dark side of arguments it’s better to keep shtum unless you have something incredibly significant to say — otherwise, you will only be adding fuel to the yule logs. Remember that most of what you say — in these heated situations — isn’t being heard because there is too much tumult around and ears tend to close whilst mouths tend to flap. Being the still observer offers you a way to stay in control of your emotions and gauge what needs to be said, done or to identify if this is your cue to take a stroll around the garden or build a snowman.
  3. Spread Good Cheer(s) — we all love our family and friends, but if you find yourself in a situation where you truly cannot contribute anything but loving them unconditionally, then do just that and send them love. Remain calm and balanced and focus on the love you have for them. Build on that and project it towards them. Remove yourself from the room if needs be and then do it in privacy — even if it means locking yourself in that bathroom again for a few minutes to gather/center yourself (your family and friends might wonder if that egg nog is acting as a diuretic but better that then a festive altercation). I guarantee you will have helped them more by doing this then by rising to the bait of drama and argumentative behavior.

Good luck and may the force be with you!

Dangerous Illusions: Why Time Should Be Replaced

Reaching Out by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“I must govern the clock, not be governed by it.” — Golda Meir

Passing the Time

I was listening to a Dolores Cannon lecture yesterday (read more about her extraordinary life and her sad passing HERE), she said some profound things. One, however, really stuck out for me.

Time does not exist.

Yeah, I know that’s nothing new or revelationary but it’s still a hard concept to grapple with for most.

I mean who doesn’t wish for time to simply cease chiming away?

We’d all be youthful (no time, no age!) and less stressed or anxious as we wouldn’t have to scuttle about meeting our daily, hectic schedules. Let’s face it, we’d be able to fit a lot more into our lives without time because we wouldn’t have that sword of Damocles hanging over our head in the form of a ticking pendulum!

Set it to the Clock

On the other hand, time can be a great way to keep appointments. There’s nothing more exasperating than someone arriving late for a date! Time helps us to organize ourselves and to not waste…well…err…other peoples time.

You can also use a timer to boil an egg — another handy way to use ‘time’. The list could go on and I do get that time keeping can be an extraordinary useful tool. However, the emphasis is on tool, not fact.

Time — all our watches and clocks — is nothing more than a tool. There is no clock in the sky.

I know Einstein spoke about time being the 4th dimension and it is scientifically taken as such, however, I find it’s an iffy topic for me simply because it’s still a man-made construct.

Time is still an illusion. The planets, sun, solar system, galaxies and such are all on a course and that course has structure and dependability but ‘time’ isn’t real. Hence why some people still work on different calendars.

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.” — Albert Einstein

But what if everything is all happening at once? I don’t mean to lay into poor Einstein ’cause I think he was brilliant but we do have to question certain things or, at least, rethink what they mean and how much power we give that meaning.

We as human beings, have taken time on too literally or, should I say, linearly. Dolores Cannon went on to say that, in her many case studies, she was told that we are the only planet that observes time. We’re kind of a cosmic joke. Binding ourselves to it’s influence and rigidity.

They say that when we get rid of the concept of time, we will finally be able to travel interstellar! Well on that note, I’m ready to throw my time piece in!!!

Metaphors About Time

We’ve been told that you can liken time to a circle – never ending, never beginning.

Some say time is like a layered cake. You are experiencing your current moment as the top layer but if you cut into the cake you’ll see all the many other layers (points in time or other lifetimes) on top of each other — still there and existing.

I’ve heard great analogies of time being like a DVD. You can watch the story from start to finish and you can skip around the chapters and scenes at any point you wish, which is why some philosophers claim you could — theoretically speaking (although many people have already experienced this in dreams, altered states and in meditation) — visit the past and future.

It all sounds fabulous but my a-ha moment is still to come…

The Penny Drops…

It’s so simple, it’s maddening.

In the lecture I mentioned at the beginning of this article, it was said that we should stop using the word ‘time’ and replace it with ‘event’.

Huh? Is that it?

Yes, but it’s so acutely concise. Instead of referring to points in time, we should refer to them as events. Because time actually doesn’t exist but events do.

Meet the Astral Traveler

Say you can astral travel. You astral travel back in ‘time’ to your 13th birthday party. That party is still happening as an ongoing event — think of time as that layered cake example. You could even speak to yourself in ‘real time’ — in other words you are having a conversation with your pubescent self.

You would probably get back to your present moment and then suddenly remember the conversation you had with this ‘spirit being’ (who was actually you from the future) when you were 13 years old and this event will catch up with you in your present (lol…it’s a mind bender alright!!!).

You have now entered a new timeline from that specific event.

Say the same astral traveler decided to go further back in history to visit Beethoven. He sees this German composer working hard at his grand piano. He takes a peak over Ludwig’s shoulder and notices he’s writing Symphony no. 5!

The astral traveler is actually witnessing ‘history’ which would be Beethoven’s present moment.

This specific event is taking place on the 31st December 1804 and it is still happening today in the layer of that cake.

We’ll Get There — Give it Time…Not!

I think the moment we all agree as a collective to disband time, we will open ourselves up to a higher consciousness experience of life on this planet.

Right this moment, people all around the globe are channeling entities from our past, present and future (some even claim to be us in this future) — and is this so hard to believe?

Can we perhaps even change the past if we wanted to? Rewrite history? Align ourselves with different timelines and change tracks? Have we done this already? I don’t see why not.

You wouldn’t even know if it had been done anyway. For all you know time has been changed and Hitler didn’t win the war (yes, you read right — in the first version of history he could have successfully won WW2 and started his global NWO — we could all be sporting interesting mustaches this Movember on that timeline)!

Time Icon

Did you enjoy this article? Don’t forget to ‘pin’ it 😀

Dolores Cannon speaks of nexus points (in her conversations with Nostradamus) and these are unchangeable events in history. In other words, Hitler is probably a nexus point. Meaning his birth will always be an event (or he will always be born in that point in time) but the many timelines that run from that nexus point are mutable.

Related article: Dolores Cannon – 5D Earth is Here!

It’s time to broaden our minds and throw out what doesn’t serve us anymore. I think time might be on my list, how about you?

I’d like to end off on a humourous note — a witty quote by that Irish comedian, Dylan Moran:

“People will kill you. Over time. They will shave out every last morsel of fun in you with little, harmless sounding phrases that people use every day, like: ‘Be realistic!'”

Get Me OUT Of Purgatory! The Emotions Behind the Nirvana Painting, ‘Cold Burn’

Me (on the left) cross-dressing for my 40th as Kurt Cobain (on the right)

Me (on the left) cross-dressing for my 40th as Kurt Cobain (on the right)

Birth, Death and Everything In Between

I went all out this year for my 40th Birthday and decided to throw a 40 Rock party! Everyone came dressed as one of their favourite music icons from the past 40 years.

I chose Kurt Cobain (yip, that’s me above on the left — the beard was drawn on and not grown! Yes, I know what you’re thinking…I may be 40 but facial hair is still at bay).

All jokes aside though, I warned you in last weeks blog that this emotional reveal wasn’t going to be pretty. You can read (or rather look at the photo’s of the painting process) HERE before I begin to unravel the emotions behind the art.

When I paint these rock art paintings, I scribble what comes up for me on the side of the canvas. Usually it’s quite a detailed list of raw feelings.

This one was different. Only one concept kept coming up.

Cold.

Was it Kurt Cobain Coming Through?

The only word I got whilst painting this was ‘cold’. I did, however, manage to pick up 2 phrases:

  • ‘Want to be warm — fire/sun/warmth’
  • ‘Tired of being cold in the dark — womb’

I started to wonder if I was just connecting with my own subconscious mind listening to Nirvana’s music as In Utero (Nirvana) album cover.jpgthere are a LOT of connotations to the womb — ‘In Utero’, their third and final album cover shows what appears to be an transparent angel with all her bits and bobs showing (left).

Kurt is synonymous with having a fixation with umbilical chords and babies, hence perhaps the feelings of being in the ‘womb’.A nude infant swimming in blue tinted water toward a dollar bill which is attached to a string.

Nevermind their second album! Called, ‘Nevermind’ (right) — where there is a baby swimming in a pool on the cover.

Or was I getting more sinister messages from beyond the veil from Kurt himself?

Not Cool…

If I was, there was another presence or even presences with him.

I felt as if he didn’t want to be where he was and he didn’t want to be with these entities either.

Cold Burn Nirvana by Cherie Roe Dirksen LRThe painting started getting twistier and turnier. The ‘dark’ angel that finally started taking shape half way through the painting has kind of an ominous vibe.

The water on top of the painting feels cold and murky, almost as if someone is ‘drowning’ in their emotion.

I was really freaked out when I started ripping up pieces of paper from a charcoal packet I had (conveniently) on my studio floor that said ‘fire’ and ‘brand’ (which is Afrikaans for fire).

What was truly weird was right at the end when I picked up a box of matches and just started striking them randomly and sticking them to the painting. A first for me!

It seemed as if someone was trying desperately to get warm.

Conclusions Leave Me Wanting

Cold Burn Pinterest IconThis painting did bother me on many levels.

I didn’t get an easy feeling painting it. I feared that perhaps Kurt’s soul is stuck in Purgatory or whatever you want to call a type of limbo.

I definitely felt presences that weren’t him but felt like they were holding him there, which wasn’t cool.

I have sat with this painting for over 2 months before I revealed it last week. I really wanted to get answers.

Alas, I have none at the moment. All I can do is pray that this soul gets out and finds the light it is craving soon.

  • What are your thoughts on this?
  • Did you pick up on anything looking at the painting or reading this?

Next Rock Art Painting…

Next to undergo easel/paint surgery is the music of Brit trailblazer, David Bowie.

Have you seen all 8 paintings in the Rock Art Series so far? You can recap on them and their blogs HERE.

It’s been a while since I finished the latest edition to my rock art series (if you don’t know what this is, please take a look at this tantalizing, musical artscape journey so far by clicking HERE: pictures, blogs, line up — the whole toot!).

Why has it taken me so long to reveal? God only knows.

All I can tell you is that this one was unusual and what came up was totally different to all my previous paintings in this series.

But enough banter — next week I’ll fill you in on the emotional journey (what I felt and what came up when I was painting this). It’s got me baffled but I think I’m ready to share it now.

Cold Burn is Born!

For now, let me introduce you to ‘Cold Burn’. This was painted to the music of those grunge trailblazers, Nirvana. Below is the start to finish photographic painting process.

How to Lose Friends and Generally Alienate People

Boat on a Lake

Green-Eyed Monsters Are Not Purely Sci-Fi

Allow me to ignite this article with a bang-on quote by Robert A. Heinlein:

“A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity.”

Let’s just bask in that wisdom for a second. Aaah…can’t you just feel the truth of that seeping into your bones?

Common Jealousy — Get Yourself a Shovel!

Boy meets girl, boy goes out with girl, boy sees girl getting other boy attention and *bang* — the green-eyed monster rears its ugly, nobbled head.

Boy becomes possessive over girl, boy doesn’t want girl to so much as look at other boys, boy is digging grave.

But what would make this boy decide to excavate his own resting place? Eventually (if girl has any self-esteem) he will lose girl and alienate friends/people in the vicinity of the jealousy boxing ring.

I’ve seen it happen time and time again. The thing is as simple as Robert said in that deliciously succinct opening quote: Insecurity.

A person who is truly okay with who they are — and has a decent amount of self love (Read related article: Do You Feel Worthless? 2 Reasons Why You Need to Love YOU), self respect and dignity — is secure from within (their green-eyed ghoul has turned into a lovable pup!).

Coping Strategies

Therefore when you encounter someone with jealousy issues, try not to get your back up — have a little compassion for where they’re at. It is a reflection of extreme low self-esteem and insecurity within themselves that makes them act out in such a manner.

However, in saying that, it is also not healthy to remain in a relationship/friendship or situation where someone is showing signs of jealousy. It’s not acceptable behavior and the person should either take responsibility for their emotions or you should walk away.

It’s alright to gently point out to the person that their behavior is not appropriate and if they can’t sort it out they should think of taking a break to meditate or seek counseling about their lack of self esteem.

Sometimes the jealous person may indeed be on the receiving end of a partner who is not worthy of their love and trust. That is why jealous people tend to have worth issues because no self-respecting person would remain in any kind of relationship if it didn’t serve them to do so.

Hidden Jealousy — Cloak and Daggers!

I was treated to a character recently — let’s call him Barry for convenience — who, after many various encounters, I realized was neurotically insecure.

The way Barry chose to voice his jealousy was through insulting every man, woman and child who had the misfortune to cross his path.

For all intents and purposes, he was quite charming and nice but soon after 10 minutes of banter Barry would pass a flippant, neatly packaged, gob-smacking insult to a passing stranger — very passive aggressive, darling!

This would inevitably make me feel uncomfortable and I would ask him if such behavior was necessary to which he always had some kind of justification.

Now this is not typical jealousy aimed at one person, Barry was just generally in contempt with the world!

His jealousy was boundless. It soon became apparent that he was envious of certain traits in others — be it their youth, money, relationships, status — it didn’t matter! Barry was on the warpath! And jealousy was the fuel to launch his arsenal of verbal insults.

His cover story was that he spoke ‘the truth’. So, basically, if someone did not meet his standard of beauty/intelligence/morals, etc. he would let them know because it is alright to do so (in his mind).

Here’s where we run into a problem. We currently have over 7.3 billion versions of the truth on the planet as I type this!

Everyone has their own version of what true is and that’s okay! Life would be pretty baa-baa-boring if we all thought the same and became neat and tidy sheeple.

Back to Barry (and any other characters out there that need to hear this):

You need to ask yourself 3 questions when you open your mouth to speak the ‘truth’:

  • It may be true but is it necessary?
  • It may be true but is it kind?
  • It may be true but am I only saying it to make myself feel better (and therefore making a total prat out of myself)?

You see, I think Barry is on a constant insult loop because of his own insecurities. He has to constantly put other people down in order for him to feel slightly better (which doesn’t last long anyway!).

Find out what's at the root of jealousy...click on picture

Don’t forget to pin this article 🙂

Any self-respecting person doesn’t need to put others down — they have accepted who they are and feel good about themselves, there is no need to be unkind. Hurting others doesn’t even cross their minds. They are impeccable with their word because they know about the smoky mirror! (Read more about that here: 4 Reasons to Entice You to Quit Drama).

Endings and Beginnings

So, above are two examples of how to lose friends and alienate people. If you’re the jealous type, I beg you to work on your own self-esteem and self-love — it will strengthen your foundation and ability to make lasting relationships without fear of losing the ones you love.

Learn to love yourself — people are attracted to confidence and respect (you don’t have to be a super model to be attractive, you just have to be your authentic self).

And for those of you who are on the receiving end of a green-eyed monster — run (or e-mail this article to them and then run)! I hear Italy is nice this time of year.

What You Can Do to Help in Chaos

Misery and Mercy by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Dining on a Rancid Take-Out Menu?

As society and the media pumps out more pandemonium, bedlam, jiggery-pokery and mayhem for our global dining-room table consumption, one wonders just how much more one can take?

The ways we cope and react are numerous. One can spontaneously break out into interpretive dance (as mentioned in my recent ‘heart talk’ article, which you may find interesting — READ HERE), churn out a few Shakespearian sonnets, join one’s local Hare Krishna movement or go and make like an ostrich (only to name a few saucy coping-mechanisms!).

Dust Off Your Head — You’re Needed!

It’s no small wonder that my close group of friends (and officially me too after last night) are all having the same dreams — unfortunately, that of the ‘end of days’ scenario with those four epic horsemen!

I mean WTF(udge)? The battle for middle earth has begun (Tolkien was way ahead of his time)!

Can you feel it? Yeah, I know a lot of you will say that people have been predicting the apocalypse since the dawn of mankind and naught has happened yet but, seriously, there is something up of late. And I know it’s not just me who’s feeling it.

Has the battle betwixt good and evil reached a climactic pinnacle? If so, whose side will fall?

Okay, this is where you come in…

What Can I Do?

In the throes of mass panic, fear, galvanization and all the rest of it, you can be that still presence.

There are 2 things you can adopt when you feel you’re in the middle of something chaotic:

  1. Be Aware — drop into your heart space (read more about ‘Heart Wisdom’ HERE). Instead of spontaneously bursting out into reaction, take a knee (even if it has to be a quick one!). Centre yourself and see things for what they are. If you can react from your heart instead of sweeping fear or anger, you are opening a space for resolve or balance even if you can’t see it yet.
  2. Be Calm — energy compounds energy. If you react with more chaotic, aggressive, panic-stricken energy you are not helping, you are adding fuel to the fire. If you can act with calm, balanced, centered energy you may just be able to dissolve some of the chaos and be the watering can to those licking flames.

Chaos PinNow, if you’re able to use the above-mentioned traits, you will be in a space where you can be of more help than if you were to become erruptively reactive. When you are reactive without these 2 attributes you will more likely cause more chaos than help to bring about any kind of reconciliation or balance.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing erroneous about taking action in a situation — just be equipped with a calm awareness firmly tucked under your coping-strategy belt.

Your ability to remain calm and aware will be key to bringing about a new consciousness movement.

How to Better Understand Your Yin/Yang Energy

Come see what I did with this painting...Cherie Roe Dirksen

I’ve been itching to get to work on a BIG scale. So, I bought this really large canvas and got painting! It’s a concept that has been brewing in the recesses of my mind for quite some time.

I wanted to mingle masculine and feminine energies together in one epic piece de resistance. I wanted to truly express raw, untainted emotion — gut-wrenching, shadow-self kind of shit. You’re getting me, right?

Then I wanted to balance the energy and…well, you’ll just have to see.

This painting is part of my ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ Series that I think has been stepped up a notch.

I’m not going to waffle on about the inspiration behind this piece as it’s all in the description at the end (scroll to the bottom if you’re seriously that impatient!).

Come be a fly on my studio wall as I reveal ‘Misery and Mercy’ — the painting process below:

Inspiration Behind the Art:

My ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ series was sparked by my spiritual quest for balance in a world that feels like it’s gone completely off the rails.

The background represents the ‘chaos’ of the material world — the concrete jungle with all its emotional graffiti that stains the streets looking for an outlet to voice the misery.

I then try to temper the painting by introducing the ‘beauty’ aspect — nature in all her glorious splendour. Nature always has a way of fighting back and overcoming the odds — not even cement can keep a young sapling down for long.

I was struck by a story told about Mother Theresa by her room-mate of many years. She said that the one trait that stood out the most in her memory of Mother Theresa was her ability to walk down the streets of Calcutta, in all its filth and depravity, and see past the chaos to find a flower growing out of a crack in the gutter. She would then focus on this and smile — it brought her great joy.

Come see what I did with this painting...Cherie Roe Dirksen

Don’t forget to pin this article 😀

When I paint a flower I feel an overwhelming bliss – an excitement to capture the beauty and magic of what I see and how I feel when I am in their presence.

They are such a primary source of inspiration because I still cannot fully fathom their exquisite beauty. Eckhart Tolle put it in a nutshell when he said that we could look upon flowers as the enlightenment of plants. I could look upon flowers all day and still be mesmerized. They are a true gift to us and to gaze upon their delicate wonder is to look at the unfolding of pure potential in a world where everything seems insane.

There is hope.

Thanks for journeying with me through this process. Please don’t forget to leave any comments or feedback in the box below 😀 You know I love hearing from y’all!

Do You Feel Worthless? 2 Reasons Why You Need to Love YOU

Self Love Mirror Image

What’s the Deal with Self Love?

Self-love is the source of all our other loves.” — Pierre Corneille

Healthy self love is not narcissistic or egotistical — let’s just get that out the way first off. Some people immediately associate self love with selfishness or egotism — it is neither.

To love yourself is as important as breathing — without it your cup is empty and you can’t truly love or give of yourself if you’re an empty vessel, now can you?

Meet Jane…

Jane is a vibrant and gifted woman. Jane is also a people pleaser. She spent over 10 years in a dead end relationship with John because she didn’t want to leave him.

Why?

She didn’t want to hurt his feelings.

Wow.

When I questioned Jane about why she hadn’t thought of her own happiness in this equation, she said that she ‘didn’t matter’. She went on to say that she has tried to placate all the people in her life because she wants to ‘keep the peace’ and not ‘rock the boat’.

Jane also divulged that when she was younger she was taught to be selfless and giving and that if she didn’t adhere to these principles she wouldn’t go to heaven.

I think the most important thing in life is self-love, because if you don’t have self-love, and respect for everything about your own body, your own soul, your own capsule, then how can you have an authentic relationship with anyone else?” — Shailene Woodley

So as we started unraveling the complicated tapestry of Jane’s self worth and self love issues, we started getting towards the crux: Jane believed that God wanted her to be self-sacrificing otherwise she wasn’t worthy of His/Her love.

What complete and utter balderdash!

Thing is, a lot of people still believe this to be true and I think it’s the complete opposite. You are a worthy and lovable creation of the creator and deserve as much love and respect as every other beautiful being.

You’ve got to get with the divine program and start turning that love dial to full tilt on the inside!

Unscrambling the Concept of Self-Sacrifice

Here’s why I don’t think it’s healthy to be self-sacrificing:

  • 2 Good Reasons
Don’t forget to ‘Pin’ this article 🙂

When you have regard for other peoples feelings that is great — it’s called empathy/ compassion/tact/kindness — nothing wrong with those traits. But when you do this with no regard for yourself you are, in fact, going against your own principles. Why? Because you are a person too…duh! Did you ever stop to think that you — a shard of the divine in carnation — are doing an injustice to a human being (your very own self!)?

  • When you decide to be in ‘service to others’ instead of ‘service to self’ (this is where egotism and narcissism reign supreme) it is a most noble and amazing thing but you need to be included in that service. It is completely contradictory to abuse your own rights and feelings in order to help others. In fact, you cannot truly give of yourself if you have no self love or sense of self worth.

If you need a bit of help with getting over societal conditioning and not giving a damn about what other people think of you so you can clear a path to self love, give this article a once over: 8 Tips on How to Stop Caring What Other People Think of You

Conclusion: if we all learned to love ourselves more we’d have world peace. Give it a shot.

5 Tips to Get You Living the Dream!

Need Some New Direction?

Are you tired of the same old same old? Do you feel your life needs new lift and you know it? Thing is, how do you go about creating a strategy to implement a new idea or goal and stick to it?

We often know exactly what we want but have no idea how to get there. If you don’t already know what you want to see change in your life, then read this related article: Dr Wayne Dyer: Your Purpose Will Find You

Now for those of you who are ready to revamp and remodel your life, here are some tips to get you started on a fresh game-plan and it’s really easy to follow:

  1. Plot and Plan

Once you have an idea/dream/goal you’ll need something that will be in your face every day reminding you of where you’re heading and this is where a vision board or whiteboard comes in to save the day!  If you’re compiling a vision board (which is the best tool to keep you in alignment with your goal), then make sure the end game is on there — don’t fuss too much over how you’re going to get there. As long as you have direction, synchronicity will guide the way (read more about SYNCHRONICITY here: Why Sychronicity Can Change Your Life). Using synchronicity and your innate wisdom will guide you to take the appropriate action at the right time and get you into that slipstream in the quickest way possible. The best place to have your vision board is on your fridge, office space or the back of your bathroom door, where you are guaranteed to visit daily and have the plan etched into the back of your eyeballs.  Or be lazy like me and create a vision board on your computer then use it as a desktop background — another guarantee that you will see it every day.

  1. Plausibility
Living the Dream

Don’t forget to add this to your Pinterest board!

The quickest way to fall off that goal bandwagon is by setting unrealistic goals. Start with small, baby steps to your destination.  Draw up a list and if there is too much on the list, narrow it down to the top 3 achievable goals for this day/month/year.  You can always put the leftovers on your next list of goals. Mapping this out should be fun not exhausting — don’t tire yourself out before you’ve even begun. So, for example, you want to manifest a farm in the country but you’re still staying with your parents. Instead of drawing sweat-beads in the effort of manifesting a smallholding, try first to manifest a stepping stone —  perhaps a comfortable apartment? I’m not saying you shouldn’t reach for the stars, what I’m saying is that manifesting your dreams takes believability and that is unique to every individual. So if you’re new at this or things haven’t worked out in the past, try to set your goals within a realistic framework and you can always work your way up that ladder! Goals are not set in stone, they are mutable and if you change your mind — there is nothing wrong with changing tracks. Keep that list well dusted!

  1. Inject it with Zest

Make your new desire map fun.  If you want to change your eating habits and get slim and healthy, find a way to make it a stimulating change by jazzing up your menu/grocery list and looking forward to your meal instead of planning a drab and monotonous repast plan.  Dance in the kitchen while you cook! If you want to find a fresh, purposeful and electrifying job, have fun reinventing yourself and what you stand for — if you want an exciting job, excite yourself first.  Make damn sure you’re as exciting as the job you’re after. Savvy?

  1. Feel It, Baby!

There’s no way to bypass this one — you really do have to feel what you’re trying to bring into your experience. If you want to be lighter — you’ve got to feel it within first.  Do you want an inspiring job?  Set fire to your sense of self — ignite and burn bright! If you feel like you can’t then pretend. Pretend until it becomes second nature to feel it.  You’ll begin to rewire your brain to think differently through repetition.  Remember:  Doubt = drought.  Water your seeds and you’ll see the shoots soon enough but you’ve got to stick with the feeling program. It’s one thing to think and affirm your desires but what truly sparks the ignition is feeling.

  1. Kid Around

Everyone has an inner child that wants to play and get dirty in the mud.  There is a part of you that still thinks a flower is the most awesome miracle of nature, that swinging on an old tyre tied to a tree is sheer bliss or that blowing bubbles is as mesmerizing as your Playstation. Tap into that part of you when you are trying to visualize your goals.  Your inner child will help you make-believe a whole new world for yourself if you only let him/her out to play.

Just remember that a tedious, monotonous strategy will reap boredom and inertia whereas an adventurous, exciting plan will have you hopping, jumping and skipping to where you want to be with a smile on your face. Ultimately, joy is your purpose so have fun on your way to dream manifestation!

How to Better Understand Your Yin/Yang Energy

From a Distance Header by Cherie Roe Dirksen

I saw on my Facebook feed one early morn, that Venus and Mars are doing a little dance in the morning sky together in my neck of the woods.

On 1st September (which is our Spring Day in the Southern Hemisphere), they were apparently at an exact degree in Leo and appear as one united star.

It feels like a perfect metaphor for the union of the divine feminine and masculine.

The yin and yang energy (and the merging of the two) has felt very poignant over the past couple of weeks and seems to be culminating into a collaborative peak.

But before we get all in a tizz over this titillating sexual energy (as in the ‘universal energy’ and not necessarily just ‘sex’ — although that would be nice too, let’s face it!) — let’s have a simplified look at what these beautiful, dichotomous energies bring to the planetary table:

Sacred Feminine Traits — Looking Within:

The female (yin) vibration encapsulates the ‘being’ energy and yields:

  • Receptivity
  • Unconditional Love
  • Nurturing
  • Kindness
  • Compassion
  • Intuition
  • Creativity
  • Flow
  • Sensitivity
  • Tenderness

Divine Masculine Traits — Looking Without:

The male (yang) vibration imparts the ‘doing’ energy and brings:

  • Security
  • Action
  • Stability
  • Strength (inner and outer)
  • Courage
  • Expansion
  • Safety/Protection
  • Support (emotional and physical)
  • Responsibility
  • Logic
  • Confidence

Marrying the Yin/Yang — ‘I Do’

Whether you are male or female, gay or straight (or anything in between) — you can encapsulate the above-mentioned traits.

The waltz between male and female is a beautiful one and our interdependence is sacred and should not be seen as a weakness but an amazing, God-given strength.

Our ability to work together to weave a reality full of love, life and laughter is a massive blessing that we should all strive to claim.

We simply could not exist without each other.

When we can learn to embrace our characteristics and use them to better discover ourselves, each other and our world —we will step into an adventure beyond belief.

Drop all the stereotypical archetypes and societal labels and step into a world full of wonder as you redefine what being ‘man’ or ‘woman’ means to you. Now imagine all the fun you are going to have playing around with these lively energies!

What Could Tumbling Through the Void Possibly Do For Us?

Been in a Funk Lately?

Sometimes we get stuck in a place where nothing seems to be happening. Either we lose our mojo or we try so hard but nothing seems to give back. This is the dreaded ‘void’ and it can cause quite a fluster when we seem to be trapped in it.

I’m pretty verbal about how I’m feeling and have no compunction to truly state what I’ve been going through — this usually results in me finding out I’m not the only one going through something. So, recent conversations with random friends, family and acquaintances all point towards a common experience of this void (the place where not much is happening) — it seems to be where a lot of us are hanging out of late.

Who Brought the Life Jackets?

It’s especially frustrating when we have great ideas but have no energy, no takers, no inclination, no time or no funding to implement such grand plans.

It can indeed seem that we are floating down Diarrhea Creek with no paddle.

The good news is that when we find ourselves in the void there’s probably a damn fine reason for it.

What You Waiting For?

Voids can be great times for:

  • Reflection —  do some inner work, see if there are cobwebs that need dusting on the inside.
  • Reattunement — should you be singing to a different tune, is it time to start anew altogether?
  • Recalibrating — adjusting, checking and realigning your objectives.

If you’ve got all these ducks in a row and you’ve even taken action to see new prospects come to fruition and still nothing is happening — be a sitting duck!

What? Am I Quacking Up?

What I mean is to be still and at peace in the void — don’t strain against it, wish you weren’t in it or panic for fear of never getting out of it.

The void can also be interpreted as the place of creation — the ultimate matrix or womb. Watch for synchronicities and opportunities — be fully aware of what you want to see happen and how the universe tries to make it possible.

Related Article: Are You Experiencing Synchronicity?

I was watching a lecture by Gregg Braden and he said that when we can be in this space without judgment or fear, we allow an opening for spirit (who doesn’t want to see you void of anything) to fill our void in the best way possible. When we try to fill the void in our angst, we can further delay the true path of our soul.

So, have patience if you find yourself in the void and trust that you will soon be guided to your higher calling.

Breathwork: Did You Know You Could Be Starving Your Body of Oxygen?

Taking Breathing For Granted

Breath — it is the first thing we do when we experience this life and the last thing we do when we make our grand exit. As physical beings, it is our life – we cannot function without it. And yet we take it so for granted.

“Did you know that your quality of breath can determine your quality of life?”

In meditation, it is our bridge between the noise of our minds and the accessible silence. It can be our pathway to stillness and present moment awareness.

The Triad by Cherie Roe Dirksen (2)

Did you know that your quality of breath can determine your quality of life?

Breathing correctly boosts the brain (it has even been shown to spark brain growth — especially in the elderly), invigorates the body and helps us to find clarity (especially when we find ourselves under stress or anxiety).

Controlled breathing can even lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Did you know that:

  • Oxygen is important to blood cells because oxygen is needed to make energy for our body.
  • You don’t get blood cell oxygenation from food — you breathe in O2 and it is picked up by the red blood cells in the lungs and taken through the body to all the cells via hemoglobin.

But Don’t We Breathe Naturally?

Most of us are on auto-pilot with our breaths — they are shallow and we don’t usually pay much attention to the inhalation/exhalation process.

Be honest with yourself — how often do you take a deep, belly-filled breath?

I know you’ve just done it now 😉 But think about it — it’s not that often, right?

Try to consciously breathe, even if it is every hour. As mentioned above, deep breathing will help your body by infusing your cells with oxygen, bringing vitality and balance to your system.

Shallow breathing restricts oxygen to the brain causing fatigue and lethargy so — whenever you can — put your attention on your breath.

Try this exercise:

Breathe in to the count of eight – really fill your lungs and let your stomach expand to the extent that you look pregnant. Hold that breath to the count of eight and then release it slowly to the count of eight.

Do this 3 times as many times a day as you can, especially in the morning, when you awaken, and just before sleep.

It will give you an added kick to the day and induce restful sleep at night.

Using Mindful Breathing to Begin Therapeutic Meditation

To those of you who are old-hat with meditating — you can skip this part. For those who are new to meditation and want to try it out…it may benefit you to read on.

When you engage in mindful breathing (find somewhere quiet to sit or lie down, close your eyes and put your attention on inhalation and exhalation) you form a bridge to the ‘still’ place in your mind.

With time and practice, you will be able to cross that bridge a little easier every time you engage in meditation and breathwork.

Don’t judge yourself or get upset if your mind just won’t shut up – this is normal and takes a lot of practice to get to the point where you can achieve full stillness without all the fluff and ‘white noise’.

Sometimes my mind just won’t let go of a song or tune when I am trying to meditate (especially when it thinks it’s being funny and starts up with ‘The Sounds of Silence’) and I just let that be – it usually dissipates in the end. Just persist with the mindful breathing and go with the flow of where your consciousness wants to take you.

“This is the journey into the mind and it can be a wonderfully calming experience…”

Mindful breathing techniques in meditation can be really awesome as you begin to sense the vibrations and different frequencies in the ether and all around you. It might come in the form of flashing or bright coloured lights or a vortex or wormhole. Sometimes it just remains dark or ‘spotty’ – a bit like the night sky.

Stay with this and see where it takes you. This is the journey into the mind and it can be a wonderfully calming experience.

Enjoy using your nasal passages and lungs to enliven and revitalize your body and soothe your soul!

4 Reasons to Eat Humble Pie and Starve the Ego

Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everyone will respect you.”   ~Lao Tzu (Tao Te Ching)

Easier said than done, right?

We all experience our own egos in mild to moderate doses every now and again (and for some, it’s a constant fighting battle that they’re not even aware of).

When will we actually get it through our heads that it’s okay to be who we are?

The Playing Field For Happiness and Sanity

I can only put this through via a personal encounter I had last week with my ego. It was a sneaky meeting, I didn’t even realize at the time that my ego had me by the short and curly’s.

I was having trouble with a computer-related work issue. Instead of asking for help, I tried to solve the problem when I was clearly not in the headspace or in the ‘know’ of how to fix the issue.

I squirmed and shifted in my seat whilst I allowed my temper to rise. I just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel — the tunnel was sealed off and a huge concrete barrier had been erected to block my passage.  The clock was ticking and I was working with a looming deadline.

I began to tear my hair out (literally, at this point, not merely figuratively) and started banging my fists down on the table (real mature) — I was feeling the anger and rage mounting and I was directing all that energy at myself.

Now here is where my ego stepped in.

I felt like I was useless, incompetent and stupid. If I had to ask for help (which at this point was inevitable) I was admitting defeat and that I wasn’t coping (ego not liking the latter).

I fancy myself as a strong, independent, problem-solving kind of woman and this was just not on!

Tail Between the Legs

I bit the bullet and asked for help which I received and within an hour things were back on track.

My ego was seriously wounded though. I had proven myself to be unlearned in this specific field (which is not really my forte but, heck, that just didn’t seem to matter to my ego). I sat down to reflect and lick my wounds.

Here’s the crux of what I learned:

  • Asking for help does not mean you are stupid.  It just means you are not thick enough to stop yourself from learning or letting other people exercise their talents in a specific field. Take that one, ego!
  • Letting your guard down to show people your vulnerabilities is not disempowering it is the opposite — you’re empowering yourself to be who you are. Your vulnerabilities can make you more relatable to others and yourself.  Huh? Cut yourself some slack! We’re all trying our best and sometimes we fall. The hallmark of a pro is to get up again and dust off — that’s what makes you who you are.
  • Take a massive slice of humble pie and have a good laugh at your expense. The ego diminishes at the sound of you laughing at yourself. Don’t take things personally (even if it’s you doing the personal criticizing).
  • To stubbornly try and do something against your grain, especially when you know you are going down a slippery slope, causes you pain. Stop doing it. Trust your gut instinct — if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.  If you must do it, ask for help instead of getting your knickers in a knot. The ego is always trying to compare, compete or criticize — try identify any of these traits in what you are pursuing. Be honest with yourself — are you doing this for you or for someone/something else?

More Pie?

After I had my slice of humble pie, I came across the very same situation yesterday. Instead of a repeat performance of slipping into a state of panic, self-torture, anguish and dismay at my perceived lack of capabilities, I had a good laugh at myself and the reoccurring predicament I found myself in.

I acknowledged that this was another moment where I was out of my depth and I immediately asked for help.

I felt like I stepped aside from my ego and witnessed myself in that vulnerable but okay place and I wasn’t feeling diminished in any way.  I was just me and it felt good.

The actual problem was sorted in less than 10 minutes and, contrary to what I thought, I wasn’t at fault this time (yay for me!). It was like a test from the Universe to see if I had digested that humble pie I ate last week.

My conclusion was to love yourself despite your ‘faults’, accept yourself for who you are and don’t give a toss what other people think of you. Step into your power and own the gifts that are specifically you — don’t try to be who you are not.

Be happy.

Do You Need to Call a ‘Time-Out’ For Yourself? 7 Things You Need to Be Aware Of….

The Swing by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt.”
Lao Tzu, Te Tao Ching

We live at a break-neck, fast-paced, mind-reeling, brain-fogging speed — where everything was supposed to be done yesterday!

Sound familiar to you?

Coping in this age is quite a balancing act — one needs to be a trapeze artist just to see yourself through the day.

Blow-Outs and Tears!

I found myself burnt-out and close to the edge of insanity last week, where just about anything was triggering my tears, anxieties and frustrations. After I had bawled my eyes out and taken myself to the point of exhaustion, I began to reflect.

  • Why had I not noticed the signs of my burn-out?
  • What could I have done for myself to prevent this?

There was no simple, blanket answer but there was one thing I knew for sure — I simply wasn’t taking care of myself.

I was giving myself no time for meditation, reflection, sitting in my garden or any kind of ‘zenning’ out whatsoever. It was just go, go, go…

Universal Signs and Course Alterations

When we are spinning off our axis, the Universe usually grounds us somehow in an attempt to make us stop, drop and reflect (take a knee!). Sometimes it comes as a severe blow (emotionally or physically), illness, headaches, accidents or nervous breakdowns.

So, if you wanted to make a perfect recipe for disaster, try these steps (or maybe you’ll opt for their counterpart):

  • Don’t make time for yourself — or maybe try pampering yourself every day with a long, hot soak in the tub or an hour of reading on the sofa. Sometimes (and especially if we have families that keep us on our toes) we need some ‘alone’ time — just a bit of space to call our own for an hour or so. Try ask a partner or friend to help out if you need a little time-out.
  • Don’t go outdoors, just keep on sitting behind that desk/computer screen — or perhaps go for a half hour walk in the park or sit on the beach listening to the waves crash. Even if you just sit in your garden — get some good ‘ol Earth therapy. Listen to the birds singing or the wind blowing. Walk bare-feet on the grass.
  • Don’t listen to your innate — or perhaps pay attention to your gut feeling. What is it that you feel you should be doing in this moment? If it stresses you out to think of doing it because you don’t have time — be honest with yourself: Do you truthfully not have time — not even 10 minutes? Or can you spare a little time for yourself in order to save a meltdown moment?
  • Don’t take time to organize your day — or think about prioritizing your schedule first thing over your morning cuppa so you have a game-plan for the rest of the day. This can make you feel organized and in control which can greatly reduce stress.
  • Don’t cut yourself any slack — or what about accepting that you can’t be or do everything today? Let a roll-over happen if it must. Assess what you can do tomorrow instead of stressing yourself out to finish now. Sometimes we set unattainable goals for ourselves and then sweat bullets trying to carry out our own orders. If it’s other peoples orders that are driving you to drink — see if you can call a meeting to discuss reality (as in what is fairly and reasonably achievable in a given time).
  • Don’t talk about your problems to others — or swallow your pride and seek out a kind and attentive ear of a friend, family member or colleague. Sometimes we just need someone to listen without giving advice. When we start to verbally unpack our mind clutter, it can lead us to insights to possible solutions.
  • Don’t laugh, dance or listen to music!  Any of these would mean instant alleviation of stress. So, only use these tools if you want to feel better.

Okay — I’ll confess — this blurb has been a definite personal pep talk. But,hey, if it has helped you in any way — I’m delighted! 🙂

And remember that old proverb…a stitch in time saves nine!

How Weird, Little Synchronicities Can Actually Be the Bomb!

Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

For those of you who don’t know what synchronicity is, please READ THIS.

Meaningful Coincidences

“Synchronicity hints at the unified world behind the illusory veil of the material universe” — Roger S. Jones

Synchronous moments usually mark major game changes in our individual timelines.

It could be that moment when you bump into a friend you haven’t seen in years that you just had a dream about.  You get talking and she’s the very person you need to collaborate with.  You both go on to start an amazing and successful online enterprise.

When you look back at that point in time, you just know that synchronicity bought you together and your dream was a breadcrumb leading you to success. That kind of synchronous moment is a no-brainer — it was Kismet!

Synchronicities are awesome markers and can change your life forever if you don’t brush them off as meaningless.

Seemingly Meaningless Coincidences

Okay, so what about those itty bitty synchronicities? You know the ones…

You trip over your son’s toy T-Rex in the morning.  You walk into the supermarket and there’s a big Barney the Dinosaur cut-out as you head in.  The soccer mom who’s carpooling today comes to the door wearing a Marc Bolan T-Rex t-shirt and you start to think you’re going crazy.

What do dinosaurs have to do with your life right now?

Should you be looking more deeply into prehistory?  What is the universe trying to tell you?

That your arms are too short?

Tuning into the Radio

I’ve got an amusing personal ‘mini-synch’ story to share with you: I was packaging a painting for a client earlier this week. I decided to put on a bit of Radiohead (who doesn’t like a bit of Brit rock to make the workload more tolerable?).

So, there I was jiving and gyrating about my studio whilst cutting up board and getting packaging tape in my hair.

I got to my laptop screen to get my clients address (which I hadn’t seen yet) and to my utter amazement…he stayed in a place called ‘Radiokop’.  Which, yes — you guessed it — directly translated means ‘Radiohead’ in Afrikaans.

I wasn’t even aware that such a suburb existed in Johannesburg but there it was, as bold as brass, and staring at me from my computer screen! I even did a Google search to make sure that there really was place called ‘Radiokop’ and…of course there was!

Okay, so what do I do with this bit of fun but useless information?

Does it mean I’m going to get a visit from Thom Yorke?  I don’t think so…I mean I wouldn’t mind — don’t get me wrong — but I don’t think that’s what it means.

What’s Really Going On?

In my most humble opinion (and I have given this topic some strenuous thought), I don’t think anything happens in our lives for no reason.

These little synchronicities could very well be indicators that we are on path.

Think of it like dialing into your best life — the life your over-soul or higher self came here to express and experience. The closer you get to tuning into your appropriate channel the more life will spit out these weird little markers.

They’re not to be taken too literally, I think they are just there to let us know we’re in the timeline we’re supposed to be in — a tiny wink from the Universe.

When we diverge off this ‘preferred’ timeline, I think our propensity for the wee synchronicities will become less…a little like the white noise interference when we are dialing out of a station. But the more we try to stay tuned in, the more these coincidences will light the way for us.

Just a thought.

What do you think? Balderdash or believable?

Are You Just Flat Out Broken by the LOA?

It can be darn right frustrating watching people around you manifesting their hearts desires and there you are feeling like you couldn’t conjure a pig in a poke!

What’s wrong with your Law of Attraction prowess?

You’re so sick and tired of hearing that you bring about that which you think about most because you’ve been drawing sweat-beads trying to manifest that $4 million bank account and it just ain’t happening.

What are you doing wrong?

Shooting Too High and Taking the Fall

I’ve had my feelers out, listening to how friends use the LOA to attract a better life. I’ve got to say I’m a bit taken aback. A lot of the aforementioned peeps are straining to go large or go home…and they’re ending up taking the long and frustrating road home.

No wonder!

Here’s what I think is going horribly wrong:

  • Instead of trying to manifest a bar of chocolate, they’re trying to get a ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
  • In lieu of attracting a long lost friend to make contact, they’re trying to procure a relationship with the hot guy from ‘Supernatural’.
  • Despite their amazing efforts to get in shape — and they’re really looking good and making steady progress — they’re feeling shortchanged because they don’t have a bod like J-Lo yet.

In my opinion, the one factor that is going awry is the target is set too high and the patience to manifest such a trophy is way too low.

I totally advocate going for your dreams no matter how intimidating but I also believe in a steady progression of knock-down goals.

It seems like a lot of people are missing the groundwork — then when nothing is coming to fruition, hands are thrown in the air and it is declared that this new-age hippy sh*t doesn’t work.

No…it does work — you just need to hone down on your skill to use this magnificent force of free universal energy.

Those seeds are indeed fertilized and are growing beneath the soil — you may just need to tune your patience, work on your faith and brush up on your affirmation/visualization/feeling expertise. The best way to do this is to start small. No on e wants to hear this but it is actually the fastest track to success.

Trying to manifest a million dollar bank account when you’re sitting in the red is going to exhaust you. So try manifesting $100, then $400, then $600…then progressively increase the amount.

Getting a Self Worth Work-Out

Some people CAN manifest big, it’s not that you CAN’T. It just may be that you’re self belief muscles need some training. As my mother used to remind me, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Give yourself bite-sized goals to achieve. Each time you vanquish the small hill, it makes the big mountain more and more conquerable (is that even a word?). Now you’re starting to build and flex those worth and belief muscles to the max. Eventually, you’ll be able to take the LOA training wheels off and go full tilt!

But until then, you’ve got to eat the elephant one bite at a time (what a ghastly saying! But it sure purveys the point).

Going from Zero to Hero

Okay, so what’s worth checking in on are these points:

  1. Start small. Manifest things daily that are achievable and remarkable. In other words, you want a beautiful garden so your first thought is to manifest a new palatial home with grounds to match when all you need to do is try initially attract a rose bush (palatial mansion may take in excess of 10-20 years to manifest, rose bush may take a day — you do the math!). If your neighbor then leans over the fence and offers you a gorgeous little cutting of her iceberg roses, you’ll not only be pleasantly surprised because the world works in remarkable ways but you’ll be toning those believability biceps. Slow and steady wins the race. This is how you think and manifest outside the box.
  2. Water! You’ve got to nourish your dreams. Keep them well fertilized and fed. Affirm your desires daily and don’t let impatience or despair creep in and ruin your flower bed! If you’re feeling like you’re not manifesting — check in with yourself. Are your goals realistic? What can you do to enhance your desires (like meditate on them or create a vision board, set an even smaller more achievable goal, etc)?
  3. Trim Back. You future project what you’re thinking NOW. Keep realigning your thoughts to nurture your dreams and not bring about existential drought. Stop reiterating the same old sob story about your life/finances/weight/relationships/’fill in the blank’. Create new exciting versions of the life you’re rewiring to step into.

Happy manifesting!

Are You Secretly Opposed to Nirvana?

Raw by Cherie Roe Dirksen

I’m a huge fan of grunge rock band, Nirvana, and could never be opposed to Kurt, Krist or Dave’s inciting, excitable and rebellious music that was the soundtrack of my youth — so now that that’s out the way…this article is actually about the state of Nirvana.

Smells Like Heaven

Nirvana (in Hinduism and Buddhism) is the highest level of enlightenment, a state of perfect peace and bliss — what most would call ‘heaven’.

It is the space in which our suffering and desires go away and are replaced with unity consciousness, happiness and tranquility.

It sounds good enough to eat!  But let’s get real…everyone has their own personal version of heaven, surely?

A Little More Lithium. Sir/Madam?

Nirvana is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘extinction/disappearance’ as in from the individual state to the universal state.  A-ha! Now we’re cracking that jagged little pill!

It is said to break the reincarnation cycle. Okay, am I sensing your ears perked up just then? Nirvana is starting to look very appetizing again! I mean, who doesn’t want to break the reincarnation/karma cycle? Unless, of course, you’re a masochist or have a propensity for dualistic roller-coaster rides.

But transcending desire?  Becoming one with everything?  Doesn’t that mean to lose ones very identity/personality?  I, for one, have to be honest here — I don’t want to lose my individuality!

I think our individual traits and nuances make life rather exciting. But is that my ego or spirit talking?

Come As You Are

I’ve spent the last 40 years honing and shaping who I am and now I’ve got to let it go?  Dust in the wind?

Just the word individuality says ‘in divided duality’ — clearly not a state of ‘oneness’…or is it?

What if we’ve been misinterpreting nirvana and it is not something that only monks can achieve if they’ve relinquished all and meditated for 50  years (which, let’s face it, only puts us off further because most of the human race wouldn’t even think to attempt that)?

We each have the freewill, of course, to do whatever we please on our various paths and if meditating for a lifetime gets you going, then kudos to you.

But for those of us who feel slightly lacking in the discipline department, what about us?  Are we condemned?

Polly Wants a Cracker

If we are smokers, drinkers, partiers, sugar junkies, caffeine addicts — are we going to be treading the karmic wheel for another thousand years?

I totally advocate a healthy body and a balance in all we do and put into our sacred vessels — but look at all those things listed above. They’re all ‘physical’, aren’t we more than our material bodies?

You can be ‘Perfect Pollyanna’ and do yoga, pilates, run the extra mile, eat raw, cut out dairy and sugar, only drink mineral water gathered from a well by vestal virgins in Toronto and meditate 12 hours a day on the top of Mount Shasta and still not achieve nirvana if you don’t truly ‘get it’.

We have a mind/body/spirit connection and this particular trinity is integral to unveiling nirvana.

Milking It

Okay, so let’s backtrack a little…earlier I said that some people might want to come back for another life-time because they have a fondness for duality and roller-coaster rides.

Most humans enjoy a little thrill — hence the success of most amusement parks — shrieking in excitement as our guts try to shimmy on up our throats, we delight in being yanked back and forth, up and down (or, at least, some of us do).

Now here’s the big BUT…

…but what if we were meant to be thrilled, delighted and thrown into constant enjoyment? What if nirvana is what WE make of it — the joy we define as our own (as long as we hurt none in the process).

And here is the juicy part….

In Full Bloom

What if ‘spirit’ wants to be excited and not just the ‘human’? If ‘hu’ means God and man means ‘man’ (the divine within), isn’t God just out to have a good time with this amazing creation — the uni/multiverse?

Isn’t that what this whole ‘separation’ of the One was all about — God got bored?

So when your purpose becomes joy and you are respecting other peoples freewill and harming none — you can say that you are positively in nirvana.  You are experiencing a connection with your fellow man/life forms (because you respect all life as emanating from the One which is ultimately you) whilst being a beautiful, expressive, creative individual little sausage!

We’re All Heart-Shaped Boxes On a Plain

Could it be that we can mould and shape our experience of nirvana to accommodate our own sacrosanct free will? We must define ‘happy’ for ourselves because it is multi-faceted (one box doesn’t tick all) — simple yet complicated — just like God…just like us.

It’s like an infinity symbol (figure of 8) — seemingly in duality (as there are two circles) but ultimately connected as one.

Perhaps there is no blanket state of nirvana? All this blood, sweat and tears we shed to achieve enlightenment is defined by whom? Gurus, leaders, saints, masters? But it should be defined by you.

Who is the ‘I Am’ presence within you?  That is what you need to figure out — that is the way to your personal state of nirvana

About a Girl, a Boy and Creation in General

Nirvana

Don’t forget to pin this article 😀

We are already one with each other — it is only an illusion that we were ever separate.

We are quantum — we can be everywhere at any time, we can be everything at any time.

We are duality and we are one, we are anything we think we can be and we are the nothingness in between…and we are powerful beyond measure!

Don’t be opposed to nirvana, you are nirvana…remember (reinstate that membership — you are already part of the whole).

So, all that is left is to fire up the stereo, pump up the volume and listen to ‘Nevermind‘….

Monotone Rainbow by Cherie Roe DriksenWhen the Going Gets Tough

Life get’s hairy — let’s face it.

“Perseverance, secret of all triumphs” — Victor Hugo

Let me paint a metaphorical picture:  You’re standing at the checkout, waiting to pay.  You’re going to make a beautiful meal when you get home and you’re salivating at the very thought of those steamed baby potatoes with melted butter and parsley, the carrots Julliene with coriander and the roasted butternut with creamy mushroom sauce.  Then disaster strikes!

Your card is declined just as you’re about to whisk your shopping away and head off to culinary heaven.

You go home and eat baked beans on toast.

Take That Shovel and…

We’ve all been there.  At some point or another along life’s many twisted and adventurous paths — we all come face to face with the discomfort of a bump in the road (to put it ever so mildly!).

You’ve basically got 3 choices when you hit these hurdles. You go get the shovel out the boot of your car.

Now you’re standing along the roadside staring at the bump, shovel in hand, and you can either:

  1. Shovel more sand and grit onto the bump — make it good and high (and more difficult to overcome)!
  2. Give up and toss that spade aside, or….
  3. Level that bump!

I know you’re all savvy and can probably see where I’m going with this, but let’s get more specific anyway, why don’t we?

Shovels Aside, Show Me the Gold

Now the key to success is very unlikely in excessively piling more dirt and gravel to the hurdle. It’s probably not the wisest thing to throw in the towel and declare defeat either…no! You show that bump who’s boss!

  1. Making things worse by playing the ‘poor me’ card (shoveling more sand on the bump) — we can all fall victim to feeling sorry for ourselves when life gets us down.  It’s okay to have a little pity party rounded off with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.  However, inevitably you are the master co-creator of your experience and you’re going to need to pick yourself up off the floor and work on a game-plan to get out of the quagmire!  The sooner you get out of victim mode the quicker you can bypass the obstacle and glean all the lessons it came to teach you.
  2. Packing it all in (tossing the spade aside) — it’s easy to give up and wave your white flag of surrender. But perhaps you have not yet fully tested your balls out — they may be stronger than you think (yes, you read right and feel free to reprimand my verbal conduct in the comment section below)? Have you ever thought about why you came to planet Earth — the playground of all things dualistic and difficult?  Are you giving up on a dream, goal or ideal? Is your surrender empowering or disempowering? How about standing strong, head held high and facing those demons straight up? What have you got to lose? What have you got to gain? Are you in your truth and integrity? If yes, you walk on, sunshine! Climb right over that bump and show the world that you’ve got what it takes to overcome diversity (and some pretty impressive gonads).
  3. Riding the waves with grace and ease (leveling that bump!) — I’m not going to give you any clichés about lemons resulting in margaritas or soft drinks but what I will say is that when those waves hit and it looks like you may drown, try not to panic (when in doubt of drowning, try floating on your back — metaphorically speaking, ‘go with the flow’ or see where the universe is trying to take you).  Instead, see that wave for what it is, what it can possibly show/teach you and why it came at that particular moment. There is gold to be mined in any situation and your job is to dig until you find your treasure — don’t leave any stone unturned. The best way I know to do this is with patience, understanding, compassion (for yourself and for others — hell, we’re all on this floating globe on the outskirts of the Milky Way, navigating the daily grind of existential interference) and a lust to understand the workings of the universe and why we’re all on this pick ‘n mix planet. There are lessons in everything and, if I may be so bold as to suggest, your job may be to cross the bridge so that you can look back, when you’re on the other side of your dilemma, and say ‘Ah, is that why that happened?! I’m sure glad I stuck with the program’

Let’s finish with that metaphorical painting I started earlier: So, a week after the baked beans on toast incident, you’re back at your local grocers when the checkout lady casually tells you about the food poisoning scandal they had with that dodgy new brand of creamy mushroom sauce.  Boy, do you think your lucky now!

As Winnie the Pooh so eloquently put it (with a little help from A.A. Milne):

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

The Defector Recipe: JFK, Muse and YOU!

Muse Rock Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence.

On infiltration instead of invasion. On subversion instead of elections. On intimidation instead of free choice. On guerrillas by night instead of armies by day.

It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources Into the building of a tightly knit highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised.” — John. F. Kennedy

This is a segment of a speech given by John. F. Kennedy in 1961 that is the opening of Muse’s new song, Defector.

Rocking Out the Shadows

Albeit that JFK was aiming this at the Russians and the Cold War, this speech rings true when one associates the words with the ‘shadow government’ of today — wielding it’s blatant agenda whilst rubbing our noses in it.

Okay, I’m a big Muse fan and absolutely fell over myself when I listened to this new track — I was galvanized to the point of dropping everything to run off and join that infamous group, Anonymous, or see if Russell Brand needs some pro bono admin staff.

Defect or Die!

The song is about the unremitting human spirit, our freedom that is being sorely compromised and the independence we so richly deserve (if you haven’t heard it already, I will have the YouTube link at the end of the blog — I dare you to not jump out your seat and wave your freedom flag about whilst listening!).

Muse has hit the nail on the head, yet again, with this tune that incites one to take a stand against the tyranny of the powers that be.

So what does it mean to be a defector?

The shortened dictionary definition is a person who abandons another person, state/country, cause or doctrine to which one is bound by some tie (as of allegiance or duty).

Where Do I Sign Up?

I so want to be a defector!  I want to stick it to the man.

I’m sick of hearing about stories of police brutality, corporate and government corruption, Monsanto poisoning our food, fluoride in our water dumbing us down into passivity and confusion, lies being fed to us through the media and all the rest!

We’re supposed to elect the government to serve us but all they do is serve themselves and the greed of the corporate agenda.

We pay the salaries of the police to protect us but they turn on the very citizens that pay their wages.

Community, Community, Community…Oh and Town Meetings

So what can the man on the street do to defect without having to join some covert mission or underground group?

I was listening to an Australian radio presenter the other day (can’t remember his name unfortunately) and he said something that really struck a chord.

He was talking about recreating a sense of community where people can discuss issues and find solutions like they did it the golden days of yore — when they had something called a ‘town meeting’.

Bring back the town meeting, for lords sake!

He quite rightly went on to say that since we allowed TV’s into our homes, we generally abandoned getting together and discussing better ways forward due to the impression that the TV was giving us all the news and current event updates we needed.

If only we cottoned onto the fact that the media weren’t exactly always telling us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Give Me the Good News!

Okay, to cut a long rant short — the good news is that we can still take back the power.  That’s what this whole ‘awakening’ is about, right?

The more aware we are the more we can act and do something about the pickle we find ourselves in.

Just this morning I awoke to find 2 really great news stories — it starts to slowly restore ones faith in humanity and the power we, the people, truly have. Let me share them with you (their headings should clue you in as to what they’re about even if you don’t want to read them):

History Has Been Made. Female Genital Mutilation Banned In Nigeria

Organic Takeover: Toxic Food Makers Lose $4 Billion in Sales in One Year

Change starts one person at a time, one cause at a time and we should try to find solace in even the smallest arenas of positive change.

If you can ignite a fire in your community and start to get to know your neighbors and fellow townies, we most definitely will find our voices again and bring about a new paradigm on this planet.

Yup, it may not happen tomorrow but all the small success stories will eventually turn into an avalanche of human metamorphosis — a recasting of civilization as we know it.

Now, as promised, lend your ears and eyes to Muse’s ‘Defector’ and be prepared to be blown away!

3 Essentials You Need To Do When You’re On Fire!

3 Essentials You Need To Do When You’re On Fire!

Moonlit Woods by Cherie Roe Dirksen 1

You’re on fire. You need a game plan to douse the flames. What do you do?

Stop. Drop. Roll.

Now let’s take this principle and put it into practice when we are emotionally fired up and have no idea how to quell those licking flames.

Playing With Fire

What do you do when you feel like you’re climbing the walls, ripping your hair out, at your wit’s end or, plain and simply, just stuck for a solution to an insurmountable problem?

Well, I find these 3 techniques helpful:

  1. Stop — take a breath! Propel yourself out of your environment to get some space from that emotional fireball that’s about to engulf you. This could mean anything from a weekend break somewhere (if you’re able) to sitting in your garden or taking a walk in nature —  you just need to bump yourself out of your comfort zone.  Give yourself some breathing room to…
  2. Drop — take a knee! Give yourself time to integrate, reflect and get some clarity as to why you’re in this ‘pickle’. Ask yourself the vital questions — why is this happening, what’s in it for me, am I attracting this on some unconscious level, what can I do to learn from this experience and possibly grow? Be brutally honest with yourself and go into every dark corner for the answers! If you don’t, you are the one who will suffer. No short cuts and no fudging!
  3. Roll — go with the flow! When you can roll with the punches, see the bigger picture of a situation and accept what seemingly cannot be changed, you’re stepping into a field of infinite possibility. Acceptance is offering no resistance so there is no pushing energy — you are then left with the void of what you have made space for to start manifesting a new track. Now you can begin the process of alchemizing it (either emotionally or physically or possibly even both). Alchemy is just transforming something into something else. Try to go into a meditational space where you can clearly visualize and feel what you want the outcome to be (bearing in mind that no-ones free will is infringed or compromised — which just means that you are working from your heart space for the good of not only yourself but for those around you).

Putting Out The Fire Of Frustration

The stop, drop and roll system will help you to take a look outside the box and gain a better understanding of your emotions and the situation you may be finding yourself in.

When we can reconcile our feelings and look at our lives from an outsiders perspective, we can objectively find a better way to move forward.

Once we find the path we want to take it only takes some alchemy to reboot our destination.  Hold onto that final outcome in your thoughts and in your heart (feeling it as the only possible outcome and not focusing all our energy on what we don’t want to play out).
