Viva Vivaldi! Connecting Us to Intelligent Design Through Music (incl. Art Process Video)

Vivaldi Art with Cherie Roe Dirksen

Exploring Music and Tapping Into Meaning

In my previous video blogs I explored a haunting tune from Bach (view HERE) and the enticing sounds of Debussy (view HERE) through drawing to their music and seeing what emerges onto my whiteboard (including the feelings that arose).

Today, I immersed myself in the blooming, fresh sounds of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi — the Venetian Baroque composer from the 18th century.

There were several keywords that came up while I was drawing to the music:

  • Growth — the feeling of outward expansion and unstoppable life.
  • Portals — this was a strange keyword to come up but, in hindsight, I was drawing a lot of spirals which were purported to be ancient markers for portals or star-gates/wormholes. Read more about that HERE.
  • Sacred Geometrygeometric shapes and proportions found in nature believed to be the work of God. Also associated with Platonic solids and the golden means ratio (divine proportion). Related article: The Golden Ratio: Phi, 1.618
  • Flower of Life — otherwise dubbed ‘the pattern of creation’.

So, you can see there is a definite theme running here. The overall feeling I got from Vivaldi’s music was a connection to the intelligent design of the universe.

What is intelligent design?

Intelligent design is a pseudoscientific theory that some aspects of the universe and living things are best explained by an intelligent source rather than an undirected form of natural selection (as preposed by Charles Darwin).

It’s a buzz word that people use to replace the outworn version of ‘God’. I quite like it and it gives some relief to scientists who’d rather not stick their neck on the chopping block by using the G word.

It’s acronym is ID, which tickles my fancy as the word ‘id’ describes the part of the mind in which innate and instinctive impulses are manifested.

Feeling Alone in the Universe?

To conclude this prequel to my video: My gut was telling me — whilst in the process of making the video below — that if you’re feeling alone, losing your faith or connection to spirit or Source, pop on some Vivaldi! Or just go look at a flower — the Creator can be found everywhere in nature if you’re still enough and allow yourself to view the magnificence of creation.

Butterfly on White Poppy by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“The law of attraction is infallible, and every single person is getting what they are asking for, even though most of the time each person is not aware that they are asking for what they don’t want. There is such absolute beauty in the law, which is so responsive and giving in every single moment so that we can experience our lives.

The law never changes — we must learn how to live in harmony with the law. That is the greatest task for every single human being.”

Upside Down and Inside Out

Yesterday I was putting my video blog together. It’s usually a wee bit of a task and I’m prepared for that. I spent hours writing the forward blog and then got to editing and splicing the footage I’d filmed the day before.

For some strange reason, the footage came out sideways. No big deal as you can rotate it in the movie editor. My eyebrow raised. Was there some sort of hidden message in this for me today? (some of you may understand this form of questioning every nuance that is happening to you as some sort of inner reflection trying to out itself. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about — just put it down to certain madness).

I pieced the whole thing together and exported the video for YouTube. Uh…the whole thing was totally out of sync.

I went back to my editing dashboard — everything there was in total sync. Did the whole thing again. Still out of sync. I did it 3 times to no avail. My blood was boiling as I’m about to go on a trip today until Sunday and I simply don’t have time for these games.

I decided to give it a break and start my newsletter which was also due out yesterday. Another mammoth task that I don’t particularly look forward to (perhaps a clue?).

After hours of working on this, it was time to hit the send button. But what was this? My whole newsletter was suddenly out of alignment. There were boxes and sidebars in erroneous places! Oh lord!

Time to Stop, Drop and Reassess

Okay, at this point I was past mild panic and was heading straight for losing it completely. My husband reminded me to ‘take a knee’ before I blew a fuse. So I went to lie down to try and quiet the old noggin.

As I was looking up at the ceiling trying to do my breathing exercises (through flared and excited nostrils, I might add!), it hit me.

  1. I was in a hurry — I was attracting anxiety
  2. I was putting unnecessary duress on myself by demanding I complete these tasks today — attracting more stress and anxiety

Well, problem solved (almost). I was putting out general chaos and that’s what I was getting. Everything was topsy turvy thanks to me and my energy.

I had to stop and calm down before understanding what and why I was attracting mischief into my day. When I came to peace with my odd manifestations, I felt more in flow and in harmony with my projections. I accepted them and began to change the energy and move on.

After my epiphany, I sat down with my diary. I still had a couple of hours this morning to write a new blog (*a-hem*…this one), so, I reassigned the task and set my alarm to go off an hour early.

I already felt better. I had to still pack and get things ready for my trip but I did that with ease.

A Small Titbit About Synchronicity

I’m going to end this off by saying that the quote I started with came to me tsubcribe buttonhrough sheer synchronicity.

Read related article: Why You Need to Pay Attention to Synchronicity Now!

I was pondering, whilst packing, what I should write the ‘new’ blog about. I thought that maybe I should be honest and write about my little meltdown (but I thought perhaps my fiasco had the potential to bore you to tears).

I strode over to my bookshelf and ‘The Secret Daily Teachings’ lurched out at me. I picked it up and randomly opened it at the quote at the top of this article.

After reading it I started to chuckle. It was pretty much what happened to me during the course of the day and it looked like my meltdown was the very thing I needed to share with all of you upon this very morn.

I’d like to think that there must be someone out there who needed to hear this. If not, you’ve just wasted a good few minutes reading about superfluous misadventure.

Loving the Alien

My earliest memory of the legendary David Robert Jones was when my mother bought a record of his and I saw the cover (I think it was ‘Space Oddity’). I was 9 years old and fell madly in love with this androgynous, mysterious, beautiful, outrageous looking creature.

He was the poetic and rebellious inspiration I needed in my teens and I never outgrew his innovative and ground-breaking style of music. He inspired me to write, to be a musician and to be insanely weird…and proud of it.

Under Pressure

I have been practicing madly this week for a David Bowie tribute concert that I have agreed to do (I play the bass guitar) next Saturday in Cape Town. Within a couple of weeks of the show being announced it was sold out — a real testament to the popularity of this British musical icon even in the Southern most tip of Africa!

I had the privilege of seeing him live in action at Wembley Stadium, London, when he was on his ‘Reality’ tour. He was well into his 60’s at the time but his performance was monumental — an evening I shall never forget.

Rehearsing for this gig has given me a new-found respect for Mr. Bowie as his songs are some of the most complicated and difficult I’ve ever attempted. But what speaks to the soul must be pursued.

So, having Bowie on my mind — I’d like to share some zany quotes from the Thin White Duke:

  1. “I’m in awe of the universe, but I don’t necessarily believe there’s an intelligence or agent behind it. I do have a passion for the visual in religious rituals, though, even though they may be completely empty and bereft of substance. The incense is powerful and provocative, whether Buddhist or Catholic.”
  2. “I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, ‘F*ck that. I want to be a superhuman.”
  3. “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”
  4. “On the other hand, what I like my music to do to me is awaken the ghosts inside of me. Not the demons, you understand, but the ghosts.”
  5. “Don’t you love the Oxford Dictionary? When I first read it, I thought it was a really really long poem about everything.”
  6. “Speak in extremes, it’ll save you time. ”
  7. “I’m just an individual who doesn’t feel that I need to have somebody qualify my work in any particular way. I’m working for me.”
  8. “I’m a real self-educated kind of guy. I read voraciously. Every book I ever bought, I have. I can’t throw it away. It’s physically impossible to leave my hand! Some of them are in warehouses. I’ve got a library that I keep the ones I really really like. I look around my library some nights and I do these terrible things to myself–I count up the books and think, how long I might have to live and think, ‘F#ck, I can’t read two-thirds of these books.’ It overwhelms me with sadness.”
  9. When asked what the quality you most like in a man? “The ability to return books.”
  10. “You can neither win nor lose if you don’t run the race.”

Okay, no. 8 and 9 aren’t exactly THAT spiritual but I liked them anyway. Anyone with a fetish for reading and books would understand the hair-pulling anxiety of lending books.

I love no. 7 because we should all strive to please ourselves and stop trying to placate those around us forsaking our own needs and creativity. That should not be taken as a selfish thing but a self love thing. When you’re happy, you’re going to exude joy and that will affect all of those in your sphere.

Thank you, David Bowie, for all the inspiration and boundary pushing!

Need a Constant Flow of Money? I’ve Got Something For You…

Serenity by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Money, Money, Money

Oh boy, ABBA got it right — it is a rich man’s world!  Financial flow is a sticky and uncomfortable topic.  We all want a constant stream of income to live well, whatever your version of ‘well’ is.

“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.” — Ayn Rand

Personally, I care not for Porches, Gucci handbags or Mansions — I want money to travel and enjoy the finer things in life (haute cuisine, theater and Belgian chocolate are more up my alley). But no matter what you want to do with your money, we all want that financial security at the end of the day because money brings choice — the spice of life!

Even better, we want to earn this money in a capacity that fulfills us. A show of hands from all the people who want to earn cold hard cash doing what they love!

So with that in mind, I knocked up this little visual money affirmation.  I hope it helps to shift your attitude or feelings towards money. Give it a try — you’ve got nothing to lose.

“You will be a failure, until you impress the subconscious with the conviction you are a success. This is done by making an affirmation which ‘clicks.'” — Florence Scovel Shinn

After all, the sky is the limit!  We are the only ones who put restrictions on our earning capacity (ask Richard Branson).

Pin it to your vision board (I have :D), save it as a desktop wallpaper or print it out and stick it to your forehead — anything to hammer this affirmation home!

Doubting Thomas?

If you still have reservations as to the power of affirmations, I don’t blame you. I, too, struggled with just repeating phrases over and over in the hope that they would come true.

That kind of parrot fashion manifesting didn’t seem to strike a chord within me until I questioned:

  • all my inner dialogue — I got real about the thoughts I was projecting when I wasn’t in affirmation or meditation mode,
  • my feelings — were they in alignment with what I was saying or was there a tampering emotion emerging that needed to take a back seat? Aka — doing a wealth affirmation but feeling poor, and…
  • what was it I truly wanted — sometimes I would think I wanted something but probing further into my desire, there was an underlying reason for it. In other words — I wanted money only to realize I wanted to go on holiday or buy some new clothes, etc.

What Music Looks Like Header

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge” — Albert Einstein

Channeling Music into Emotive Art

Before I launch into my Bach revelation, I want to give you a little bit of background about where I’m coming from: I embarked on an auditory and visual journey in 2012. I decided to try to combine my love for music with art and subliminally paint to inspiring composers/musicians to see what would emerge onto my canvas.

Related article: 3 Ways to Tap Into the Matrix of All Possibility

I wanted to explore this realm of sound and discover why some of us are drawn to certain types of music.

I’d enter a meditative state — trying to blank out my mind with no preconceived ideas — put on the music and let it rip! What transpired since then has morphed into one of the most exciting, mind-bending trips of my life — my Rock Art Series!

You can take a peek at that HERE (each painting in the series — so far — has a start to finish photographic journal along with a written account of the emotions that arose whilst listening and painting to the music).

In a nutshell, the Rock Art Series was a project I started to probe the bands and musicians who made a huge impact on me — even from childhood. I started off my early life in a rock band as a bass guitarist and was hugely influenced by 70’s rock and the 90’s grunge period. But why?

  • Why was I drawn to their music?
  • Was there more to their music that met the ear?
  • Why did it seem to resonate with me and a handful of peeps but did not seem to impress others?

I set out to do 10 paintings (one for every band/artist). I am currently on painting no. 9 and am still as captivated by this process as the day I started the first painting.

Now, I want to take it a step further…

Air on a Heart (G) String

I want to mine the sacred sound field of classical music. There must be a plethora of hidden meanings and deeper understandings waiting to be excavated in just this one specific genre.

I started this new project off to ‘Air on a G String‘ by Bach. It was the first piece that sprang to mind as it literally creeps into my heart and starts tugging on my tear strings!

What a Feeling!

Below, you will find a video where I talk about what came up for me in this classical masterpiece AND I whip out my whiteboard and draw for you — live — to the music (okay, I’ve sped it up a little cause it took me almost an hour to complete and I thought you wouldn’t want to sit through that whole process! It’s now a neat and tidy 1:30 minutes…very palatable, darling) 😉

I have posted the end result picture beneath the video for you to download and splash with your creative genius — so dust off those coloring in pencils, crayons and pens (or just go and steal them from your kids room) and let that inner child out to play! Pop on some Bach and see what emotions arise in you (don’t forget to leave your comments in the box below).

Just to give you a little teaser, the key words/emotions that came up were:

  • Remembrance
  • Divine connection
  • Divine Flow
  • We are all connected
  • Sorrow of seeming ‘separation’
  • Joy — ‘all is well’

But before I give the entire game away, let’s take a look at the video:

Here’s the picture for you to download and color in (and if you haven’t heard of color therapy yet, read this: Colour Therapy: Taking on Modern Day Stress the Creative Way):

3 Ways to Tap Into the Matrix of All Possibility

Dreaming Collage by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration. I have not penetrated into the secrets of this core, but I know that it exists.”
Nikola Tesla

I came across the above quote on my Facebook feed this morning. It was a well-timed synchronicity as it’s a concept I’ve been mulling over the past few days.

Related article: Why Synchronicity Can Change Your Life

My ruminating was about music and the impact it has on our lives. Many musicians claim that they literally pluck songs out of the ether. I know this to be true as my husband is a musician and some of his greatest songs — he told me — were ‘given’ to him by, what Gregg Braden referred to as, the ‘Divine Matrix‘ (in his book of the same title).

The Cosmic Menu

Ideas, music, inventions, art — all these things have been known to come to creatives whilst meditating, dreaming or daydreaming. 3 really important ways of tapping into this field of potentiality is to:

  1. Meditate — surrender all thinking and let your mind take a break. See what comes up in the space between your thoughts (hint: that’s where the magic lies!).
  2. Daydream — children do it all the time and they have some pretty inventive ideas (and the most fun too)! Get into the habit of letting yourself daydream every day. Let your mind wander and see what emerges.
  3. Dream Journaling — try to make a habit of writing down your nightly sojourns in the outer realms — there could be a treasure trove of insights in there for you if you train yourself to remember your dreams. You can even declare/ask that you want to have direction/inspiration in your dreams before you turn in for the night.

Original Rehash

Tapping into the ‘matrix’ in this way also begs the question: Is anything ever original? Yes and no.

Matrix Icon

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 😀

If everything is in the ‘ether’ already (or the Mind of God or whatever other phrase rocks your boat) then nothing is original but what is original is you and your take on it.

You’re a ‘one of a kind’ — as unique as your fingerprints. So when the ‘quantum muse in the sky’ selects you to manifest a creative package, you will channel the information through your unique experiences/soul/spirit and give the world a truly unoriginal original 🙂

Of course, there are many musicians (or people who call themselves such) who channel nothing of the sort. This goes for any genre really — there are a few artistic duds coming directly from the ego and being controlled by the head not the heart.

“Music isn’t something to think about, at least initially. Eventually it’s got to cover the spectrum, but especially with rock ‘n’ roll, first it has to touch you somewhere else. It could be the groin; it could be the heart; it could be the guts; it could be the toes. It’ll get to the brain eventually. The last thing I’m thinking about is the brain. You do enough thinking about everything else.”Keith Richards in an interview about songwriting

7 Ways You Can Conquer Stress

Stewing in Your Juices

I’m normally quite a chilled person. Nothing phases me. Until…

  • I take on too much work
  • I get into my ‘yes’ mode and make arrangements and dates that clog my diary
  • I volunteer my services willy-nilly
  • My housework starts to mount
  • My ‘to do’ list grows around the garden (especially as I’m trying to do the whole sustainability thing)
  • I have awesome ideas but have to implement them (adding to the head clutter and time/schedule disaster)

I’m sure you can probably relate to most of the above. Then what happens is that chilled out person who thought they could take on the world in a heart beat starts to panic.

Related article: Feeling Stressed? 10 Natural Alternatives To Prescription Anti-Anxiety Drugs

The Signs of a Meltdown

The walls of my diary close in and anxiety starts to rear its ugly head.

  • Panic attacks
  • Sweaty palms
  • Emotional outbursts (usually involving tears)
  • Temper whirlwinds
  • Depression
  • Feeling defeated and impotent
  • Losing it over the smallest things

We can experience the above on a smaller or larger scale, depending on the level of anxiety and what looms ahead.

Okay, so what can be done?

Anxiety Be Gone!

Well, I’m trying to give myself a well-deserved pep talk here ’cause I suddenly realized the other day that I was slipping off the cliff of the ‘work’ I had piled up.

Amid my darkest moment, I came to the conclusion that it was going to be done whether I fretted about it or not. And what couldn’t be done was just not going to be done. It’s really quite simple.

So, on a practical level, try to:

  1. Get what’s in your head down onto paper (this works a treat!)
  2. Now you can make a priority list
  3. Schedule your time wisely and you’ll find you can fit a lot into your day
  4. Don’t stress about how much you’ve got to do by getting tangled up in the future tasks — concentrate on the task at hand
  5. Read no. 4 again.
  6. Yip…read no. 4 and 5 again!
  7. As Yoda said, ‘Do or do not’ — in this context, do what you must do and stop whinging about it. Have you ever stopped to think how much time we waste worrying or bitching about what we have to do instead of doing it?
How to handle stress

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it 🙂

Example: I have a mountain of clothes to pack away. Every morning I get up and look at this mountain and feel despair. It affects me greatly. I don’t like a messy bedroom — that’s where I’m supposed to go to relax, not stare at a heap of rags.

What not to do: Whine about the job. Look at the heap in deflated impotence. Complain about how much other stuff you have to do. Sit and have a cup of coffee and catch up on your Facebook feed. Or, in my case, write a blog about it, whilst — out of the corner of my eye — I can see into my bedroom and the washing pile is staring happily back at me.

Solution: Do it. A 5 minute rant could have you half way done by now. You can have that cuppa AND pack the washing away (what a novel idea!).

There is actually plenty of time in a day when you use it wisely. The above example is small fish compared to some of the whoppers we have to face in life and prepare for. However, inevitably, we are remarkable creatures with an ability to squeeze a lot into our lives when our minds are prepared well enough.

Let’s go back to no. 4, 5 and 6 of the tips list. This tip has helped me exponentially over the past few days. I’m a Virgo and a control freak. When my schedule starts mounting up and I feel like I’m losing control — it’s a blood bath! I have the tendency of looking ahead at what I have to do tomorrow, the next day and so on into infinity. This makes matters worse.

All we have to concentrate on is what lays before us today. You can deal with tomorrow, well, tomorrow! If it’s really a pickle, then set aside 10-15 minutes of today to work out a game-plan for tomorrow so you can at least get some sleep.

If there is ever something to remember about anxiety it’s this: one step at a time! You’re amazing and you’ll do it all, only if you tackle what’s in front of you now. As my dear mother used to say, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’.

And now for something completely different…a little humour to liven up your stress monster:

3 Valuable Understandings to Help You Kick Fear Addiction

Dangerous Love by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt

Creeping in Through the Cracks

Fear is a mighty strong emotion. It could be said to be the driving force behind our collective impotence.

Why does it have so much force in our lives?

It get’s flung at us constantly via the media — TV, movies, adverts, the general public, etc.

And when we’re not ‘out in the world’ overhearing all the crime statistics and getting fed bad news from people on the street, we rush home to fall into the escapism of our daily Facebook feed because there’s nothing there to be fearful of, right?

Wrong! We get a slipstream of everything that’s messed up in the world (barring, of course, those sweet little kitty meme’s and quirky quote feeds — although even those are starting to take their toll on social media addicts).

One has even come to fear the next ‘Be Like Bob’ post or cradle in terror at the thought of another cat in a pot photo. All jokes aside…

Getting Down and Dirty

We need to take responsibility for what we give our attention to and for how we allow, yes allow, the media to manipulate our emotions and pervade the airwaves with such repugnant negativity.

We are the ones giving credence to and creating our own fears — we can literally asphyxiate ourselves with things to fret or find fear about.

Every time you give into fear you feed negativity and give it more power. Fear is a choice, like it or not.

The Different Types of Fear

There are, of course, many different types of fear but they are all grounded in the act of giving your power away.

When we come up against fear, we are presented with a chance to be aware, brave and face up to it.  Get to the nitty-gritty and uncover the truth about why we are so afraid or uncomfortable (i.e. the fear of heights/snakes/natural disasters/terrorism/clowns/Uncle Sam/Aunt Betty/’fill in the blank’).

When we mine ourselves for the ‘why’s’ and ‘what-have-you’s’ of our own fears, we can face them and move through them.

If there is nothing we can do but send our love, compassion, empathy or prayers to a fearful situation, then do that! Stop giving rise to a tidal wave of negative emotions.

Either do something about your fear (fight or flight), make an effort to get to the bottom of why you feel a certain way (be it through meditation, inner-examination, therapy, etc) or stop thinking about it — turn your thoughts around!

What you think about you bring about — your attention, good or bad — always feeds the probability giving it more gusto. So stop gusting away at those fearful ruminations!

Incapacitating Fear

In order to work fear back into the light, we need to find its polar opposite — LOVE.  When you inject love into fear it evaporates — it has no stronghold in the presence of love.

But how does one start projecting love when ones knees are knocking?

Well, let’s address what is called heart-centered living — I’m sure you’ve all probably heard that word by now.  People are throwing it about a lot these days (including me — guilty as charged!). As airy-fairy and lace-clad as heart-centered living may seem — there is a nugget of gold in the finding!

Quickening the Heart

When you work through your heart, based primarily upon how you are feeling about something (as opposed to working through your mind and how you think about something), you are guided by a more truthful resonance of picking up subtle nuances from your surroundings rather than being directed by what reason dictates.

So even though we are in need of our minds and pensiveness, we have been dominated by left-brain thinking for centuries.  A shift is occurring, not to totally disregard our thoughts but to channel through the heart and then process through the mind.  In other words, not just to go straight to the head and bypass our hearts or how we are feeling intuitively.

Rationality can be useful but it has, in some cases, left our instinctive abilities to wither in its stoic presence.  Sometimes our ‘logic’ has actually hindered our bliss. This could be because ‘society dictates otherwise’ or ‘the norm is to be…’  — well, be careful of whose ‘norm’ you are conceding to.

It’s that age old conflict between science and spirituality (left-brain versus right-brain) — the solution to which is using both in balance.

Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.” — Dorothy Thompson

3 Key factors to transmute fear are remembering to:

1. Spend Your Emotions Wisely

Don’t buy into fear.  Think of all the things you have feared in the past — did any of those worries come true?  If yes, did you survive it?  I take it you did if you are reading this.  The energy or vibration of fear draws that which you worry about into your life.  Have you ever been with someone who is not afraid of dogs but you are.  When a dog comes running at you both, it goes for you, my sweaty-palmed friend, not your companion! Why?  Animals, as you probably know, can sense fear — so can the universe and the universe is impartial.  It acquiesces to what it thinks you desire via your frequency output.  If your emotions are dialed into fear, expect life to become frightening.  The only thing you should fear is fear itself (thanks, President Roosevelt!).

2. Know That Love Conquers All

Get used to being tuned into your feelings and steering them to safer shores.  When you are in fear, inject some love into your aura by thinking of someone you love, your favorite pet, the infectious chuckle of your child or grandchild or a blissful memory. Change your vibration! This is how you get to expand on the feeling of love in the face of fear.  Show fear that you have too much love in your heart.  Fear is a mental construct in the absence of love.  Trust your instincts and obey your heart. Send love and compassion to all those who suffer or who are in situations you fear to be in. Even send love to the perpetrators of heinous crimes. Why? Because you won’t solve hate by chucking more venom at a situation. When you can send love to the victims and perpetrators alike, you are diffusing the energy and making a space for healing and learning to occur. The perpetrators of violent crimes will not ‘get better’ with negativity, hateful thoughts or jail sentences (that is not to say that they shouldn’t have to ‘pay’ for their crimes — we all have to face the music for our actions) but, in sending love and compassion, there may be a glimmer of hope that they will have a true awakening to spirit and show remorse or have a change of heart.

3. Take Control

Short, sweet and to the point.  If you want to be self-empowered then the first things you need are awareness and the ability to take responsibility for your actions.  These two fundamental principles are gateways for you to realize your inherent potential.  You are a co-creator, take responsibility for that and take control from this point onwards.

Let’s Talk About Green Stuff — It May Not Be What You Think!

Keepers of the Wood

Green is the New Black

When I say ‘let’s talk about the green stuff?’ what does your mind spring to?

  • money? Show me the bunce?
  • marijuana? Totally far out dude…
  • sustainable living — doing your reduced carbon footprint kind-of-thang, all cool and hippy like? Or
  • jealousy? The green-eyed, envy monster awaiting in each of us like Mr Hyde or our own personal Hulk.

Well, cast aside all the above notions because I want to talk about pure green.

Going for Gold

I remember an old British TV comedy series called Blackadder. One character, Lord Percy, decides to try his hand at alchemy (you know, making gold out of base metal). He manages to fashion something he called ‘pure green’. Lord Blackadder — who was broke and rather counting on Percy’s success — was utterly disappointed when, after being told by Percy that he was triumphant in his pursuit, his eyes fell on the green stone and not a nugget of gold.

My written reenactment has not done the actual comedy moment any good, I fear, but the point I’m trying to make is we do have something in our world that is better than gold. And, as Lord Percy discovered inadvertently, it is green.

The colour of nature.

Why is Green So Important?

Why do you feel more relaxed in a park? Or on top of a mountain? Or lying under a tree on a bed of green grass? Why does the sight of green rolling hills peek every poet and artists interest? Why are we drawn to green? Would it be as effective if it was red? Doubt it. Nature knows what she’s doing and here’s why:

The colour green is associated with:

  • Balance

It is the center colour of the spectrum (look up a rainbow and see for yourself!) — being in perfect balance even there! It is associated with abundance (lack of famine), water and everything plentiful on a primitive level.

The colour psychologically effects us all.

It is also a hue that is connected to:

  • positivity,
  • harmony,
  • refreshment,
  • universal love (it is the colour of our heart chakra),
  • rest and restoration,
  • reassurance and
  • peace.

Say NO to the Brain Fog!

Going Green

Did you like this article? Don’t forget to pin it! 🙂

Most of us are subject to sitting behind a computer screen or desk getting very little to no time in nature. Electronic devices and the addiction to social media is clogging our airwaves (both physically and mentally).

This leads to brain fog, stress, anxiety and a host of other things.

We are being disconnecting from our very source — nature and the balance, peace and harmony it brings.

Related article: 8 Natural Stress Relievers For More Peace & Calm

There is light at the end of the tunnel though because just spending 15 minutes out in nature will make a difference to your mind, body and soul. Obviously, the more time you spend in nature the better it is.

Try it and see for yourself. If you’re feeling stressed out, go sit under a tree or take a walk in a park — or even just stare out at some treetops (best done outdoors though for the fresh air effect). Focus your gaze upon the green you see, try to put your attention on how you feel when you take it all in. Can you feel a drop in tension within your body?

The green we find in nature is meant to be our own personal therapy — go out and use it wisely whenever you see a gap!

The Law of Giving and Receiving

“Giving opens the way for receiving.” — Florence Scovel Shinn

Deepak Chopra wrote a book that changed my life forever.

I stumbled upon it very early on in my quest for spiritual truth — it’s called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.

Now I know most of you have probably read it or heard of it (if you haven’t yet put eyeballs to paper/kindle yet I strongly urge you to do so) but I wanted to briefly recap on Law no. 2, seeing it is the season of giving and receiving.

Deepak states that the flow of life is the harmony of interaction between all elements and forces that make up the field of existence. Because our mind and body are in constant flux (as is the universe), stopping the circulation of vital energy would be tantamount to stopping the flowing of our blood.

No blood flow = blood clot.

His conclusion was that in order to keep this vital chi force from stagnating we must learn to give and receive. So whatever you are wanting to manifest in life — be it good company, money, affluence, love, joy, etc — that is what we must give out into the world.

Easier Said Than Done?

A lot of people have no problem giving — it is the receiving part that most shudder at.

Perhaps we were taught that receiving was impolite and we should graciously decline offerings of any sort. Or,  maybe some think that if someone is trying to give us something it appears that we are lacking in some way. Therefore we shun the gift so as not to look needy or ‘down and out’.

This is an ego trap.

When you block someone from giving, you are stopping that vital energetic exchange from circulating. How would you feel if your gifts weren’t received?

It gives most of us great joy to be able to give, so why stop that joy from others? Allow other people to give to you or you may be hampering their ability to be in the universal flow.

Don’t be blood-clotting anybody, you hear?!

How Do I Start Today to Bring the Flow into My Life?

According to the book (7 Spiritual Laws of Success), when you come into contact with anyone, you give them something. This doesn’t have to be material things, it could be a blessing, a flower, a sincere compliment, etc. You’ll find that sometimes the most powerful gestures of giving are non-material (you can occasionally throw in something of a material nature too though).

Putting It to the Test

I’d like to demonstrate this with a recent experience of mine. I had my 9 year old niece and nephew (they’re twins) come stay with us for a couple of days. We live out in the country, so there are no such things as malls or cinemas (which these children are accustomed to where they come from).

I decided to devote all the time in those two days to these beautiful children in the form of picnicking at our local waterfall and swimming in the mountain pass to mingling with the community at our village’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and coloring in with them on the dining room table.

All these activities cost little to no money but they had my attention and we had a ball! The children kept on saying to me how much they loved being in nature and were taken aback at the beauty of the countryside and all the things it had to offer.

I could see they were genuinely happy and delighted in jumping off rocks into mountains streams and walking along babbling brooks to follow the trails of our magnificent red and blue dragonflies.

It dawned on me in that moment that giving your attention and new experiences to others can be more impactful than a trip to see the latest movie or a burger and milkshake at the local diner.

In a Roasted Nutshell…

Don’t underestimate the power of giving as you will receive it back ten fold! Just keep that flow going and be aware every time you feel you want to decline a gift or gesture — try remember to allow for others to give as well.

Love vs Fear: Which One Are You Going To Let Win?

HeartShaped Love by Cherie Roe Dirksen

No More Unconscious Creating

We are now firmly rooted in a new consciousness on Earth. As awesome as boldly going where no man has gone before is, we still have a major topic we need to address – fear.

In the absence of love we are left with fear. It’s as simple as: no light = dark.

When we no longer trust our instincts we give in to fear.  You can see fear as an illusion and only becomes a perceived reality when you let it become real for you.

Illusion versus Perceived Reality

To illustrate this point, lets take the illusory nature of assumption (for more about assumption, CLICK HERE).

When you assume something  you do not possess all the facts or truth of the matter at hand.  When you form an idea of what is happening you are assuming (which is an illusory concept).

Then when your assumption has rooted itself in your psyche as the truth, you give it form and this can lead either to the creation of your assumption or the suffering of your ego based on the assumption.  And all this was made possible through an illusion.

“When you worry about something you are future-projecting a negative outcome. “

Fear works in much the same way.  Worry is a form of fear that most of us are altogether too familiar with.  When you worry about something you are future-projecting a negative outcome.

Related article: Love Is Stronger than Fear: 6 Ways Americans Are Defying Islamaphobia

Sometimes the situations we worry about never come to pass.  Worry is an illusion. As the famous saying goes, worry only robs you of your present joy.

When I talk about the NOW or present moment awareness, I am referring to the point of acceptance that one arrives at when there is an absence of fear.  There are many roads that take you to fear such as worry, anxiety, stress, panic, anger, resentment, revenge, etc but they all are rooted in fear.

So, succinctly, fear is the root on the scale of negativity.  The opposite of fear would be love.

Good Ol’ Gushy Love

The emotions that lead you to love are joy, happiness, elation, bliss, mirth, laughter, etc and these are all rooted in love.  The ultimate root on the scale of positivity.  The light and dark aspects of existence.

Without either of these perspectives we would live a very dull life.  We need a basis of comparison, in other words, how would you know not to put your hand in the fire if you had never been burnt.

How would you know just how perfect your body felt if you hadn’t had that painful full-body, extra strength Thai sports massage?

“If you choose to let fear take a back seat you will see the world open up to you in ways you never imagined.”

We need comparisons to ascertain what we do want.

Fear is generally not wanted but it certainly gains momentum — it’s a tricky little blighter.  The thing is, and always will be, are you aware?

When you can become aware of your fears you can deal with them.  If you are playing the victim role, then perhaps you are quite content to be in a cocoon of misery – the choice remain yours.

  • Do you want this?
  • Is there a better way?

There is always choice and we are always co-creating our lives.  If you choose to let fear take a back seat you will see the world open up to you in ways you never imagined.

When you can master how you spend your energy and who you spend it on, you won’t allow yourself to be sucked into the various dramas that people create.  When you no longer fear living, you will begin to truly live in a way that embraces every moment.

Be Free

True freedom can only be found on the path that leads to the root of love — the knowing that all is well and the trusting that the universe is organized and you are a part of that.

“We all need to have our eyes wide open to what we are manifesting and creating on a day-to-day, if not minute-to-minute, basis. “

Look out into the universe.  Can you see how there is structure in everything out there?  There is the cycle of life, death and even a bit of chaos thrown in-between but there always seems to be an order and organization to the universe itself.

Planets aren’t shaped like bananas or cubes, they are round (or at least they were when I wrote this).  Most of them are in orbit around a sun.

There are, of course, some free-for-alls that do not have a sun to orbit and drift through space but what a wonderful metaphor for how some of us feel!  You know, the macrocosm reflecting the microcosm and vice versa.

Bashing Fear on the Nose

Fear is something that we all deal with daily.  No matter what label you put on the emotion – if it is negative or coming from a lower vibration, it boils down to fear.  We now need to march straight up to it and bash it on the nose.

“Everything you experience is a manifestation of your thought.”

There is no more time for unconscious creating in this world.

Related article: Consciousness Creates Reality: New Thoughts = New Action = New Life

We all need to have our eyes wide open to what we are manifesting and creating on a day-to-day, if not minute-to-minute, basis.

Everything you experience is a manifestation of your thought.  Everything from the bird in the tree that is singing to the cup of coffee that sits next to you.

Most people just think about manifestations as being on the bigger scale.  ‘Oh, I know I manifested that really needy relationship’ or ‘Yes, I acknowledge that I my anger could have caused the accident’ but do we really consider even the smallest of creations.  If not, you should – because there is no chance in our world – everything is co-created and manifested through collective or individual consciousness.

Hard pill to swallow?  Good!  Nothing worth knowing comes to you on a silver platter.

Fear not, all is well.

Dangerous Illusions: Why Time Should Be Replaced

Reaching Out by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“I must govern the clock, not be governed by it.” — Golda Meir

Passing the Time

I was listening to a Dolores Cannon lecture yesterday (read more about her extraordinary life and her sad passing HERE), she said some profound things. One, however, really stuck out for me.

Time does not exist.

Yeah, I know that’s nothing new or revelationary but it’s still a hard concept to grapple with for most.

I mean who doesn’t wish for time to simply cease chiming away?

We’d all be youthful (no time, no age!) and less stressed or anxious as we wouldn’t have to scuttle about meeting our daily, hectic schedules. Let’s face it, we’d be able to fit a lot more into our lives without time because we wouldn’t have that sword of Damocles hanging over our head in the form of a ticking pendulum!

Set it to the Clock

On the other hand, time can be a great way to keep appointments. There’s nothing more exasperating than someone arriving late for a date! Time helps us to organize ourselves and to not waste…well…err…other peoples time.

You can also use a timer to boil an egg — another handy way to use ‘time’. The list could go on and I do get that time keeping can be an extraordinary useful tool. However, the emphasis is on tool, not fact.

Time — all our watches and clocks — is nothing more than a tool. There is no clock in the sky.

I know Einstein spoke about time being the 4th dimension and it is scientifically taken as such, however, I find it’s an iffy topic for me simply because it’s still a man-made construct.

Time is still an illusion. The planets, sun, solar system, galaxies and such are all on a course and that course has structure and dependability but ‘time’ isn’t real. Hence why some people still work on different calendars.

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.” — Albert Einstein

But what if everything is all happening at once? I don’t mean to lay into poor Einstein ’cause I think he was brilliant but we do have to question certain things or, at least, rethink what they mean and how much power we give that meaning.

We as human beings, have taken time on too literally or, should I say, linearly. Dolores Cannon went on to say that, in her many case studies, she was told that we are the only planet that observes time. We’re kind of a cosmic joke. Binding ourselves to it’s influence and rigidity.

They say that when we get rid of the concept of time, we will finally be able to travel interstellar! Well on that note, I’m ready to throw my time piece in!!!

Metaphors About Time

We’ve been told that you can liken time to a circle – never ending, never beginning.

Some say time is like a layered cake. You are experiencing your current moment as the top layer but if you cut into the cake you’ll see all the many other layers (points in time or other lifetimes) on top of each other — still there and existing.

I’ve heard great analogies of time being like a DVD. You can watch the story from start to finish and you can skip around the chapters and scenes at any point you wish, which is why some philosophers claim you could — theoretically speaking (although many people have already experienced this in dreams, altered states and in meditation) — visit the past and future.

It all sounds fabulous but my a-ha moment is still to come…

The Penny Drops…

It’s so simple, it’s maddening.

In the lecture I mentioned at the beginning of this article, it was said that we should stop using the word ‘time’ and replace it with ‘event’.

Huh? Is that it?

Yes, but it’s so acutely concise. Instead of referring to points in time, we should refer to them as events. Because time actually doesn’t exist but events do.

Meet the Astral Traveler

Say you can astral travel. You astral travel back in ‘time’ to your 13th birthday party. That party is still happening as an ongoing event — think of time as that layered cake example. You could even speak to yourself in ‘real time’ — in other words you are having a conversation with your pubescent self.

You would probably get back to your present moment and then suddenly remember the conversation you had with this ‘spirit being’ (who was actually you from the future) when you were 13 years old and this event will catch up with you in your present (lol…it’s a mind bender alright!!!).

You have now entered a new timeline from that specific event.

Say the same astral traveler decided to go further back in history to visit Beethoven. He sees this German composer working hard at his grand piano. He takes a peak over Ludwig’s shoulder and notices he’s writing Symphony no. 5!

The astral traveler is actually witnessing ‘history’ which would be Beethoven’s present moment.

This specific event is taking place on the 31st December 1804 and it is still happening today in the layer of that cake.

We’ll Get There — Give it Time…Not!

I think the moment we all agree as a collective to disband time, we will open ourselves up to a higher consciousness experience of life on this planet.

Right this moment, people all around the globe are channeling entities from our past, present and future (some even claim to be us in this future) — and is this so hard to believe?

Can we perhaps even change the past if we wanted to? Rewrite history? Align ourselves with different timelines and change tracks? Have we done this already? I don’t see why not.

You wouldn’t even know if it had been done anyway. For all you know time has been changed and Hitler didn’t win the war (yes, you read right — in the first version of history he could have successfully won WW2 and started his global NWO — we could all be sporting interesting mustaches this Movember on that timeline)!

Time Icon

Did you enjoy this article? Don’t forget to ‘pin’ it 😀

Dolores Cannon speaks of nexus points (in her conversations with Nostradamus) and these are unchangeable events in history. In other words, Hitler is probably a nexus point. Meaning his birth will always be an event (or he will always be born in that point in time) but the many timelines that run from that nexus point are mutable.

Related article: Dolores Cannon – 5D Earth is Here!

It’s time to broaden our minds and throw out what doesn’t serve us anymore. I think time might be on my list, how about you?

I’d like to end off on a humourous note — a witty quote by that Irish comedian, Dylan Moran:

“People will kill you. Over time. They will shave out every last morsel of fun in you with little, harmless sounding phrases that people use every day, like: ‘Be realistic!'”

How to Lose Friends and Generally Alienate People

Boat on a Lake

Green-Eyed Monsters Are Not Purely Sci-Fi

Allow me to ignite this article with a bang-on quote by Robert A. Heinlein:

“A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity.”

Let’s just bask in that wisdom for a second. Aaah…can’t you just feel the truth of that seeping into your bones?

Common Jealousy — Get Yourself a Shovel!

Boy meets girl, boy goes out with girl, boy sees girl getting other boy attention and *bang* — the green-eyed monster rears its ugly, nobbled head.

Boy becomes possessive over girl, boy doesn’t want girl to so much as look at other boys, boy is digging grave.

But what would make this boy decide to excavate his own resting place? Eventually (if girl has any self-esteem) he will lose girl and alienate friends/people in the vicinity of the jealousy boxing ring.

I’ve seen it happen time and time again. The thing is as simple as Robert said in that deliciously succinct opening quote: Insecurity.

A person who is truly okay with who they are — and has a decent amount of self love (Read related article: Do You Feel Worthless? 2 Reasons Why You Need to Love YOU), self respect and dignity — is secure from within (their green-eyed ghoul has turned into a lovable pup!).

Coping Strategies

Therefore when you encounter someone with jealousy issues, try not to get your back up — have a little compassion for where they’re at. It is a reflection of extreme low self-esteem and insecurity within themselves that makes them act out in such a manner.

However, in saying that, it is also not healthy to remain in a relationship/friendship or situation where someone is showing signs of jealousy. It’s not acceptable behavior and the person should either take responsibility for their emotions or you should walk away.

It’s alright to gently point out to the person that their behavior is not appropriate and if they can’t sort it out they should think of taking a break to meditate or seek counseling about their lack of self esteem.

Sometimes the jealous person may indeed be on the receiving end of a partner who is not worthy of their love and trust. That is why jealous people tend to have worth issues because no self-respecting person would remain in any kind of relationship if it didn’t serve them to do so.

Hidden Jealousy — Cloak and Daggers!

I was treated to a character recently — let’s call him Barry for convenience — who, after many various encounters, I realized was neurotically insecure.

The way Barry chose to voice his jealousy was through insulting every man, woman and child who had the misfortune to cross his path.

For all intents and purposes, he was quite charming and nice but soon after 10 minutes of banter Barry would pass a flippant, neatly packaged, gob-smacking insult to a passing stranger — very passive aggressive, darling!

This would inevitably make me feel uncomfortable and I would ask him if such behavior was necessary to which he always had some kind of justification.

Now this is not typical jealousy aimed at one person, Barry was just generally in contempt with the world!

His jealousy was boundless. It soon became apparent that he was envious of certain traits in others — be it their youth, money, relationships, status — it didn’t matter! Barry was on the warpath! And jealousy was the fuel to launch his arsenal of verbal insults.

His cover story was that he spoke ‘the truth’. So, basically, if someone did not meet his standard of beauty/intelligence/morals, etc. he would let them know because it is alright to do so (in his mind).

Here’s where we run into a problem. We currently have over 7.3 billion versions of the truth on the planet as I type this!

Everyone has their own version of what true is and that’s okay! Life would be pretty baa-baa-boring if we all thought the same and became neat and tidy sheeple.

Back to Barry (and any other characters out there that need to hear this):

You need to ask yourself 3 questions when you open your mouth to speak the ‘truth’:

  • It may be true but is it necessary?
  • It may be true but is it kind?
  • It may be true but am I only saying it to make myself feel better (and therefore making a total prat out of myself)?

You see, I think Barry is on a constant insult loop because of his own insecurities. He has to constantly put other people down in order for him to feel slightly better (which doesn’t last long anyway!).

Find out what's at the root of jealousy...click on picture

Don’t forget to pin this article 🙂

Any self-respecting person doesn’t need to put others down — they have accepted who they are and feel good about themselves, there is no need to be unkind. Hurting others doesn’t even cross their minds. They are impeccable with their word because they know about the smoky mirror! (Read more about that here: 4 Reasons to Entice You to Quit Drama).

Endings and Beginnings

So, above are two examples of how to lose friends and alienate people. If you’re the jealous type, I beg you to work on your own self-esteem and self-love — it will strengthen your foundation and ability to make lasting relationships without fear of losing the ones you love.

Learn to love yourself — people are attracted to confidence and respect (you don’t have to be a super model to be attractive, you just have to be your authentic self).

And for those of you who are on the receiving end of a green-eyed monster — run (or e-mail this article to them and then run)! I hear Italy is nice this time of year.

Dining on a Rancid Take-Out Menu?

As society and the media pumps out more pandemonium, bedlam, jiggery-pokery and mayhem for our global dining-room table consumption, one wonders just how much more one can take?

The ways we cope and react are numerous. One can spontaneously break out into interpretive dance (as mentioned in my recent ‘heart talk’ article, which you may find interesting — READ HERE), churn out a few Shakespearian sonnets, join one’s local Hare Krishna movement or go and make like an ostrich (only to name a few saucy coping-mechanisms!).

Dust Off Your Head — You’re Needed!

It’s no small wonder that my close group of friends (and officially me too after last night) are all having the same dreams — unfortunately, that of the ‘end of days’ scenario with those four epic horsemen!

I mean WTF(udge)? The battle for middle earth has begun (Tolkien was way ahead of his time)!

Can you feel it? Yeah, I know a lot of you will say that people have been predicting the apocalypse since the dawn of mankind and naught has happened yet but, seriously, there is something up of late. And I know it’s not just me who’s feeling it.

Has the battle betwixt good and evil reached a climactic pinnacle? If so, whose side will fall?

Okay, this is where you come in…

What Can I Do?

In the throes of mass panic, fear, galvanization and all the rest of it, you can be that still presence.

There are 2 things you can adopt when you feel you’re in the middle of something chaotic:

  1. Be Aware — drop into your heart space (read more about ‘Heart Wisdom’ HERE). Instead of spontaneously bursting out into reaction, take a knee (even if it has to be a quick one!). Centre yourself and see things for what they are. If you can react from your heart instead of sweeping fear or anger, you are opening a space for resolve or balance even if you can’t see it yet.
  2. Be Calm — energy compounds energy. If you react with more chaotic, aggressive, panic-stricken energy you are not helping, you are adding fuel to the fire. If you can act with calm, balanced, centered energy you may just be able to dissolve some of the chaos and be the watering can to those licking flames.

Chaos PinNow, if you’re able to use the above-mentioned traits, you will be in a space where you can be of more help than if you were to become erruptively reactive. When you are reactive without these 2 attributes you will more likely cause more chaos than help to bring about any kind of reconciliation or balance.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing erroneous about taking action in a situation — just be equipped with a calm awareness firmly tucked under your coping-strategy belt.

Your ability to remain calm and aware will be key to bringing about a new consciousness movement.

Do You Feel Worthless? 2 Reasons Why You Need to Love YOU

Self Love Mirror Image

What’s the Deal with Self Love?

Self-love is the source of all our other loves.” — Pierre Corneille

Healthy self love is not narcissistic or egotistical — let’s just get that out the way first off. Some people immediately associate self love with selfishness or egotism — it is neither.

To love yourself is as important as breathing — without it your cup is empty and you can’t truly love or give of yourself if you’re an empty vessel, now can you?

Meet Jane…

Jane is a vibrant and gifted woman. Jane is also a people pleaser. She spent over 10 years in a dead end relationship with John because she didn’t want to leave him.

Why?

She didn’t want to hurt his feelings.

Wow.

When I questioned Jane about why she hadn’t thought of her own happiness in this equation, she said that she ‘didn’t matter’. She went on to say that she has tried to placate all the people in her life because she wants to ‘keep the peace’ and not ‘rock the boat’.

Jane also divulged that when she was younger she was taught to be selfless and giving and that if she didn’t adhere to these principles she wouldn’t go to heaven.

I think the most important thing in life is self-love, because if you don’t have self-love, and respect for everything about your own body, your own soul, your own capsule, then how can you have an authentic relationship with anyone else?” — Shailene Woodley

So as we started unraveling the complicated tapestry of Jane’s self worth and self love issues, we started getting towards the crux: Jane believed that God wanted her to be self-sacrificing otherwise she wasn’t worthy of His/Her love.

What complete and utter balderdash!

Thing is, a lot of people still believe this to be true and I think it’s the complete opposite. You are a worthy and lovable creation of the creator and deserve as much love and respect as every other beautiful being.

You’ve got to get with the divine program and start turning that love dial to full tilt on the inside!

Unscrambling the Concept of Self-Sacrifice

Here’s why I don’t think it’s healthy to be self-sacrificing:

  • 2 Good Reasons
Don’t forget to ‘Pin’ this article 🙂

When you have regard for other peoples feelings that is great — it’s called empathy/ compassion/tact/kindness — nothing wrong with those traits. But when you do this with no regard for yourself you are, in fact, going against your own principles. Why? Because you are a person too…duh! Did you ever stop to think that you — a shard of the divine in carnation — are doing an injustice to a human being (your very own self!)?

  • When you decide to be in ‘service to others’ instead of ‘service to self’ (this is where egotism and narcissism reign supreme) it is a most noble and amazing thing but you need to be included in that service. It is completely contradictory to abuse your own rights and feelings in order to help others. In fact, you cannot truly give of yourself if you have no self love or sense of self worth.

If you need a bit of help with getting over societal conditioning and not giving a damn about what other people think of you so you can clear a path to self love, give this article a once over: 8 Tips on How to Stop Caring What Other People Think of You

Conclusion: if we all learned to love ourselves more we’d have world peace. Give it a shot.

5 Tips to Get You Living the Dream!

Need Some New Direction?

Are you tired of the same old same old? Do you feel your life needs new lift and you know it? Thing is, how do you go about creating a strategy to implement a new idea or goal and stick to it?

We often know exactly what we want but have no idea how to get there. If you don’t already know what you want to see change in your life, then read this related article: Dr Wayne Dyer: Your Purpose Will Find You

Now for those of you who are ready to revamp and remodel your life, here are some tips to get you started on a fresh game-plan and it’s really easy to follow:

  1. Plot and Plan

Once you have an idea/dream/goal you’ll need something that will be in your face every day reminding you of where you’re heading and this is where a vision board or whiteboard comes in to save the day!  If you’re compiling a vision board (which is the best tool to keep you in alignment with your goal), then make sure the end game is on there — don’t fuss too much over how you’re going to get there. As long as you have direction, synchronicity will guide the way (read more about SYNCHRONICITY here: Why Sychronicity Can Change Your Life). Using synchronicity and your innate wisdom will guide you to take the appropriate action at the right time and get you into that slipstream in the quickest way possible. The best place to have your vision board is on your fridge, office space or the back of your bathroom door, where you are guaranteed to visit daily and have the plan etched into the back of your eyeballs.  Or be lazy like me and create a vision board on your computer then use it as a desktop background — another guarantee that you will see it every day.

  1. Plausibility
Living the Dream

Don’t forget to add this to your Pinterest board!

The quickest way to fall off that goal bandwagon is by setting unrealistic goals. Start with small, baby steps to your destination.  Draw up a list and if there is too much on the list, narrow it down to the top 3 achievable goals for this day/month/year.  You can always put the leftovers on your next list of goals. Mapping this out should be fun not exhausting — don’t tire yourself out before you’ve even begun. So, for example, you want to manifest a farm in the country but you’re still staying with your parents. Instead of drawing sweat-beads in the effort of manifesting a smallholding, try first to manifest a stepping stone —  perhaps a comfortable apartment? I’m not saying you shouldn’t reach for the stars, what I’m saying is that manifesting your dreams takes believability and that is unique to every individual. So if you’re new at this or things haven’t worked out in the past, try to set your goals within a realistic framework and you can always work your way up that ladder! Goals are not set in stone, they are mutable and if you change your mind — there is nothing wrong with changing tracks. Keep that list well dusted!

  1. Inject it with Zest

Make your new desire map fun.  If you want to change your eating habits and get slim and healthy, find a way to make it a stimulating change by jazzing up your menu/grocery list and looking forward to your meal instead of planning a drab and monotonous repast plan.  Dance in the kitchen while you cook! If you want to find a fresh, purposeful and electrifying job, have fun reinventing yourself and what you stand for — if you want an exciting job, excite yourself first.  Make damn sure you’re as exciting as the job you’re after. Savvy?

  1. Feel It, Baby!

There’s no way to bypass this one — you really do have to feel what you’re trying to bring into your experience. If you want to be lighter — you’ve got to feel it within first.  Do you want an inspiring job?  Set fire to your sense of self — ignite and burn bright! If you feel like you can’t then pretend. Pretend until it becomes second nature to feel it.  You’ll begin to rewire your brain to think differently through repetition.  Remember:  Doubt = drought.  Water your seeds and you’ll see the shoots soon enough but you’ve got to stick with the feeling program. It’s one thing to think and affirm your desires but what truly sparks the ignition is feeling.

  1. Kid Around

Everyone has an inner child that wants to play and get dirty in the mud.  There is a part of you that still thinks a flower is the most awesome miracle of nature, that swinging on an old tyre tied to a tree is sheer bliss or that blowing bubbles is as mesmerizing as your Playstation. Tap into that part of you when you are trying to visualize your goals.  Your inner child will help you make-believe a whole new world for yourself if you only let him/her out to play.

Just remember that a tedious, monotonous strategy will reap boredom and inertia whereas an adventurous, exciting plan will have you hopping, jumping and skipping to where you want to be with a smile on your face. Ultimately, joy is your purpose so have fun on your way to dream manifestation!

How to Better Understand Your Yin/Yang Energy

From a Distance Header by Cherie Roe Dirksen

I saw on my Facebook feed one early morn, that Venus and Mars are doing a little dance in the morning sky together in my neck of the woods.

On 1st September (which is our Spring Day in the Southern Hemisphere), they were apparently at an exact degree in Leo and appear as one united star.

It feels like a perfect metaphor for the union of the divine feminine and masculine.

The yin and yang energy (and the merging of the two) has felt very poignant over the past couple of weeks and seems to be culminating into a collaborative peak.

But before we get all in a tizz over this titillating sexual energy (as in the ‘universal energy’ and not necessarily just ‘sex’ — although that would be nice too, let’s face it!) — let’s have a simplified look at what these beautiful, dichotomous energies bring to the planetary table:

Sacred Feminine Traits — Looking Within:

The female (yin) vibration encapsulates the ‘being’ energy and yields:

  • Receptivity
  • Unconditional Love
  • Nurturing
  • Kindness
  • Compassion
  • Intuition
  • Creativity
  • Flow
  • Sensitivity
  • Tenderness

Divine Masculine Traits — Looking Without:

The male (yang) vibration imparts the ‘doing’ energy and brings:

  • Security
  • Action
  • Stability
  • Strength (inner and outer)
  • Courage
  • Expansion
  • Safety/Protection
  • Support (emotional and physical)
  • Responsibility
  • Logic
  • Confidence

Marrying the Yin/Yang — ‘I Do’

Whether you are male or female, gay or straight (or anything in between) — you can encapsulate the above-mentioned traits.

The waltz between male and female is a beautiful one and our interdependence is sacred and should not be seen as a weakness but an amazing, God-given strength.

Our ability to work together to weave a reality full of love, life and laughter is a massive blessing that we should all strive to claim.

We simply could not exist without each other.

When we can learn to embrace our characteristics and use them to better discover ourselves, each other and our world —we will step into an adventure beyond belief.

Drop all the stereotypical archetypes and societal labels and step into a world full of wonder as you redefine what being ‘man’ or ‘woman’ means to you. Now imagine all the fun you are going to have playing around with these lively energies!

What Could Tumbling Through the Void Possibly Do For Us?

Been in a Funk Lately?

Sometimes we get stuck in a place where nothing seems to be happening. Either we lose our mojo or we try so hard but nothing seems to give back. This is the dreaded ‘void’ and it can cause quite a fluster when we seem to be trapped in it.

I’m pretty verbal about how I’m feeling and have no compunction to truly state what I’ve been going through — this usually results in me finding out I’m not the only one going through something. So, recent conversations with random friends, family and acquaintances all point towards a common experience of this void (the place where not much is happening) — it seems to be where a lot of us are hanging out of late.

Who Brought the Life Jackets?

It’s especially frustrating when we have great ideas but have no energy, no takers, no inclination, no time or no funding to implement such grand plans.

It can indeed seem that we are floating down Diarrhea Creek with no paddle.

The good news is that when we find ourselves in the void there’s probably a damn fine reason for it.

What You Waiting For?

Voids can be great times for:

  • Reflection —  do some inner work, see if there are cobwebs that need dusting on the inside.
  • Reattunement — should you be singing to a different tune, is it time to start anew altogether?
  • Recalibrating — adjusting, checking and realigning your objectives.

If you’ve got all these ducks in a row and you’ve even taken action to see new prospects come to fruition and still nothing is happening — be a sitting duck!

What? Am I Quacking Up?

What I mean is to be still and at peace in the void — don’t strain against it, wish you weren’t in it or panic for fear of never getting out of it.

The void can also be interpreted as the place of creation — the ultimate matrix or womb. Watch for synchronicities and opportunities — be fully aware of what you want to see happen and how the universe tries to make it possible.

Related Article: Are You Experiencing Synchronicity?

I was watching a lecture by Gregg Braden and he said that when we can be in this space without judgment or fear, we allow an opening for spirit (who doesn’t want to see you void of anything) to fill our void in the best way possible. When we try to fill the void in our angst, we can further delay the true path of our soul.

So, have patience if you find yourself in the void and trust that you will soon be guided to your higher calling.

Taking Breathing For Granted

Breath — it is the first thing we do when we experience this life and the last thing we do when we make our grand exit. As physical beings, it is our life – we cannot function without it. And yet we take it so for granted.

“Did you know that your quality of breath can determine your quality of life?”

In meditation, it is our bridge between the noise of our minds and the accessible silence. It can be our pathway to stillness and present moment awareness.

The Triad by Cherie Roe Dirksen (2)

Did you know that your quality of breath can determine your quality of life?

Breathing correctly boosts the brain (it has even been shown to spark brain growth — especially in the elderly), invigorates the body and helps us to find clarity (especially when we find ourselves under stress or anxiety).

Controlled breathing can even lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Did you know that:

  • Oxygen is important to blood cells because oxygen is needed to make energy for our body.
  • You don’t get blood cell oxygenation from food — you breathe in O2 and it is picked up by the red blood cells in the lungs and taken through the body to all the cells via hemoglobin.

But Don’t We Breathe Naturally?

Most of us are on auto-pilot with our breaths — they are shallow and we don’t usually pay much attention to the inhalation/exhalation process.

Be honest with yourself — how often do you take a deep, belly-filled breath?

I know you’ve just done it now 😉 But think about it — it’s not that often, right?

Try to consciously breathe, even if it is every hour. As mentioned above, deep breathing will help your body by infusing your cells with oxygen, bringing vitality and balance to your system.

Shallow breathing restricts oxygen to the brain causing fatigue and lethargy so — whenever you can — put your attention on your breath.

Try this exercise:

Why not Pin this to your Pinterest board? Share it with others!

Breathe in to the count of eight – really fill your lungs and let your stomach expand to the extent that you look pregnant. Hold that breath to the count of eight and then release it slowly to the count of eight.

Do this 3 times as many times a day as you can, especially in the morning, when you awaken, and just before sleep.

It will give you an added kick to the day and induce restful sleep at night.

Using Mindful Breathing to Begin Therapeutic Meditation

To those of you who are old-hat with meditating — you can skip this part. For those who are new to meditation and want to try it out…it may benefit you to read on.

When you engage in mindful breathing (find somewhere quiet to sit or lie down, close your eyes and put your attention on inhalation and exhalation) you form a bridge to the ‘still’ place in your mind.

With time and practice, you will be able to cross that bridge a little easier every time you engage in meditation and breathwork.

Don’t judge yourself or get upset if your mind just won’t shut up – this is normal and takes a lot of practice to get to the point where you can achieve full stillness without all the fluff and ‘white noise’.

Sometimes my mind just won’t let go of a song or tune when I am trying to meditate (especially when it thinks it’s being funny and starts up with ‘The Sounds of Silence’) and I just let that be – it usually dissipates in the end. Just persist with the mindful breathing and go with the flow of where your consciousness wants to take you.

“This is the journey into the mind and it can be a wonderfully calming experience…”

Mindful breathing techniques in meditation can be really awesome as you begin to sense the vibrations and different frequencies in the ether and all around you. It might come in the form of flashing or bright coloured lights or a vortex or wormhole. Sometimes it just remains dark or ‘spotty’ – a bit like the night sky.

Stay with this and see where it takes you. This is the journey into the mind and it can be a wonderfully calming experience.

Enjoy using your nasal passages and lungs to enliven and revitalize your body and soothe your soul!

How Weird, Little Synchronicities Can Actually Be the Bomb

4 Reasons to Eat Humble Pie and Starve the Ego

Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everyone will respect you.”   ~Lao Tzu (Tao Te Ching)

Easier said than done, right?

We all experience our own egos in mild to moderate doses every now and again (and for some, it’s a constant fighting battle that they’re not even aware of).

When will we actually get it through our heads that it’s okay to be who we are?

The Playing Field For Happiness and Sanity

I can only put this through via a personal encounter I had last week with my ego. It was a sneaky meeting, I didn’t even realize at the time that my ego had me by the short and curly’s.

I was having trouble with a computer-related work issue. Instead of asking for help, I tried to solve the problem when I was clearly not in the headspace or in the ‘know’ of how to fix the issue.

I squirmed and shifted in my seat whilst I allowed my temper to rise. I just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel — the tunnel was sealed off and a huge concrete barrier had been erected to block my passage.  The clock was ticking and I was working with a looming deadline.

I began to tear my hair out (literally, at this point, not merely figuratively) and started banging my fists down on the table (real mature) — I was feeling the anger and rage mounting and I was directing all that energy at myself.

Now here is where my ego stepped in.

I felt like I was useless, incompetent and stupid. If I had to ask for help (which at this point was inevitable) I was admitting defeat and that I wasn’t coping (ego not liking the latter).

I fancy myself as a strong, independent, problem-solving kind of woman and this was just not on!

Tail Between the Legs

I bit the bullet and asked for help which I received and within an hour things were back on track.

My ego was seriously wounded though. I had proven myself to be unlearned in this specific field (which is not really my forte but, heck, that just didn’t seem to matter to my ego). I sat down to reflect and lick my wounds.

Here’s the crux of what I learned:

  • Asking for help does not mean you are stupid.  It just means you are not thick enough to stop yourself from learning or letting other people exercise their talents in a specific field. Take that one, ego!
  • Letting your guard down to show people your vulnerabilities is not disempowering it is the opposite — you’re empowering yourself to be who you are. Your vulnerabilities can make you more relatable to others and yourself.  Huh? Cut yourself some slack! We’re all trying our best and sometimes we fall. The hallmark of a pro is to get up again and dust off — that’s what makes you who you are.
  • Take a massive slice of humble pie and have a good laugh at your expense. The ego diminishes at the sound of you laughing at yourself. Don’t take things personally (even if it’s you doing the personal criticizing).
  • To stubbornly try and do something against your grain, especially when you know you are going down a slippery slope, causes you pain. Stop doing it. Trust your gut instinct — if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.  If you must do it, ask for help instead of getting your knickers in a knot. The ego is always trying to compare, compete or criticize — try identify any of these traits in what you are pursuing. Be honest with yourself — are you doing this for you or for someone/something else?

More Pie?

After I had my slice of humble pie, I came across the very same situation yesterday. Instead of a repeat performance of slipping into a state of panic, self-torture, anguish and dismay at my perceived lack of capabilities, I had a good laugh at myself and the reoccurring predicament I found myself in.

I acknowledged that this was another moment where I was out of my depth and I immediately asked for help.

I felt like I stepped aside from my ego and witnessed myself in that vulnerable but okay place and I wasn’t feeling diminished in any way.  I was just me and it felt good.

The actual problem was sorted in less than 10 minutes and, contrary to what I thought, I wasn’t at fault this time (yay for me!). It was like a test from the Universe to see if I had digested that humble pie I ate last week.

My conclusion was to love yourself despite your ‘faults’, accept yourself for who you are and don’t give a toss what other people think of you. Step into your power and own the gifts that are specifically you — don’t try to be who you are not.

Be happy.

Are You Secretly Opposed to Nirvana?

Words of Wisdom From Matthew Bellamy

Step Into Your Power Now With This Simple Affirmation

1 Common Mistake You May Be Making When Using the Law of Attraction

Featured

Are You Just Flat Out Broken by the LOA?

It can be darn right frustrating watching people around you manifesting their hearts desires and there you are feeling like you couldn’t conjure a pig in a poke!

What’s wrong with your Law of Attraction prowess?

You’re so sick and tired of hearing that you bring about that which you think about most because you’ve been drawing sweat-beads trying to manifest that $4 million bank account and it just ain’t happening.

What are you doing wrong?

Shooting Too High and Taking the Fall

I’ve had my feelers out, listening to how friends use the LOA to attract a better life. I’ve got to say I’m a bit taken aback. A lot of the aforementioned peeps are straining to go large or go home…and they’re ending up taking the long and frustrating road home.

No wonder!

Here’s what I think is going horribly wrong:

  • Instead of trying to manifest a bar of chocolate, they’re trying to get a ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
  • In lieu of attracting a long lost friend to make contact, they’re trying to procure a relationship with the hot guy from ‘Supernatural’.
  • Despite their amazing efforts to get in shape — and they’re really looking good and making steady progress — they’re feeling shortchanged because they don’t have a bod like J-Lo yet.

In my opinion, the one factor that is going awry is the target is set too high and the patience to manifest such a trophy is way too low.

I totally advocate going for your dreams no matter how intimidating but I also believe in a steady progression of knock-down goals.

It seems like a lot of people are missing the groundwork — then when nothing is coming to fruition, hands are thrown in the air and it is declared that this new-age hippy sh*t doesn’t work.

No…it does work — you just need to hone down on your skill to use this magnificent force of free universal energy.

Those seeds are indeed fertilized and are growing beneath the soil — you may just need to tune your patience, work on your faith and brush up on your affirmation/visualization/feeling expertise. The best way to do this is to start small. No on e wants to hear this but it is actually the fastest track to success.

Trying to manifest a million dollar bank account when you’re sitting in the red is going to exhaust you. So try manifesting $100, then $400, then $600…then progressively increase the amount.

Getting a Self Worth Work-Out

Some people CAN manifest big, it’s not that you CAN’T. It just may be that you’re self belief muscles need some training. As my mother used to remind me, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Give yourself bite-sized goals to achieve. Each time you vanquish the small hill, it makes the big mountain more and more conquerable (is that even a word?). Now you’re starting to build and flex those worth and belief muscles to the max. Eventually, you’ll be able to take the LOA training wheels off and go full tilt!

But until then, you’ve got to eat the elephant one bite at a time (what a ghastly saying! But it sure purveys the point).

Going from Zero to Hero

Okay, so what’s worth checking in on are these points:

  1. Start small. Manifest things daily that are achievable and remarkable. In other words, you want a beautiful garden so your first thought is to manifest a new palatial home with grounds to match when all you need to do is try initially attract a rose bush (palatial mansion may take in excess of 10-20 years to manifest, rose bush may take a day — you do the math!). If your neighbor then leans over the fence and offers you a gorgeous little cutting of her iceberg roses, you’ll not only be pleasantly surprised because the world works in remarkable ways but you’ll be toning those believability biceps. Slow and steady wins the race. This is how you think and manifest outside the box.
  2. Water! You’ve got to nourish your dreams. Keep them well fertilized and fed. Affirm your desires daily and don’t let impatience or despair creep in and ruin your flower bed! If you’re feeling like you’re not manifesting — check in with yourself. Are your goals realistic? What can you do to enhance your desires (like meditate on them or create a vision board, set an even smaller more achievable goal, etc)?
  3. Trim Back. You future project what you’re thinking NOW. Keep realigning your thoughts to nurture your dreams and not bring about existential drought. How to Use Your Heart Wisdom

Lady of the Forest by Cherie Roe Dirksen

We hear the terms ‘heart-centered living’ and ‘using your heart’ thrown around a lot in conversation and literature these days but how do we practically do this?  What wisdom does our heart really have?

“There is no instinct like that of the heart.” ~ Lord Byron

Piercing the Heart Mystery

When I think of using my heart and not my head to gauge situations, it conjures feelings of love (synonymous with our ‘hearts’) and trusting my intuition.  However, it still baffles me a bit…well at least up until a recent experience I had (I promise to divulge all the juicy bits further on in this article).

In my experience, heart wisdom has got as much to do with our physical heart organ as mind has to do with our physical brain.

The process of working with your heart guidance is better likened to a hunk of awareness that clusters in the area of your heart.  You drop into that space, which is the center of your being — your core — and you try to sense your inborn intelligence…something called the innate.

This is how I see it, or rather, how I feel it.

The Moving Around of Consciousness

When we are thinking and talking, our consciousness is usually felt in the head.  See if you can feel your consciousness right now.  Does it feel like it’s all sitting up in your noggin?

Now see if you can drop that sense of conscious awareness into your heart center (which is actually your heart chakra — in the middle of your chest).

I feel it’s all about focusing that consciousness wherever it is needed.  Sometimes, we can drop that awareness into our solar plexus to ‘feel’ for our gut instinct.  When we are faced with challenges, it’s best to sense our answers from the heart chakra and when we need to take action (after we have processed through the heart), we move our awareness up into our head.

It’s a Combo Deal

We need to get used to using all our bodily ‘brains’ to face the challenges of living in this chaotic and, yet, oh so beautiful world.

“The heart is the chief feature of a functioning mind.” ~ Frank Lloyd Wright

We have brains in our skull, for sure, but you can also say we have intelligence dotted all over the body — in our gut, in our heart, in our pineal, in our feet and so on.  Most of us have just lost the inherent ability to use them all.

Thumbs Up to a Helpful Heart

Okay, so here’s my story about how I finally ‘got’ using the heart guidance:

Heart Intelligence Quote by Cherie Roe DirksenA couple of days ago I got my thumb slammed in the hinge-side of my car door…and this is where I’m going to introduce you to the South African word (Afrikaans to be precise), ‘Eina!’  Pronounced ‘aye – naa’ and it means PAIN.

After using ice pack after ice pack to numb the pain, I knew it was inevitable that I would have to leave the cold comfort of my plastic glacial crutch and feel the damage.

This is where the head came into play.

My thoughts wandered all over my thumb piercing the excruciating throbbing and feelings of heat and swelling.  It was obviously necessary to feel that my appendage was damaged (if we didn’t feel the pain, we wouldn’t be alerted to a problem).

Right, so now that I was alerted to my body’s distress call and felt the busy little repair army coming to do its job, I wondered, ‘so what is the point of still feeling the pain?  I know I’m hurt — I’ve done all I can to ‘doctor’ myself…why can’t we just ‘switch off’?’

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart … Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” ~ Carl Jung

Then, by some weird miraculous notion, I started to move my consciousness into my heart center.  It was kind of spontaneous and I went with it.  I focused all my awareness in the space of my chest and ‘thought’ from there.  The pain subsided until it was completely gone and all I was left with was the throb.

I scanned my thumb with my heart mind and was still alert to the pounding (almost as if the body is still reminding you that there is a ‘crisis’ being seen to) but without the pain.

Hallelujah!

For the next half hour I sat switching from mind (experiencing the pain) to heart (no pain), just to make sure I wasn’t delusional.  It worked every time!

Alchemy and the Heart — Turning Our Experiences into Gold!

It’s still early days for me and my new found heart/mind appreciation.  I’m not professing to now be in full control of pain but I sure got a glimpse of how our amazing system works, or should work.

Pain is necessary to alert us to something that is out of alignment (this can be taken both physically or mentally/emotionally) but could it be that we don’t have to suffer as a consequence?  That using our mind to do all the thinking is actually causing us unnecessary suffering?

It’s something to ponder, or should I say, something we should at least try to explore or sense. within ourselves — shifting from perpetual overthinking to heart-centered awareness.

Could it be that our heart-centers are our own personal Philosophers Stone — alchemizing situations to their most basic core?

I’ve sensed that our hearts are divination tools to the truth.  When we drop into our hearts we operate from completeness — from the wholeness of our sacred soul.

“The workings of the human heart are the profoundest mystery of the universe. One moment they make us despair of our kind, and the next we see in them the reflection of the divine image.” ~ Charles W. Chestnut

It’s pure bliss to drop into our hearts — when it is done effectively it feels like everything is as it should be and that the only truth is unconditional, unequivocal love.

We are spirit having a corporeal experience therefore it is necessary to be mindful of our thoughts and the physical actions we need to take in order to sustain our material endeavor.  However, strive to trust the innate wisdom of the heart and use it as often as possible as a balancing, neutralizing force in our lives.

“If I keep a green bough in my heart, then the singing bird will come.” ~ Chinese Proverb

5 Revelations That Made Me Rethink My Life On The Road To Recovery

White Poppies by Cherie Roe DirksenI’ve been down with what I call my ‘super flu’ (as it’s taken me super long to get over!) — it’s been quite a challenge for me as I’m not one who gets sick often.  I’m just about over the worst of it now thank goodness!

When I was in the thick of fever and barely able to establish if I’d slipped into a parallel reality through sheer disorientation, it was extremely difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel — let’s face it…when we’re sick our whole world crumbles!

Our routines are knocked out of orbit and our lives come to a grinding halt.

Healer, Heal Thyself!

Okay, so I’m all for the idea of being able to heal yourself through thought, visualization and feeling complete health.  It’s a great concept when you’re feeling good but what about when you’re in a state of delirium?  It’s tough, I tell you!

I did try though and listened to bountiful amounts of healing meditations (you can find a plethora of these on YouTube) that certainly bought peace in moments of panic and soothed me for hours at a stretch.

However, it became clear that my body needed to go through this process for a reason and that’s what I kept reminding myself in the tougher times.

When we get sick it’s usually an indication to hop on the ‘go slow’ wagon. Chances are that you need some severe downtime and, more than likely, time to reflect and integrate what’s been going on in your life.

Making the Most of Feeling Shit

It’s hard to conceive that there is some kind of treasure in being ill but after much thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are heaps of diamonds to be mined from the experience.

And now — after medding myself up with garlic, ginger, spring water and copious amounts of raw honey (boy, does it get rid of that ‘tickle’ in the throat!) — my journey is drawing to a close.

Here are a few revelations I’ve gained from the experience:

  • Reboot — Since I’ve been under the weather I have naturally not eaten any junk food or wanted to drink alcohol or coffee. I’ve noticed that all I crave is fruit, nuts, lots of water and veggie dishes like salads or steamed veg. I’m hoping to take this as a system restart and continue aligning myself to what my body truly wants. When we get sick I feel it’s an opportunity to reboot and urgently start listening to the demands of our vessel! I normally do eat very healthy but it took me getting sick to weed out some bad habits that were creeping in.
  • Revamp — While I was nursing myself back to health, I watched a film called ‘Fork Over Knives’ — a doccie outlining the health importance of eating a plant-based diet — and, although I have followed this for many years now, my meal plans were starting to get real dull and boring. This documentary ignited a fire under my derriere to get more creative with mealtimes and reinvent a menu that is not only healthy but exciting. I can’t wait to start this new culinary routine! I’ve already made a list, whilst in bed, of 12 meals I intend to start making and rotating every week.
  • Release — Another wonderful opportunity that arose while I was ill was releasing the things in my life that were just not working for me anymore. Having forced downtime gets you to do a lot of thinking while you’re staring at the ceiling. You get to reflect on your life and what needs trimming, releasing or renovating.
  • Rejoice — We’re mostly on autopilot through our daily routines. Being sick has taught me what a blessing it is to be able to garden when I feel like it or do simple chores without wanting to pass out. We take so much for granted and sometimes it takes getting sick to realize it. I now find myself relishing the fact that I can do the dishes (which I didn’t much like doing before) or weed the veggie patch (also not the nicest of chores in the past). It’s given me a new perspective of my life and how much there is to rejoice in every day. Getting to sit behind my laptop writing this without breaking out into a cold sweat is just fantastic! I’m itching to get back into my art studio to paint — the creativity is seeping through my pores just bursting to be released. I have a heart full of gratitude, not only for starting to feel my body and health return but for all the small, medium and big things going on in my life right now. Life is actually quite exciting — we just forget sometimes in the daily grind.
  • Renewal — The last thing on this list of revelations is the sense of general renewal I’m feeling. As I said in the previous point — my body feels regenerated and my lease on life has had a major boost. Being ill sucks but now I think of it like a phoenix rising from the ashes. At first I beat myself up about getting sick ‘cause I’m supposed to be ‘healthy’ but upon reflection, I realized that this has taught me to roll with the punches and to still find the good in the seemingly ‘bad’. I became aware that when people asked me how I was feeling and my response was negative, that I wasn’t walking the talk. I promptly changed my way of talking and thinking about my flu to positive healing discourse and feelings and started coming out of the funk pretty quickly.  It’s all important to refresh your thoughts and filter that inner dialogue no matter how ‘true’ feeling poorly is to you in the moment.  This now moment will future project where your thoughts/feelings are steering you.  So instead of thinking ‘I feel ill’ — try to realign that thought to ‘I am feeling better’ and then to ‘I feel/am healthy’.  Oh, and don’t give up!  If you don’t feel sprightly doing this by tomorrow, it doesn’t mean it’s not working.  We all have the power to spontaneously heal ourselves but, let’s face it, most of us are not there yet — so give yourself some time to recoup.

So that’s my rant for this week.  Things aren’t always as bad as they seem and with a bit of spit and polish about how you perceive certain challenges, you can walk away with a newfound treasure cache.

We’ve explored how to navigate our unconscious mind, heal our shadow aspects and balance our inner feminine and masculine and now Tracy will bring this together to teach how to create and live into our potential in this fourth and final blog.

Cherie:  Okay, we hear the saying ‘follow your heart’ a lot these days — what exactly does that mean in your opinion?

Tracy: Following your heart is not for the faint-hearted and it doesn’t mean giving into your egoic desires in each moment (which can often take you further away). It means having the courage to get real about who you are, exploring what your soul wants to express through you and committing to walking this path because the fullness of your life depends on it.

Yet how do we even do this?

We could have a myriad of external and internal obstacles and perceived limitations and somehow have forgotten that we are the curators and creators of our own lives.

It starts with taking our power back from the outside world and deciding to live our highest potential, beyond what’s comfortable and familiar.

Cherie:  Why is it detrimental, in this new paradigm, to listen to our heart intuition instead of our heads?

Tracy: If we rely on our brain to give us information on how to move forward, we’ll remain stuck. It only knows what it knows based on past experience and can’t give us any new information that hasn’t already been learned or experienced.

To live according to our highest potential is to break out of the cycle of fear, doubt and lack and follow the intuitive design, cycles and wisdom of nature. We need to harness the power of the seen and unseen, the superconscious and subconscious, the masculine and feminine and the heart and mind to create from a place of wholeness and balance.

Cherie:  Following the metaphor of the cycle of the butterfly — that you’ve already illustrated for us in the previous blogs — how do we use it to create what we want?

Tracy: Start with the end in mind. Begin with the butterfly, that which you are at the core of your being.

  • What is that highest vision you want for your life, for your next project, for who you want to become?
  • What are you passionate about? What do you love to do and talk about?
  • What GIVES you energy, rather than depletes it?

EmergentImaginal Model-5

Your purpose may evolve over time, but in each moment of living into your passion and truth, that path will unfold before you.

The old fearful way of creating is to keep doing what you know, work hard and then harder, with effort, sweat and tears.

You’ve lost the joy, passion and energy. You’re working from a place of lack and fear and have disconnected from your truth.

It’s all ‘doing’ and not enough ‘being’ and therefore no real creativity, which is what truly brings us to life.

Cherie: So, we’ve basically got to find the balance of our heart-mind connection to truly and fully encompass our innate creative power. Can you expound on working together with that heart-mind connection and all it entails?

Tracy: Working from the heart–mind combines the power of flow and focus, surrender and action, compassion and passion, inspiration and execution, contraction and expansion. It’s a dance that feels less like work and more like wild hearted living.

“It’s the difference between living in the world of magic and the muggle world.”

It begins with the heart –that feminine aspect that’s receptive, allowing and intuitive.

She is still, radiant, creative, nurturing, feeling, flowing, unconditional love. This is the place of receiving intuitive divine guidance. So much of that has been lost in society and yet this feminine energy is the power and source of all of creation.

Like the egg of the butterfly, be open to receiving the seed of inspiration from your highest vision.

We can access this place through meditation, being in nature, gentle movement and embracing nature’s many feminine attributes (the flowing water, the blossoming flower).

Allow yourself to imagine this space of the receptive, magnetic feminine. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? How do you know when you’re in that place?

Cherie:  I love that! Thank you. Synchronicity is an incredibly powerful force in this world that guides us along our path and you’ve described it and what to do with it beautifully.  Any last words to impart before we wrap up this incredible journey you’ve taken us through?

Tracy: Remember, to the degree you experience the expansion of your vision, is to the degree that you will feel the contraction of all that’s needing to be let go of.

You will have to go through the contractions in order to birth your vision or highest version of self. The old fear cells will be threatened by the higher vibrational imaginal discs of the butterfly and your job will be to keep holding onto the truth of who you are and let the fears and doubts dissolve as you keep walking through them.

You are growing your wings and the caterpillar, who is scared of flying, will do everything to try stay in her camouflaged, black and white world – but you are born to fly!

Living and leading from the heart requires courage and commitment, yet you get to a point of no return where you can only dance the cha-cha towards your truth!

You inevitably WILL come up against your fears and doubts as they want to keep you playing small in your familiar playground. Don’t’ let the fear of feeling fear hold you back. Feel it, dance through it and walk through it.

You’ll find a pot of power on the other side that will fuel you for the next threshold you face. All the while, you’re reclaiming more and more of your personal power, building your confidence muscle and preparing you for full flight.

Ever Wanted to Fly? (Blog 1)

Do You Know the Difference Between Your Superconscious and Subconscious Mind? (Blog 2)

Cherie: What are we going to be delving into this time?

Tracy: This week we’ll be exploring the feminine attributes represented below by the egg – the receptive, ‘being’ energy, and the masculine represented by the caterpillar – the active, ‘doing’ energy. EmergentImaginal Model-4 The feminine receives the ideas, insights, intuition and guidance and the masculine aspect offers support and structure to action them. Both are needed to birth new life and to bring dreams into fruition.

There are masculine and feminine attributes in all of life. Nature teaches us the beautiful dance between these wild feminine and masculine aspects.

Both are needed to bring balance and wholeness, and yet our patriarchal society has largely suppressed, controlled and dominated the feminine. She who is mother nature and our very own nature… our creative, intuitive, receptive, empathic, heart-centred selves.

It’s time for her to be reborn through each one of us, so that we may stop the suffering and destruction within ourselves and on this planet.

Cherie: That was beautifully articulated, thank you. What, in your opinion, is the key attribute to actively bringing our divine feminine and masculine into balance?

Tracy: I see this yin and yang balance representing communication, which is the process whereby we bring about communion (unity, intimacy wholeness).

The balance of the feminine and masculine is likened to the in breath and the out breath.  It is the receiving and the giving, the listening and the speaking, the content and the delivery — within ourselves and with each other.

When this is off balance we struggle to connect to our truth and intuition and express and action it and thus we struggle to connect and communicate with each other.

Cherie:  Can you share with us any personal experiences with regards to shifting these two aspects into equilibrium?

Tracy: Part of my journey has been to heal the suppression and wounding of my inner feminine, as well as my wounded masculine aspect so that I can trust that he is able to support and direct my feminine energy, birthing my full potential.

My feminine hasn’t trusted the masculine. She’s been hurt, betrayed and violated for centuries so she didn’t trust that inner or outer masculine to support her, that he will act on her behalf and in her best interests. It’s safer not to take action and speak and express her truth , that way she won’t be rejected or made to feel wrong.

“When the pure essence of the masculine energy is distorted, it turns into aggression. When the true essence of the feminine is distorted, it becomes resentful and withdraws love and connectedness. The feminine energy is all about relationship, connecting with love and support and nurturance, sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. The masculine, in its true essence, gets the job done in a way that is reliable, trustworthy, protective. When the masculine is balanced, it responds and communicates in such a way that others feel safe, physically as well as emotionally .“

– Ayal Hurst

This wounding can put us in victim mode where we feel that everything is happening to us and that we’re at the effect of life, bouncing off everything like an aimless pinball.

Cherie:  What advice can you give the readers to identify, within themselves, the wounded or out of alignment facets of our yin/yang nature?

Tracy: In order to heal these aspects, it’s important to be honest with ourselves.

  • Where do you see these distorted patterns playing out?
  • Where are you withholding or playing victim?
  • Where are you in avoidance or trying to control?
  • What are you attracting in your life?

This will show those areas that are out of balance. If you’re trying to control everything in your life, you’re probably not trusting yourself and the process of life. If you’re in avoidance, you’re likely not wanting to feel your truth and step into your full power.

Once you shine a torch on a shadow aspect, it has nowhere to hide and is now part of the light. When you love and accept that part, it can no longer hold that negative charge and have power over you. FeminineAndMasculine Cherie:  Very powerful stuff! What benefits will we be able to see, feel or notice when we step into balance?

Tracy: The more you step into the natural qualities of the masculine and feminine, the more of your power you reclaim, becoming less triggered and reactive because you’re no longer avoiding and afraid of acknowledging that part of you.

You‘ll allow the Natural feminine within you to fully flower and set clear boundaries that honour all that you are and want for your life.

We need to allow the intuition, power and creativity of the feminine to flow, but we also need the framework and boundaries of the masculine to action and execute those ideas and dreams, otherwise there’s no container and your ideas and insights leak out without being fully harnessed.

Female energy without masculine energy is not whole; it’s unsupported, unfocused and scattered. It has no purpose and as a result can’t reach its full potential. For our creative spirit within our being to truly express itself, there must be a marriage at the deepest levels of our being.

The purpose of this inner marriage is to create a new life and a new world at the core of our being which manifests externally. This is the change we’re called to become.

Cherie:  I couldn’t agree more! That was very illuminating and inspiring.  Thank you, Tracy.

In the final article we’ll bring the superconscious, subconscious, masculine and feminine principles together and learn how to create and live into our full potential. Here is the link to the final blog in this series.

Do You Know the Difference Between Your Superconscious and Subconscious Mind?

InShot_20240405_164735074

In a previous blog Tracy Russell led us through the teachings of the butterfly metamorphosis — how we each have the blueprint of potential within us to work through the layers of conditioning that disconnect us from our truth.  You can recap on that blog HERE.

In this blog Tracy will take us through connecting to our highest vision or version of self, as well as the shadow aspects that will consequently arise.

“Our heart glows, and secret unrest gnaws at the root of our being. Dealing with the unconscious has become a question of life for us.” ~ Carl Jung

Cherie:  You have developed a diagram that helps us to visually understand the concept represented by the butterfly’s transitional states as a metaphor to our lives — can you expand on what the cross symbolizes?

Tracy:  In the diagram below I’ve used the cross to represent the unconscious and the conscious.

There is only ONE MIND – which, for the sake of convenience and understanding, we’ll divide, according to its functions, into the conscious and unconscious minds, which is further divided into superconscious and subconscious.

One ancient definition of the cross is ‘the cross of matter’, the vertical bar representing spirit, which interpenetrates the horizontal bar representing matter or the earth plane (horizon line). This is symbolic of bringing heaven to earth.

EmergentImaginal Model-3The world of the caterpillar is black and white, his sight is limited and he knows what to do based on what he’s been taught.

He’s conditioned to consume and stay on his isolated tree, not knowing that there’s a whole world of colour beyond his limited perception.

Similarly we go about our life only connecting to the 5% of information that is filtered via our senses and self talk forming our conscious reality and often fail to tap into the 95% that is our unconscious mind.

Cherie:  Can you expand on what roles our superconscious state of mind plays in our lives?

Tracy:  It functions best when the conscious mind is not mulling over problems, but rather focused on solving them and looking for solutions (energy flows where focus goes.). Then when the conscious mind is focused elsewhere, ideas will often flash into the mind.

When you get an intuitive flash/idea act on it immediately, the more rapidly you act on these insights the more insights you receive.

The unconscious mind communicates in pictures , metaphors and synchronicities. Visualization and imagining are powerful ways to engage in two-way communication.

Any thought, plan, goal or idea held continuously in the conscious mind will get brought into our reality by the superconscious mind, whether positive or negative. Therefore it’s important to be conscious of what you’re focused on.

Think of it as a mainframe computer that you can tap into in each NOW moment (your point of power).

SuperconsciousCall it universal mind, cosmic consciousness, infinite intelligence — it’s where we source our ideas and receive inspiration and life force energy from.

It’s not something outside of ourselves, it is at the core of our being. It’s the source of all creativity. It’s the genius mind that Einstein Mozart, Beethoven, Thomas Edison and countless others knew how to access.

Cherie:  Well, that really helps to clarify the role of superconscious. It’s definitely where I get most of my inspiration from — especially whilst in a meditative state. So how do we actively engage the superconscious to better our lives?

Tracy: Whether you’re wanting to create a new project, a new life or live more into your truth, the first step is to connect to that vision, the butterfly… the end result.

  • Imagine what it would be like to live your most juiciest, fulfilled, passionate life.
  • What would you be doing? What can you see? What can you feel? (engage all your senses)
  • If you had no limitations whatsoever, what would your life look like?
  • If you had no self-doubt what kind of person would you be?

The thing about growth is that it’s not linear, there is no A to B where you get to a grand finish line, throw your hands up in the air and shout “I’ve arrived!”

Growth is infinite and happens in a spiral of contraction and expansion.

Just remember that when you shine a light on the inner butterfly (that free, expansive liberated self) you will also be illuminating, to the same degree, the shadow self (fears, beliefs and limitations).

You’ll feel the contraction of all that’s not in alignment with your vision.

I’m sure you’ve experienced an epiphany or grand idea which lights you up completely (often at night when your unconscious is more active) and then you wake up in the morning to “What was I thinking, I can’t do that!” Then all the excuses and doubts appear and you’re left feeling deflated.

Remember your imaginal discs (potential) are a higher frequency and those fears and doubts that live on a lower vibration will fight for survival. And yet they hold great gifts and power for us if we learn how to transmute and alchemise them.

Just as any hero in a story has to slay some dragons in order to come through the other side victorious, so do we need to use our challenges and perceived limitations as tools for growth so that we can eventually bridge the gap between our current reality and desired reality.

These beliefs and fears lurk in the shadow of our subconscious mind and it’s a necessary part of growth and transformation to be able to face, feel and heal these aspects so we can return to wholeness.

This is what happens within the chrysalis — the butterfly who’s wanting to emerge and the caterpillar needing to die so that this new vision/ higher aspect of self can be re-birthed.

Yet the old dies hard and doesn’t give up without a fight!

Dictionary: (from the Latin revolutio, “a turn around”) is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time.

This is the revolution within, where there’s a shift in power from your head to your heart — from fear to empowerment, restriction to freedom.

Cherie:  Thank you. I’m sure we can all relate to what you have outlined there about the superconscious and how we can tap into it and trust our heart guidance more. Now for the subconscious — how can we better understand ourselves through this aspect of mind?

Tracy:  The term Subconscious mind is an individual accumulation of knowledge through personal experience and ideas that have been fixed through education, repetition or impact which form your conditioning and it controls ±97% of our behavior!  Here are some characteristics of the subconscious:

  • subconsciousIt can’t tell real from imagined – whatever picture or image you send it, it believes it to be absolutely true.
  • It stores memories, beliefs, habits and generates your instincts.
  • The conditioned mind doesn’t’ know the difference between a truth and a lie, it can’t process negatives.
  • It takes everything personally… there is no one else but you.
  • It represses memories with unresolved emotions and presents them for resolution when ready.
  • Runs the body. Has a blueprint of the body now and of perfect health.
  • Generates, stores, distributes and transmits energy.
  • Functions best as a whole integrated unit, not as parts.

Cherie:  So it’s like our ‘auto-pilot’ but we’ve got to switch to manual. How do we do this?

Tracy:  Your subconscious mind contains all the mental and emotional imprints from the past, your beliefs about yourself and the world around you.  You’ve got to ask yourself:

  • What beliefs are you holding that are not serving your highest good and potential?
  • Are they absolutely true?
  • How could the opposite belief be just as true?

Some beliefs could be “I don’t have the time” I need more money” “How can I do that?” I’m not good enough” I’m not experienced enough”.

Remember every problem has a solution and it’s to keep focused on the solution.

One of the greatest obstacles is not knowing HOW to create our vision and so we find excuses and keep waiting for the right time or conditions, or a treasure map with the coordinates to land in our lap!

Yet you don’t have to know the how of creating your vision. In fact if you know the how, you’re not moving beyond your comfort zone into your greater potential.

If you know the how it means you’ve done it before.

Growing into your potential involves moving beyond the known, into the unknown. You’re blazing a new trail one step at a time using courage to slay your dragons and passion and purpose to fuel and direct your journey.

Remember this is about bringing heaven to earth… activating the vibration of what you’re wanting to create into your reality RIGHT NOW.

Start your day in the vibration of who you truly are at the core of your being (LOVE) and do those things that add joy and sparkle to your every day whilst following your bliss… this is how you pave your way.

Why Problems are Really Potentials

The Painters Universe by Cherie Roe Dirksen

The Human Condition

How often do we face troubling, irksome, unfortunate, gob-smacking, gut-wrenching, negative situations?  A lot?  Sometimes?

Is it something you fear coming up against?  Do you find yourself worrying about potential ‘what if’s’?

Whatever the answer — we all experience the downs of life as well as the ups.  It’s natural and all part of being human.  You can have it all together and be the most inimitable spiritual master sitting atop a Tibetan mountain and you will still face problematic encounters.

Problems don’t change, it’s how you deal with or perceive them that needs the changing.

Be Your Own Alchemist

What if I told you that you just might enjoy coming up against a wall in the future when you know what it represents and how to deal with it?

What we do with our potential problems is what I want to speak about today.  You can turn any situation into gold if you know how.  What am I talking about?

How Much Treasure Are You Sitting On —  Or Is It Just a Bunch of Rotten Bananas?

There is always treasure to be found in your trash.  Turning your situation around is just as simple as taking an over-ripe banana and making a banana loaf with it.

Savvy?

When life throws you lemons, make Margaritas!  When we mine what we initially deem as a negative situation, we could potentially find a myriad of gemstones in the experience.  The key is to have the right attitude and miners helmet!

We are forever expanding and learning — that’s just how our soul operates — when we get thrown curve balls they are really opportunities for expansion.

Yeah, your first reaction to something “caca” is most likely to feel down in the dumps but look back at your past — how many times did that awful thing turn out to be your greatest blessing?

Have you ever stopped to peek into your past experiences to see how things turned out?  It’s a great exercise as past experience often shows us future solutions.

If, every time something bad happens to you, you keep reiterating that your life is going to the dogs, then look at what a powerful manifestor you are!

Huh?

If you’re the kind of person who can’t ever find a positive aspect in a negative situation and all you can do is whine, complain and moan about how rotten your life is then you are creating more of that.  Kudos!

But wait, what about trying a different approach next time a truck load of sour grapes is being dumped on your doorstep?  After all, vinegar is very useful for cleaning toilets, did you know?

How to Turn Situations to Your Advantage

Okay, let’s get short, sweet and to the point of this blog:

  • Don’t fear the future — If you find yourself slipping into worry about what might happen to you and how you’ll deal with it, just affirm: ‘I am a powerful co-creator and I can bend anything to accommodate my joy’.
  • All Things Will Pass — This is a powerful realization as it works with both good and bad situations.  This is not to say you must fear all joyful moments as they will soon be gone — it is just a reminder that there is an ebb and flow to life and that when you are in the moment, it might feel like things will never change.  Thing is, the only constant you can rely on is change.  So, remind yourself that if you are having a bad day, tomorrows dawn might be a rebirth on the horizon.  And if you are experiencing joy in the moment, you are projecting more bliss into your future — so nothing to worry about there either.
  • Mine the Matter — You’ve got to dig deep into the situation (whatever it is) and scour over all possibilities to find the diamond.  Life doesn’t throw you anything you (a) can’t handle and (b) don’t need in order to grow.  And you’re just going to love the muchness that you have once you take the lesson and experience the gratification of growth!
  • Future Projection — No matter how bogged down and gloomy you may feel about things today, try to visualize how you want things to be.  Close your eyes and play a movie in your mind (in the region of your third eye, in between your brows).  Choose how you want this situation to play out.  Keep watching the DVD until you smile and really feel this outcome ingraining on your path.  Draw on that when you feel yourself slipping into dread or doubt.  Keep affirming your ideal outcome.  You are an alchemist, get used to it!

Program a New Reality, Neo

A really fun thing to do is to keep a diary of all the events that you have turned around through your own personal alchemy.  When you look back on the pages, you’ll start to see the pattern of your power emerging.

You are sitting on an immense and phenomenal ability — the power of mind, heart and emotional connection (read HERE for more about this supreme trinity and how to use it) that turns your matrix into the womb of creation that it was always supposed to be (did you know that the word ‘matrix’ means ‘womb’ in Latin?).

You create in your own personal matrix. So, don’t fear the future and what it may bring — scream out, ‘bring it on!’ and know that you can figuratively turn any base metal into gold because problems are only disguised potentials.

It’s your job to uncover the illusion and to stop buying into victimization.

Take a Lesson from the Magpie

To hammer the point home — there is an inspirational, innovative and enchanting gallery/shop where I live called Magpie

They ‘upcycle’ trash into the most beautiful art concentrating on jaw-dropping, spectacular chandeliers.

What a perfect metaphor for us — isn’t it about time we turned our trash into art?  Our lives could be sheer masterpieces of glued together strife made triumphant!

16 Imperative Choices For Healthy Living — How Many Are You Already Doing?

Look after my Heart by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Sick of Getting Sick?

“Don’t live to eat — eat to live.  Don’t let any thing come between you, your ideal body and an ecstatic life.”

Is it just me or is sickness and disease on the rise?

Just in my circle of friends and acquaintances, 20 year olds are being diagnosed with cancer and healthy 50 year olds having fatal aneurysms!  Never mind the tragic amount of other illnesses and disease doing their rounds and incapacitating people.

I went into town the other day (and, believe me, it’s a small town) and in no less than 45 minutes, heard of 4 people who have been hospitalized in the past week — all suffering with different afflictions and all pretty young.

What the hell is going on?

Healthy Living No-Brainers

I was listening to a talk show last night and the doctor being interviewed was speaking about the imperative nature of healthy living, especially nutrition.

“You may say today that you don’t give a shit about what you’re putting into your body but let me tell you — the day your body starts packing up is the day that you’ll bloody eat those words!”

She stressed how the western diet is atrocious and how something  very drastic needs to be done.

The things she was addressing seemed like a no-brainer to me until people started calling in and I was shocked to discover that most of the listeners were hearing these things for the first time.

Quit Bugging Me!

One example was a caller saying that a friend of his was growing her own vegetable garden and she didn’t use any pesticides on it — he thought she was doing it for religious reasons.

The doctor said something that was smack on the button (and I’m paraphrasing):  “If I made you a beautiful, fresh salad and then sprayed Raid all over it — would you eat it?”

The caller said no and the doctor said that this is exactly why his friend is growing without chemical sprays.

Keep Your Finger on Your Pulse!

Well, I was inspired to whip up a quick blog checklist.

Life changes are necessary and, as the good doctor said, if you want to stay alive and healthy, some of these so-called ‘sacrifices’ are detrimental.  And I put sacrifices in inverted commas because they only seem that way until you get used to them and they become part of your daily practice.

Hell, you may (and probably will) come to love some of these healthy habits — especially the way they make you feel.

“You may have the healthiest diet and the fittest body, but if you are holding onto resentment or anger, you could be a breeding ground for dis-ease.”

Let’s keep it simple and to the point (some of these things may push your buttons but try to keep an open mind at the very least).

As with anything you read or hear, use your discernment — these are all suggestions:

  1. Drink Water — 10 glasses a day and make sure it’s pure, clean water and not tap water that is over-chlorinated and contains fluoride (yes, fluoride isn’t good for you — READ MORE HERE).  Coffee and alcohol actually dehydrate you, so don’t think that you’re drinking water in your beer or caffeine fix.  It’s especially dangerous as the first sign of dehydration is thirst and when you drink other things it satiates the thirst but doesn’t help the initial problem of dehydration.  Dehydration is only solved when you drink WATER!!!!  Don’t kid yourself otherwise (and totally stay away from the flavoured water!  It’s full of sugar).
  2. MSG, Preservatives, Artificial Colouring and Sweeteners BEWARE!!!  Rule no.1 — just stay 10 miles away from any of the aforementioned things.  They are found in about 80% of products at the store but you can actually survive without them.  Quick tips:  Instead of buying crisps eat non-GMO popcorn or lightly salted crisps (they usually don’t have the MSG) and make yourself a groovy avo dip to accompany and satisfy those taste buds.  Instead of getting packaged soups and stocks (which are loaded with MSG) you can buy vegetable stock powders (look in the health section of your supermarket).  Look for alternatives!  Your great-grandmother didn’t have all this crap in her diet and neither should you.  READ MORE about the dangers of MSG HERE, food colouring info HERE, preservative info HERE and Sweeteners HERE.
  3. Cut back on the Sugar (then cut it out) — You can do it!  Yes, I know — what about the ice-cream cravings in summer or that one indiscretion after a meal out?  It’s better to ‘treat’ yourself every now and again than to have a larder full of sugary shite and kid yourself it’s okay!  Seriously, sugar is a major carcinogen.  What is a carcinogen?  A substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue.  Be informed!  I sometimes have a nice gooey dessert but it’s seldom and at home I don’t keep the stuff at all.  Stevia is a great supplement and it’s natural.  Honey in moderation also is a great alternative.  I have been making my own chocolate (cause I’m a choc-o-holic) and it’s completely satiating and de-fricking-licious!  Here is a recipe for mouth-watering choccies that you can make from scratch:  CLICK HERE.
  4. Meat-Free — As a vegetarian, this is a controversial subject and I’m sure many of you have your heckles aimed at me.  I believe we are healthier not eating meat but many will disagree — that is your choice to make and I certainly refrain from judging anyone on this point.  There is loads of information out there about the dangers of meat consumption — READ HERE for one.  Thing is, if you can’t give it up entirely, try at least to incorporate 3-4 meals a week that are meat-free.  And when you do buy meat, please buy it responsibly by supporting your local organic/free-range farmers — do it for them, yourself and for the animals.  You are what you eat, so make sure the animal was pampered as much as possible and not treated appallingly in some over-crowded factory farm.
  5. Exercise and Movement — Most people shudder at the ‘e’ word but come on!  We need to move our bodies and build up a sweat every day.  Find something fun to do — it doesn’t have to be all grind at the gym, you know.  READ HERE for 25 fun alternatives.
  6. Lactose Leery —  Yip, my favourite — not!  I love my dairy, especially milk.  Although I still smuggle a piece of cheese every now and then, I have cut out most dairy.  I supplement rice milk powder in my hot drinks and smoothies it’s actually quite yummy, so I’m not really missing the cows milk much.  Here is an article about the dangers of dairy CLICK HERE.
  7. Organic, Fresh, Raw — You guessed it!  Eat as much organic, raw fruit and veg as you can — especially the green leafy kind.  The more alkaline your body (as in at least 51% alkaline) the less your changes of getting cancer.  Why?  Cancer cannot survive in a body that is predominantly alkaline.  Do yourself a favour and check this chart out — CLICK HERE.  Better still, start your own edible patch — after all, the word on the street is that revolution starts one veg garden at a time!
  8. GMO Wary — Frankenfoods should be setting off alarm bells in your head.  If you’re still not sure why, then you can  READ MORE HERE.
  9. Cut Back on Carbs — Yeah, carbs are delicious but here is some food for thought about these sticky starches:  10 Dangers of Carbohydrates by Dr. Dana Myatt.
  10. State of Mind — You simply cannot thrive on stress, anxiety, anger, fear, regret or other negative emotions.  You can experience them but know that it too shall pass.  If you find yourself harbouring ill-feelings, especially the inability to let go or forgive, you need to explore those emotions and release them in any way you can.  You may have the healthiest diet and the fittest body, but if you are holding onto resentment or anger, you could be a breeding ground for dis-ease.  You’ve got to shovel through your muck and turn them into compost for future growth.  Remember to water that compost with copious doses of healthy self-love!
  11. State of Heart — Listen to your heart and trust your gut instincts.  We all have the natural ability to gauge situations and using our heart-sense will help steer us in the direction of healthy choices for joyful living.  The best thing we can do for ourselves is engage in complete awareness and to take responsibility for our actions.  The ability to drop into our heart centers for guidance will make for a more switched on humanity.
  12. Get Dirty — Right, bear with me here…has she lost her mind, you might ask?  Perhaps, but there is something truly magical to be gained in working with you hands and/or feet in the dirt.  Get into the garden and connect with your planet.  Feel the earth beneath your feet.  Play in the mud.  It’s actually got a name and it’s called ‘earthing’.  For more about this glorious practice and the many ways you will benefit from it — CLICK HERE and HERE.
  13. Smoke and Drug-Free Zone — The less chemicals we pump into our body the better.  Enough said! Still not convinced?  Okay, READ MORE and HERE.
  14. Medicinal Laughter — l mean, seriously — who doesn’t like a good belly wobble?  But did you know that giggles and guffaws come with some seriously wicked benefits?  Like reducing the risk of strokes and heart attacks!  READ MORE HERE.
  15. Get Plenty of Sex!  Just when you thought I’d suck all the joy out of life with this list, I go and totally redeem myself! So, if you are of consensual age and understand what a true and loving relationship built on a deep sense of trust, integrity and openness is then this is the kind of intimacy I’m talking about. Sex has a number of proven benefits for your health but I’d like to reiterate that sex is a sacred union and should not be engaged in flippantly.  READ MORE about the benefits of the side-ways tango HERE.
  16. Candid Coffee and Caffeine — Interesting that I stuck this one at the end…not really.  I LOVE coffee but I know that it affects me badly.  I still sneak in a cup or two every week (*slap on the hand* ) but I am totally aware of what it does to my body (severe lower back pain due to the detoxification of the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys).  You can READ MORE about it HERE.  I know, it’s a real bummer and believe you me, I’ve tried so hard to debunk that coffee is bad for you but, alas, to no avail — got to tell it like it is.  When I went through my coffee detox I climbed the walls with my eyelashes for 8 days — the pain was that bad!  Coffee is toxic and make no mistake, it’s a drug.

Will doing all these things above guarantee a disease-free body?  I can’t answer that.  The only thing I can guarantee is that you will regret not trying.  It’s more difficult to live with ‘what if’s’ than knowing you tried your best to look after yourself.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and don’t completely overwhelm yourself trying to adopt these life changes.

Start slowly and steadily by choosing one thing from the above list to incorporate every week and see how your life and body starts to change.

Attitude vs No-Tolerance Bullshit-o-meter

You may say today that you don’t give a shit about what you’re putting into your body but let me tell you — the day your body starts packing up is the day that you will bloody eat those words!

Get real and start treating your body like the divine temple it is.

If, after reading this article, you ask (and, yes, I can read your mind):

  • What’s the point in living if you can’t eat sugar, fast food and alcohol?

My answer has to be that you are sorely missing the point of life.

Life is for grand adventures, loving relationships, meaningful encounters, creative expansion and joyful explorations — if you are only living for your next oral fix then you’re kind of missing the game entirely.

Don’t live to eat — eat to live.  Don’t let any thing come between you, your ideal body and an ecstatic life.  Besides there is much to be enjoyed by eating healthfully — you’ve just got to give it a chance.

New Life Resolutions Cherie Roe Dirksen

New Year, Blah Blah…

“When you map a way to your success by gradually achieving your markers, then you are proactively making new LIFE resolutions.”

We’ve just entered our first week of the new year and I bet a lot of the best-intentioned resolutions you made have already been kicked to the curb.  Was it all just a bunch of yada-yada on New Year’s Eve?

Thing is, it’s difficult to suddenly change a way of doing something overnight.  Of course, it is admirable to make better choices in our lives but we also need to be kind to ourselves.

What does that mean?  Are you off the hook to go binge drink or keep smoking that pack of fags?

Not entirely.

Decisions for Life

“The key is to be gentle with yourself and take baby steps to a goal.”

When we make resolutions, they are usually set with the intention of bettering our lives by improving on health, wealth, relationship, etc. — right?

Here’s the part where you have to be kind to yourself — Rome wasn’t built in a day!

When we make resolutions to sever bad habits ‘from this day on’, we don’t usually allow ourselves to digress — it’s make or break time.  However, we are all human (well, most of us anyway) and we all make mistakes.

The key is to be gentle with yourself and take baby steps to a goal.

Sustainable Solutions

It’s brilliant to want to make improvements to your life.

When you map a way to your success by gradually achieving your markers, then you are proactively making new LIFE resolutions.

Whatever you want to quit, try to first cut back on — this way you won’t overwhelm yourself and plunge into old habits after your first deviation.

Become more aware if you do fall off the bandwagon.  Don’t judge yourself.  Just pick yourself up and dust off — reassure yourself you’ll do better next time around.

For example:  if you really feel like something, have it (within reason).  Consciously consume it with the awareness of what you are doing.  This way you bring your consciousness into the forefront of the behavior or addiction and you can simply observe yourself in the act.

In moments of quiet reflection, ask yourself:

  • How did this make me feel?
  • Is that why I did it?
  • How do I feel now that I’ve done it?
  • How can I better serve myself next time?
  • Is there something else I can do to get that fix naturally?

Awareness is salient to change.

Change is the only constant and we are all always in flux — it’s something we simply can’t avoid.  So embrace your new intentions with the will to slowly and steadily shift into that new way of being.  Forgive yourself for veering, if you do, and congratulate yourself on what you have achieved.

Get Harmony for Free! Six Simple Ways to Reconnect with Spirit

Why (Hu)gh Jackman Has Got Nothing to Do With This

Harmony — My Christmas Gift to You

A New Vision by Cherie Roe Dirksen

System Reboot

I don’t know about you, but I’ve kind of slipped off the bandwagon lately with regards to ‘me’ time.  I don’t know if its got to do with moving house and having an endless list of things to do or being in the midst of the silly season but quiet, reflective time is relatively scarce.

Or is it?

I realized that all that is really needed when we fall from the above-mentioned carriage is to get up and dust off.  A kind of rebooting is required.

Simple Ways to Reconnect with Spirit

So, as I was thinking about all the yoga, meditation, reading and general connecting with spirit I have been neglecting, I saw that all I needed was a swift kick in the derriere to get myself motivated again.

All we need are simple tweaks in our daily routine to get back on track.

Speaking of tracks…when I was composing my mood music albumNature Calling’, the first song I wrote was called ‘Harmony’.  I actually composed it as a zoning out, meditation tune — a quick 5-minuter that can realign you and make you feel at peace with self and nature (which I will be offering to you as a free download below).

So first on the list of reconnecting with self is:

  • Take 5 — As little as 5 minutes meditation time can give you an added boost to your day. You can do this in silence, you can find a guided meditation that works for you (there are loads on YouTube) or you can pick a relaxing tune to chill to. I am offering my track ‘Harmony’ as a FREE DOWNLOAD HERE so you can have a go-to track readily available whenever you need it.
  • Stretch It — Do some stretching exercises to release tension and get you feeling all loosey-goosey. I have been doing a quick 5 minute yoga stretching routine for years now  — something I picked up from a Deepak Chopra book — and it works wonders. You can type in ‘stretching yoga exercises’ into Google and get some quick and easy ideas of how to do this.
  • Grounding/Earthing — This one is uber simple to do. Go outside (where there is earth or grass), take your shoes off and feel Gaia’s energy! This is such an awesome practice and it is so healing. Read more about Earthing here on CLN: Grounding for Body Equilibrium and Health
  • Hu — No, this is not taking time out to perve over Hugh Jackman, Hugh Grant, Hugh Laurie or any other fine Hugh-named celebrity. It’s an ancient practice of sounding out the word ‘HU’ (pronounced like ‘Hugh’ or ‘hue’) to get in touch with the God-self. It’s a great mantra to use for overall well-being.  For more about the HU technique CLICK HERE.
  • Reading — This is also something that I love to do but sometimes find little time for. But really? One doesn’t have to finish a novel to get the benefit of a bit of reading down-time — you can surely put your feet up for just 10 minutes to get the advantage of loafing with a book?!
  • Get Real — This last one is about what you’re putting into your beautiful, divine body! Yip, I can just feel you rolling your eyes. It’s especially hard to remember to honour your sacred, fleshy temple when Christmas feasting is just around the corner. I’m not saying you can’t indulge a little, just try to be mindful. A few minor adjustments could mean a world of difference to how you’re feeling. Drink lots of pure water before and after drinking things like coffee or alcohol. Remember to add equal amounts of fresh fruit and veg to your daily meals. Tune into your body on a regular basis to see if what you’re putting in is affecting what you’re getting out.

Use this list as a little bag of tricks that is doable and doesn’t require a hell of a lot of prep work or time.

Especially now that we are in the peak of the holiday season and spending oodles of time with family and friends, never mind the over-indulgence that is brimming on the horizon (brace for impact)!

You’re going to need all the help you can give yourself.

6 Essential Steps to Manage Stress

Do You Believe in Magic?

Finding a Reason to Smile Every Day

Mona by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“You can always alter your reality at any time.”

Owning Your Power

You’re probably familiar with the saying ‘what you think you create’ but how can you seriously filter every bad thought? Surely it’s a struggle worthy of giving up on before you even get started?

Certainly not.

There’s only one person responsible for what you think and do and that’s you. If the thought of being the creator of your reality scares the willies out of you, then read on…

The Freedom to Be Happy

“Emotions back your thoughts into manifestation.”

Can you remember learning how to swim or ride a bike? Can you see how determined you were to succeed because you knew the pay-off was going to be huge?

You may have started off with water-wings, splashing about aimlessly— gulping in water — or peddling your heart out whilst trying to maintain your balance even with the training wheels on! But that child never gave up.

Then what came next once the wheels were removed? Probably scrapes and bruises the first week but did that deter you? Did you give up then? Probably not. You wanted to ride! You were hell-bent on feeling the wind on your face and the freedom that would bring with it.

Same goes for swimming — gliding about in the water refreshes and frees your body of weight. You knew that swimming was going to be the biggest trip ever!

Where am I going with this? Your thoughts need training wheels/water-wings if you want to experience the same freedom from negative thought. And here’s how you’re going to do it…

Getting Real Right NOW

Here are a few things you can start to do today to become more aware and proactive with your thoughts:

  • Morning Motivation — When you wake up, give yourself 5-10 minutes to think about what how you want to see this day play out. See if you can catch any worrisome or negative thoughts before they take hold of the exercise. Put up a STOP sign in your mind and gently kick those blighters to the curb. Then bring your focus back to visualizing your positive day ahead. Try to smile and see/feel yourself enjoying this bright new day. Emotions back your thoughts into manifestation.
  • Mind Mangle Cleanse — During the day (if you are but a mere mortal) you will probably find yourself slipping into worry, blame, anger, despair and an array of other harmful mind banter. You may even find that your head is throbbing because of all the distorted ‘mind mangling’ that’s going on up there. Here’s your chance to hold up that STOP sign again and see if you can look at things from a different perspective. Most of what we worry about never comes to pass and most judgments/situations when seen from a different angle can evoke empathy instead of anger. See if you can alchemize your thinking — in other words, find the treasure in the trash.
  • Marrying the Mind — When you start to get a hold on your thought stream and just how much power you DO have over it, you can start to have a better relationship with your thinking. You are now in control and you can focus your inner dialogue on what serves you instead of calling in all the unwanted experiences. Start your affirmations off with a strong ‘I am…’. For example ‘I am going to have a great day today’, ‘I am going to have a safe trip’, etc. Try avoid the phrases ‘I desire’ or ‘I want’ because it only brings more desiring and wanting for the future. When you use ‘I am’ it is in the present tense and is happening right now not in some future timeline.
  • Re-Member — We often get lost in ‘doing’ and not ‘being’. Try to remember all the things that make you happy and bring you joy. When you smile the world smiles with you. So, remember to feel gratitude for life, nature and the people that make your world spin. Look at every magnificent dawn or sunset as a blessing, every fragrant flower or birdsong as a gift, every smile or hug as a gesture of love and draw on those experiences when you’re in a negative frame of mind. See if you can remove yourself from a negative situation and sit under a tree or listen to some soothing music. Seek out those small but beautiful moments in your life and embrace them. Hold them close to your chest and bring them out when you need to. It’s bound to make you smile. You can always alter your reality at any time. Don’t forget that. If you choose to stay in the gloom, then just know that ‘this too shall pass’.
  • Over and Out — At the end of the day, review what happened and see if you can pick out any situations that you have turned around in reality. Did you manage to have a good day? Did things turn out like you affirmed in the morning? Or close to? Or can you do better tomorrow? Keep trying and if you do see results it’s going to make you more determined — just like that little tike on the bicycle, gearing up for the next day’s practice. Because you know that practice makes perfect!

You will get a grip on your oh-so-powerful thought stream and you’ll be able to eventually steer those thoughts to benefit your life in ways that will make your head spin — in a good way!

Now it’s up to you to give yourself a reason to smile every day.

‘Origins’ — Free Movie Premiere to Help You Thrive!

“The world is becoming more toxic… and modern technology can’t fix it. But human history can.” — Origins

I stumbled upon this movie as I was surfing the net from my pillow this morning — at the time I was still blurry eyed and in the throes of waking up.  I bookmarked it to view at a later stage.

After returning from my local organic farmers market ladened with fresh, scrumptious produce and sampling the most succulently red, raw beetroot — it triggered a memory that this movie (which primarily is rooted in our consumption of ‘frankenfood’) was still stored in my iPad.

As I am a sucker for synchronicity, I decided that now was the time to watch it.

He Who Hesitates….Well, You Know

I sat down to consume this documentary and, boy, did I get a fire lit under my derriere!

I particularly loved the opening scenes which whisks you off to the tip of South Africa (Cape Point) which is where I hail from — my ‘origins’.

But apart from the sentimentality of home, the beautiful cinematography and careful construction, research and — dare I say — palatability of this doccie galvanized me to want to share it with you as soon as possible.

What Are You Going to Get From it?

Here’s a few key aspects that are covered to whet your appetite:

  • Our primal origins and symbiotic relationship to the earth
  • How we have lost our connection to mother nature and how to get it back
  • How we can still live in a technological age but with a more responsible approach
  • Discover why antibiotics (which literally translates as ‘against life’) are weakening our immune systems
  • What you can do now to improve your well-bring and life and see results within 3 days
  • Why you need to take responsibility for your health and vitality instead of leaving it in the hands of greedy corporations
  • Why food is medicine and we need to invest in better nourishment for ourselves and future generations

Well, I hope you’re hungry for more.  Please click on the link below to watch this movie (1hr 41mins), after all, it is the weekend and you deserve some inspirational downtime.

Please note:  It is free to watch during the preview window which started on 13 November 2014, so, I suggest you curl up on the sofa today and devour!  After the no-charge period, I believe it will be available to purchase on DVD through well.org.

Most of us strive to gain a better grasp and understanding of life and the meaning of it all.

We all know of or have heard about those magical ‘a-ha’ moments.  You know the ones — when some great profundity just clicks into place like a key sliding into a lock and opening a door to a dazzling new way of thinking…

These epochs can happen at different times and with different events, conversations, books, movies, articles or whatever else happens across our paths at that special moment.

I want to share a few inspirational quotes from some of our greatest spiritual teachers.  I hope they help you to live a more joyful and fulfilling life.

1.  On Taking Responsibility (or the ability to respond)

“Wherever you are, be there totally.  If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options:  remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally.  If you want to take responsibility for your life you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now.  Then accept the consequences.” — Eckhart Tolle

2.  On Meditation and Mindfulness

“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” — Lao Tzu

3.  On Integrity

“Be impeccable with your word.  Speak with integrity.  Say only what you mean.  Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.  Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.” — Miguel Angel Ruiz

4.  On Forgiveness

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else, you are the one who gets burned.” — Buddha

5. On Unity Consciousness

“If we have no peace it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” — Mother Theresa

6.  On Feeding Positive Outlooks

“Instead of focusing on the world’s problems, give your attention and energy to trust, love, abundance, education and peace.” — Rhonda Byrne

7.  On Joy and Purpose

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” — Maya Angelou

I have left out about a gazillion glorious quotes here — if you have a quote that you live by or gave you your ‘a-ha’ moment, please share in the comment box below. :)

The Joy of Moving, Not!

It’s not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it.” — Hans Selye

I’ve just recently moved 300km from the outskirts of the Mother City to the rolling hills of the Karoo countryside.

Yes, it was a stressy move (especially as we had a cat who sulked at us for weeks for transporting her in a car) but once we had unpacked the mountain of boxes and had everything in its right place — it was time to relax. Or was it?

Stress Building Exercises

I have never felt more stressed out in my life!

Firstly, let me say that we had rented previously and this was our first home we’d actually bought. Now for all the home-owners out there you’ll know what I mean when I say that buying your own place — as exciting and gratifying as it is — comes with a never-ending ‘to-do’ list.

My partner and I have been working day and night, week day and weekend.

So in amongst the drilling, painting, erecting, digging, measuring, assembling, cleaning and various other forms of stress-building activities, I started getting some pretty clear signals — via my body — that I was starting to take my anxiety levels to new heights.

My symptoms went a little like this:

  • My shoulders ached (‘carrying’ too much — in this case it was anxiety)
  • My head hurt (too much on my mind — ‘what to do next’)
  • I kept on scraping and scratching my fingers and hands (perhaps a message to stop doing and rest?)
  • My legs started cramping and finally, I walked into an old and rusty steel rod that took a bit of my ankle out (another sign from the universe to stop and rest?!)
  • My emotions were running high and tears were at the ready too often (overwhelm)

Another thing weighing heavily on me was the fact that I had stopped working (as in ‘career’ working) for over 2 months and bills needed paying.

HELP!

I was drowning.

We’ve all been down this road before in some form or another. The thing is, what to do when we feel this sense of overwhelm and helplessness creep over us?

Tipping Point

When I had reached my tipping point (when I was actually getting ‘grounded’ by my physical aches and strains) I started looking at where I was going wrong. Oh boy, was I straying way off path!

Here is what I learnt:

  • Frequent Breaks — This is such a no-brainer but I actually need to remind myself to take 10 minutes out every now and again. I am the kind of person who starts a job and wants to see it done NOW. That’s actually just self-defeating and stupid. When you do that you usually rush the job and don’t do it properly. So, remember to take little breaks to become more productive in the long run and keep your sanity and body in check.
  • Hydrate and Nourish — Again, sometimes we are so ‘in the zone’ that we forget to take time out to eat and drink (or at least I do) which can cause a sudden drop in your blood-sugar levels. When you run yourself into the ground like this it isn’t easy to pick yourself up again. I get very ratty and irritable and the mood just spirals downwards. Before it gets to this stage make a point of drinking lots of water and eating healthy snacks.
  • Schedule — This step probably helped me the most. I sat down one morning and it took me just 10 minutes to figure out a game plan. I did a quick list of what I wanted to achieve work-wise and with house/garden chores for every day of the week. I have been sticking to this and my shoulder pain and head-aches have gone away. I don’t feel overly anxious all the time and now I feel I have an achievable order in which to get the jobs done.
  • Importance List — Sometimes we just need to organize ourselves better as in with the above ‘schedule’ step. But to go a step further, try to — on a weekly basis (or whatever suits you) — sort out the order of importance of each task. When you start knocking ‘em down you’ll feel great!
  • Joy — This comes to me in the form of just sitting/walking in nature and being. You can also call this step ‘meditation’. You’ve got to connect with your core daily in order to have a balanced existence. I went totally off the rails when I moved, feeling so overwhelmed with everything that needed to be done, that I forgot this vital step for weeks! Now I make a point of doing this as often as I possibly can every day.
  • Sleep — I am going to bed a lot earlier because I’m pretty much pooped every night (in a good, satisfied way though) but I am sleeping like a log. When I wake up in the morning I am refreshed and I start all over again with a spring in my step. I can’t express enough the importance of a good night’s sleep.   Make it happen! Drink chamomile or Valerian tea in the evening, wind down by listening to soothing music before bed, take a warm bath in lavender essential oil — do what you must to get that proper downtime that your body deserves.

These small and totally doable exercises helped me to take the edge off my stress levels, I hope they help you too.

Warning: 4 Reasons Why You Should Avoid Venus Fly-Traps

Girl with Flower Banner

“If everybody minded their own business, the world would go around a great deal faster than it does.” — The Duchess (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

Hmmm, yes.  What is it about human nature that keeps our noses continuously stuck in other people’s affairs?

In my short and humble opinion, there are 4 possible reasons that instantly spring to mind (and they all involve a Venus Fly-Trap).

  1. The Smoky Mirror (a definite trap!)
  2. Avoidance (another trap that doesn’t involve Venus but a sticky void and a particularly intriguing dance.)
  3. Self-Importance/Ego (just like an irritating fly that won’t go away — where’s a trap when you need one?)
  4. Drama Addiction (the fully grown Venus Fly-Trap, or, perhaps more of a ‘shut your trap!’)

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall — Who’s the Smokiest of Us All?

Let’s take no.1 — that smoky mirror analogy.  People that volunteer themselves to get entwined in the business of their fellow man, usually have some characteristic of what they are judging about others lurking about in their own foggy behavior.

Sometimes we hide these attributes so well, that we can’t seem to see those attributes in ourselves.  This takes a lot of introspection to weed out.

Next time you find yourself judging someone else’s behavior, try to see if there is any essence of ‘you’ in the opinion.

The ‘smoky mirror’ (smoky = hard to see through, mirror = others reflected in us) is not going to be the case every time you identify or see a particular unnerving trait in another but the projection of our own inadequacies sure does tend to happen a lot, so be aware and look out for it — best to nip this mannerism in the bud before the bud turns into a fairly peckish Venus Fly-Trap and makes a meal out of you.

Dancing in the Void (A-Void-Dance)

No. 2 is similar to no. 1.  Avoidance is just not being able to take responsibility for your own short-comings, so you deflect the attention to make yourself look and feel better.  In other words, you know you’re a gossip but you make sure you let the world know what an even bigger tittle-tattle Peggy-Sue is.

Now you’ve safely fudged over your own issues.  However, before success settles in just remember that you’ve  got to face your shadow head-on or that Venus Fly-Trap is gonna get ya!

Shoo Fly —  Don’t Bother Me!!!

“…nothing kills the ego more than hilarity and humility…”

Good ‘ol no. 3 is that juicy little shit-stirrer — the ego.  The ego thrives off drama and misery and putting itself ahead of the pack.  Sticking your nose into someone else’s business is ego-fodder.

You can make yourself better than, slimmer/tottier (I’m sure I just made that word up!) than, prettier/handsomer than, cleverer than, more successful than so-and-so just because it gives your ego those 15 minutes of superiority— even if you don’t say it out loud.

The silent ego is just as dangerous as the overly loquacious  e-goo (terribly gooey and all that jazz).

Just like the sticky residue in the Venus Fly-Trap — your icky e-goo can get you into some sticky situations if you are not aware it’s rearing that self-important head (down boy!).

When the ego has you by the short and curlies, you tend to compare yourself and you’re usually the one that comes out on top.  However, don’t be fooled!  The ego is cunning and manipulative and can make you feel less than too.  Both are a trap and both are easily avoided with the light of your illuminating awareness.

Have a good laugh at your ego if you find yourself in its throes — nothing kills the ego more than hilarity and humility.  Show the ego who’s boss — they key is to control the ego and not to let it control you.

The Amateur Dramatics Society — Putting on a Show Near You!

“Remember that taking offence is a choice.”

No. 4 is like the smorgasbord of the lot — you can find a little bit of each trait in no. 4 — the drama addict!

Have you noticed how some people cannot live without drama?

There you are trying to get off the wheel of karma and leave your drama at the door while others are trying to hook you back into the cycle.

There are some people who will purposefully go out and purchase a ravenous Venus Fly-Trap, stick their finger in the jaws of the plant and howl when it clamps down and draws blood.  If you are one of these eager consumers, I wish you luck on your journey and can’t quite understand the pay off.

However, if you are someone who wants to keep a potting shed full of petunias rather than a carnivorous plant, take my advice and set your boundaries.

If someone is trying to lure you into drama, don’t try to run away from them (fence-sitting is just not an option anymore — you know it will always come back at you until you face it), don’t confront them with the ego (as in start an argument — you will then have stepped right into the trap and fed the drama) — simply speak your truth or stand firm in your conviction (whatever that may be) and walk away if appropriate.

Empowerment is always about standing your ground and not letting people overstep your boundaries and doing that in a way that does not provoke aggression or submissiveness.

You’ve got to aim straight down the center and tell it like it is — speak your truth and straight from the heart.  If you offend someone, that is their choice and they will have to deal with it.  Remember that taking offence is a choice.

The Long and Short of Your Schnozzle

As you probably figured out by now, this article has got very little to do with Venus Fly-Traps — disappointing, I’m sure.  So, what’s the moral of this tale?  Live and let live.

You can powder your nose, you can blow your nose, heck, you can even pick your nose if that’s your thing — but whatever you do, keep your nose out of other people’s business.  If they want your hooter present they’ll ask for it.

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”  ~ Alfred D’Souza

Movies and Revelations

Don’t you just love it when a movie hits on a spiritual epiphany?

I was watching a flick called ‘About Time’ when something profound cuffed me upside the head. It’s actually nothing new — just another perspective of that elusive pot of gold called present moment awareness.

Brain Enemas and Rosy Tinted Specs

I felt like some zesty lemon juice had been poured through every wrinkled crevice of my brain — cleansing out all that old fluff that seemed to be impairing my vision.

Most of us are aware of ‘the present’ and just how important it is to stay grounded and supremely concentrated in the moment because this is where our joy lies. We know now that future yearning (or fretting, as the case may be) and past residues keep us forever longing for our bliss, like a carrot being dangled in front of an ass (yes, deliberate use of ass as I think we can all relate to feeling like one from time to time).

The thing is, we sometimes feel bogged down in this world full of chaos but we can always don our rose-coloured glasses to be able to see the beauty in the maelstrom.

But how can we effectively live in the moment?

Living This Day Again

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, there was a scene where the time-traveling father says to his time-traveling son that the one thing he’d learned about being able to repeat history is going back and living the same day over twice.

Seems pretty strange, doesn’t it?  Who would want to repeat the same day again?

However, his son tried it out and on the first day he hustled and bustled through a typical working day, missing out on all the delights that could have been because he neglected to see that each moment was a gift. He then went back on the same day and things went differently. Because he had already lived the day before, he knew that every obstacle or worry in his day would be sorted out so he approached this day with joy and ease.

1. He delighted in his encounters with people.

2. He put people’s minds at rest that everything was going to be alright with resolute authority.

3. He treasured every sacred moment with his wife and family.

4. He had fun. The scales had dropped from his eyes — the world hadn’t changed, how he experienced in it had.  Life wasn’t about one drama after another, nor was it about worrying and fearing the future — it was about relishing the moment and truly living each day as if it were the last. To take things as they come and know that all things will pass, so all will be well.

A New Recipe For Life

How many of you stress about death (not just your own but people or animals you love), worry about situations, get anxious over things you need to do?  I’m guessing quite a lot of you.

I’ve been having my fair share of problems lately ranging from family to business but the one thing that keeps on boomeranging back to me is just to let it be (thanks to The Beatles for pointing that one out!).

Be in the world, not of it — don’t sweat the small stuff.

Point is: You create your world and a good place to start is to be grounded in each moment. Be present in your life and don’t let events just take place around you. Be the event!

Here is a list of things you may need to allow:

1. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  Alchemize your negative situations by

New Divine You Cover

Do you know you can download my book for free? Click the picture above

finding the diamond in the rough. Diamonds are produced by coal being under extreme stress — turn your stress into a precious gem.  There’s something in every situation for us to learn and grow by.

2. Accept that which you can’t change by trusting in divine flow. Send love and turn your situation around by visualizing how you would like to see it play out. Keep realigning to your desired outcome through positive affirmation and clear visualizations and you’ll be surprised how things turn out for the better.

3. React if you need to — blow off steam, vent, scream… shout, shout, let it all out (shed your fears through tears — Tears for Fears)!  But then give yourself time and space to clear your mind, meditate and ground yourself. When you are calm and relaxed, solutions tend to rear their heads. Nothing can get through the fog of anger and frustration, so remember to meditate daily.

4. Reality can be harsh but remember that you are spirit having a corporeal experience — learn the art of detachment and you will soar higher than you ever imagined! After putting this list into practice, I find myself surrendering to the present moment a lot lately and blissing out even amidst the most chaotic of times (once I’ve had a good cry about it, of course!).

Take Back Control

Some things in life can’t be completely controlled but we can sure influence them to our greatest good by taking a leaf out of ‘About Time’s’ script and treasuring people’s company, finding bliss in the mundane and being the still presence that helps other people to be cool, calm and collected.

Why it Hurts So Much When Someone Lies

Can Music Jump-Start Humanity’s Awakening?

Musical Ensemble by Cherie Roe Dirksen

“Music can change the world because it can change people.” — Bono

Music is a powerful, invisible force — from the heart-expanding sound of a nightingale to the gut-wrenching frequencies that all genres of music can sting you with.

I think you would be hard-pressed to find a single human being who doesn’t love music in some form or another.

Music Goes Straight for the Jugular

Music has played a vital role in bringing global issues to the ears of thousands, if not millions, of people.

We had The Beatles gift us with ‘All you need is love’ — not only a catchy, warm and fuzzy chorus but a very wu wei (non-doing/action) spiritually insightful message in the verse.

The 1970’s had Neil Young courageously recording ‘Ohio’ — a brave and gutsy protest song highlighting the shocking shooting of 4 student protesters at the hands of the National Guardsmen under the Nixon government.

Eddy Grant made a stand with his anti-apartheid song, ‘Gimme Hope Jo’anna’ and Bob Geldof with Midge Ure managed to put together Live Aid, the global jukebox which brought the entire world together through music for a cause — an estimated 1.9 billion viewers watched the live broadcast.

“Music is the shorthand of emotion.” — Leo Tolstoy

These are but a few examples of music spreading messages like wild-fire — let’s face it, the news reaches a select few whilst music reaches the masses.

Would You Like Some More Subliminal Politics with Your Rock?

More recently we had British band, Muse, naming an entire concert ‘HAARP’ just to bring about more awareness to the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program.  And let me tell you, it worked!

I had no idea what HAARP was until I saw the concert and got curious.  It enticed me to watch the documentary, ‘Angels don’t play this HAARP’ — which I highly recommend.

“Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” — Jimi Hendrix

And who didn’t simply relish the Red Hot Chili Peppers for ‘Californication’ — the tempting yet fake dark-side of the Hollywood dream?

Music exposes us to issues and rattles our cages.  It galvanizes us to take action, it can be the biggest catalyst for change.

“None but ourselves can free our minds.” — Bob Marley

Stuck in The Net and Punching the Sky!

I have worked with musician, Templeton, on many of his projects — from designing 3 of his album covers to working on his music videos.  When he called on me to help him edit his latest project, ‘The Net’, I was blown away!

His song really got me all energized and stirred something in me that was palpable — like I needed to stick it to the man (whilst playing some air-guitar)!

This got me thinking about music and it’s influence on the masses, which inevitably culminated in this article you’ve just read.

Before I introduce you to the song that sparked off this blurb, I want to ask you (because I know I’ve left out a gazillion songs that need mentioning here):

  • What song does it for you?
  • Which timeless classic gets you riled for action, firing on all cylinders, ready to take on the fat cats, electrifies your mind, enlightens your soul or was just darn right instrumental in your awakening?

Please leave your comments below.

Back to ‘The Net’…

“The chorus exclaims a lot of ‘Yada yada yada’ which is an urban term for a conversational gloss-over, much like ‘blah blah blah’ (empty talk). It is also a Hebrew word meaning ‘to know’, which is what this song is truly about — to get people to know the truth and to stop listening to all the bullshit.” — Templeton (excerpt from song description)

This song is worth sharing — from it’s unstoppable toe-tapping, rock beat to the underlying message of exposing the distorted media, the imminent uprising of the youth and the most obvious solution to all the global BS.  Here it is:

3 Crucial Steps to Self Acceptance

“When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.”
Bernard Meltzer

Forgive and Let Go

You may already be aware that to forgive another person does not condone their actions but frees you from bondage.

When you hold a grudge, you inadvertently hold yourself in a head-lock with the other person until you can forgive.  So, without releasing that person through the process of forgiveness, you tether yourself to him/her/them indefinitely.

If that’s not encouragement enough to start the process of forgiveness then I don’t know what is.

However, what I want to explore in this article is self-forgiveness.  A topic that can easily be misunderstood, brushed aside or not even thought of.

Surely it’s those people in our lives that have done us wrong that need our forgiveness, not ourselves?

Why You Can Be Your Worst Enemy

Funny thing is, a lot of us find it much easier to forgive others than to turn the action inwards.

It’s so much simpler to have the heart to exonerate another but we go into a flat tailspin when we start to dive into the watery abyss of all the things we’ve done to ourselves that need absolution.

You know what I mean, don’t you?

We have done so much harm to ourselves through:

  • Negative Self Talk
  • Missed Opportunities
  • Laziness
  • Fear
  • Stubbornness
  • Disrespecting Ourselves and Others (whatever harm you have done to another is a direct blow to yourself — there is no separation)
  • Lack of Willpower and the list goes on…

Have you forgiven yourself these indiscretions?

Steps You Can Take Today to Start the Healing Process

Do you know that we each have a shadow self?  A part of us that feels unworthy, guilt and shame.  Do you squash this part of yourself every time it pops up to say ‘Yo!’?

You’re not alone.

First things first — we are dichotomous by nature.  We live in a third dimension of duality and we experience the yin and yang, light and dark, feminine and masculine, good and evil aspects of everyday life…well…every day!

You can’t truly be a human being if you are not experiencing these dualistic traits on a daily basis.

And there is your gold!  We are ALL human — we ALL make mistakes.  Goodness me, if we were all to carry the blame and shame on our backs as a physical representation of how we feel about ourselves, we would all be seriously misshapen.

Isn’t it about time to embrace your duality in order to truly feel whole?

Here’s what you can do to start making peace with your faux pas’:

  • Know that you are required to make mistakes in order to grow, learn and have a contrast with which to work from (i.e. how would you know what you want if you don’t experience what you don’t want?).  Affirm:  I forgive myself for making mistakes and give myself permission to live to my best ability even if it means making more blunders.
  • Cut yourself some slack — to err is human, to forgive is divine and seeing you are both, I think you have permission to accept your mistakes and find the hidden gems within your ‘unworthy’ experiences.  Affirm:  I forgive myself and will look for the positive aspects of my seemingly negative actions and where they have brought me on my life path.
  • Put the whip aside!  We are all guilty, I’m sure, of being an asshole at some point in our lives — it doesn’t mean you have to flay yourself for your lack of good judgment over and over again.  Be kind to yourself as you would any other.  Affirm:  I forgive myself and will not, from this point in time, rehash past mistakes to punish myself further.  I am whole.  I am human.  I am Divine.  I am.

You are proving your worth when you’ve tripped just by picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and carrying on down that yellow-brick road.  Be kind to yourself when you stumble and know that there is always a lesson in the fall.

“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.”
Mark Twain

The true warrior always mines the mistakes for the treasures and let’s him/herself be at peace with making miscalculations.  This is divine balance and the acceptance of every aspect of the self.

Turning Trust into Money

“Someone who thinks the world is always cheating him is right. He is missing that wonderful feeling of trust in someone or something.”
— Eric Hoffer

How Trust Can Bring You Abundance

I believe in what I do and what I have to say, so when I saw this new video circulating Facebook I just had to share it with you.

It’s called An 8-Foot-Tall Woman Is Destroying The Entire Music Industry’ and it’s a TED talk by Amanda Palmer.  Take a look for yourself, in case you haven’t seen this already:

The Penny Drops!

What this brave and courageous woman had to say resonated so much with my soul, it left me shell-shocked for about an hour while I tried to process this invaluable information and apply it to my entire life.

What stood out for me were the similar experiences of self-doubt:

  • Is what I’m doing of use to others?
  • Should I get a ‘real’ job?
  • Am I just kidding myself?

I have 3 passions in life, every one of them has brought me to these questions (and brought me to my knees!).

Careers with Bad Reputations

I started out as a musician in a band but…

My Limiting Belief:  Musicians are bums and lay-abouts, they don’t ear money. No-one takes you seriously.  Get a real job.

Then I pursued my love for art and I became a full-time artist but…

My Limiting Belief:  You can’t make money being an artist, you’ll struggle all your life.  Get a real job.

Then — oh God forbid — I started to write!  And…

My Limiting Belief:  Writers are poor, they don’t earn money.  If you don’t make it onto the Best Sellers list you’ll never make it.  Get a real job.

Money, Monks and Misunderstandings

The Peacock Nymph by Cherie Roe Dirksen

The worst part of it was that I am a ‘spiritual’ writer and there is a hefty stigma that you should not earn money off spiritual advice.  After all, stereo-typically monks, nuns and Buddhists are humble, simple, poor people.

I also tend to shudder when I see a sight offering spiritual advice accompanied by a paid subscription.  However, I’m the one with the problem — everyone has a right to earn money.

Money is an energy swap.  I give you, you give me.  The figure of eight is complete and everyone walks away with an equal exchange.

I am one of those people who cringes when I have to ask for money.  Something in me thinks that it’s like begging and that is shameful.  I seriously need to get over it if I’m going to keep up my chosen career.  If I don’t, there’s a nice cashier job waiting for me at my local grocer.

The Two Common Stumbling Blocks

Asking for this ‘energetic exchange’ or money brings a strange dichotomy.  The problem, as I see it, lies with these two things:

  • Self-belief/love — Do you believe that your product/service/talent is worth it?  I.e. are you worth it? Are you creating/providing a service from a place of love and passion?  Or is this a means to an end?  From my experience, if you don’t love what you’re doing, you’re in big trouble when it comes to integrity.  Doubt will creep in where there is no passion.
  • Fair exchange — Here’s the humdinger.  What to charge? Yikes, I’ve encountered so many people who suffer big time with this.  They either charge too little for their expertise or they charge too much.  In the latter case, it’s just because they may be in a profession where there is potential to charge a lot but they are not experientially there yet.  They shoot themselves in the foot by charging professional prices with beginners experience.

The Solution

Ginger Goddess by Cherie Roe Dirksen CLN

Love what you do.  Have a burning passion for what you do.  Trust in your clientele or the people you exchange your services with.  If there is a way that you can let them determine what you are worth, then go for it.  Trust that they will reimburse you with fairness and integrity.

I’m not saying everyone will give you what you or your services are worth but it’s in my experience that more people than not, will compensate you appropriately when given the chance.

Letting as Opposed to Making

In the video, Amanda Palmer said that instead of asking how to make people pay for services you should let them pay.  That was my ‘a-ha’ moment.

With our economies in collapse and the entire global population wondering if money will even be present in our future, this novel idea of trust in commerce rings bells in my head.

We are moving into a new consciousness on this planet — heart-centered living — and this kind of energy exchange just might work!

Let’s Put Integrity to the Test

I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is (pun intended!).  I’ve just self-published my second book, ‘Carpe Diem or Bust — a Spiritual Guide to the Good Life’, and I want to share it with the world — whether I make money from it or not.

Of course, I’d like to make money as I’ve also got bills to pay but I believe in this book so much that I’d rather it got read than having it be just another Amazon book statistic. That’s not why I wrote it.

I know it will help people but I also know that a lot of people won’t read it because they can’t afford the luxury of buying books right now.  So, in light of what has just been discussed, I am offering my book to you for free.

I trust that you will enjoy it and find the information on the pages of value and should you wish to contribute — by donating to keep me and my passions alive — then you are most welcome to pay whatever you want to.

Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen

Are You Speaking Badly About Someone or Merely Speaking the Truth?

I pray on the principle that wine knocks the cork out of a bottle.  There is an inward fermentation, and there must be a vent. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Here’s a difficult topic — are you a gossiping Gerty or is your mouth sealed so tight, you’ve become a clam?

This has been a hot topic in my circle of friends lately as we are all trying to remain in our integrity and avoid that dastardly, lower vibrational activity that is gossip.

Have you noticed that when you are either amongst people whose mouths are flapping off about someone else that you feel quite uncomfortable — like a squirmy little worm who needs to wiggle away to find richer soil?

Maybe it’s you who has started yapping about someone else and you later feel incredible guilt about this — you bad dog, you!

I’m sure that most of us have been guilty of the odd gossip at some stage in our lives but what is the difference between talking behind someone’s back and actually venting about a situation?

Calm Dialogue versus Dramatization

Sometimes two friends get talking and the next thing you are venting about someone who is causing some irritation or discomfort in your life.  You feel that the kettle is boiling and a little steam needs to be let out.  It’s healthier to blow off a bit of steam than it is to wait until you explode!

Now, how do you do this without gossiping?

Let’s clear this up with an example of a dialogue:

Art by Cherie Roe Dirksen 2You:  My sister is really irritating me lately.  She just keeps on getting into trouble and I have to bail her out all the time.  I’ve had enough.

Your friend:  Maybe you need to give her a little bit of space so she can work things out on her own.

You:  Yes, it will be difficult but you’re right.  Helping her out every time she’s in a mess is actually disempowering her and frustrating me.  She needs to face the consequences of her choices.

Your friend:  Exactly.  Make sure she knows you love her and the reasons that you are detaching and see how it goes from there.

Okay, now I know that this scenario is like the most ideal dialogue ever and in real life it’s going to sound a teensy-weensy bit different (especially if you are really pee’d off) but you get the gist of it, right?

This is an example of allowing yourself to vent or talk about something/someone that is on your mind in a way that is in your integrity (i.e. the truth of the situation) and is done in a tactful manner.

Let’s take a look at the flip side of the coin:

You:  My sister is such a mean person. I can’t handle her rubbish anymore.  She needs to just get out of my life for good!

Your friend:  I know!  I’ve never really liked her.  She is such a leach and you have done so much for her.

You:  Tell me about it!  And what do I get in return?  All her grief and worries!

Your friend:  I’m going to give her a piece of my mind when I see her again.

I’m going to stop there because I can carry on for hours (*grin*).  It’s like the script from ‘Days of our Lives’.  Drama, drama and a little more drama!

Here is a prime example of gossip.  Can you notice the difference?

The latter dialogue is not coming from a place of integrity, it is coming from your ego that is offended and taking things personally.  There is no form of love in this rant.

Seek Out Compassion and Understanding and Venom Dissolves

Even though the person in question might be doing things to you that are less than loving, it doesn’t require for you to fight fire with fire.  The best thing you can do is to detach with love and find the compassion for that person.

Why are they hurting?

No-one who is in alignment with their core will find the need to cause you grief ergo they must be in pain.  You don’t need to heal their pain, only they can do that.  But you can exercise compassion and love them from afar.

Help if you can and it isn’t going to cause your energy to be drained.

We must learn how to explode! Any disease is healthier than the one provoked by a hoarded rage. ~Emil Cioran

So the upshot is to recognize the need to get something off your chest and to act it out in your integrity without giving into the ego and dramatizing the situation.  Tell it like it is and give yourself that much-needed space and time to open up and vent instead of bottling things up inside.

Blow off that steam whilst remaining impeccable with your words — I think it is possible, do you? Join the conversation in the comment section bellow

4 Ways to Motivate Yourself Out of Bed

Painting by Cherie Roe Dirksen ss

“I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

You may be good (or in the above case not) in bed but how good are you at rising? Right, now that I have your attention…

Are You a Morning or a Mourning Person?

I love to sleep in (don’t we all?).  But at some point of the morning one has to muster up the pluck to actually get out of that nice warm bed and brave the cold/the kids/the untidy house/the boss/the traffic/the kitty litter/(insert general problematic encounter here).

As I was lying in bed this morning, blearily preparing to pry open my eyes, I started with my morning ‘head banter’.  I then realized that my thought process on this fine and sunny morn would make for a titillating blog (always capitalizing on my life!).

If you are one of the lucky few (0.001% of the global population) who eagerly jumps out of bed at the crack of dawn with a glint in your eye and a spring in your step — bully for you!  However, even you may glean value from what I’m about to divulge.

“You will start to see just how incredibly powerful you are as a creator of your experience.”

Here it goes, my list of morning motivating muses:

1.  How Do I Want Today to Turn Out? As Will Pharrell sang, ‘It might seem crazy what I’m about to say, Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break. I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space. With the air, like I don’t care, baby, by the way…Because I’m happy‘ — try to start your awakening mind rolling in the direction of a positive affirmation, like telling yourself just how bizarrely splendid today is going to be.  Hell, it could be the best damn day of your life!

Let your thoughts steamroll with the idea of having good things happen to you on this day.  If you have something to do today that you are dreading or feel uneasy about, now is your chance to manipulate that situation to how you want to see it play out.  If it is a dreary task or something with unavoidable lackluster, tell yourself that it is going to go quickly and smoothly so you can get on with something fun afterwards.

2.  How Is Today Going to Look?  As you lie under your cozy covers, start to visualize this splendid day — make a movie in your head.  Start to see how you want it to pan out — direct, director!

You can draw it out with a detailed synopsis or you can conjour up a quick run-through.  Just remember to see yourself smiling and laughing a lot.  Have copious amounts of ‘good times’ squeezed into this productive day.

Whenever I do this visualization technique, it really does affect how my day starts to unfold (for the better).  You will start to see just how incredibly powerful you are as a creator of your experience.

“You’re only as excited by life as how exciting you can be…”

3.  Who Do I Want to Be Today?  Express yourself!  You’ve got to ‘dress for success’.  Jeez, I feel like I’m writing about Pop songs here.  This may seem like a bit of a strange and unspiritual thing to put in this article but I’ve only just started seeing this from a new perspective.    Men, this applies to you too.  There is nothing wrong with expressing how you feel or your personality externally and it is becoming more and more acceptable for men to convey this type of sassy style and creativity.

I can also get into the rut of ‘dressing for comfort’ but have recently realized that it can get uber boring!  I’ve been exposed to the delights of that online ‘visual’ feast site,Pinterest and, oh boy, have I got some fashion ideas!  It can really broaden your style horizons (and I could do with a bit of that).  After brain-storming, I have taken my existing wardrobe and fallen in love with it due to a few tweaks and accessories.  I now dress according to my mood.

I could be a rock chick one day, a jeans and t-shirt girl the next, a sweet-16-and-never-been-kissed maiden (yeah, right!) to a sophisticated business woman — anything goes where the mood flows (and, yes, I can also just be in a sweat- pants and jumper mood).

It’s heaps of inventive fun!  To add even more pizzazz to this daily routine, I sometimes tease my hair and stick it up in a beehive like Elvira or create a rat’s nest, for those of you who can cast your minds back to the ‘80’s, looking like Kim Wilde or Bonnie Tyler. As the saying goes ‘change is as good as a holiday’.  My husband has a good chuckle on these ‘hair’ days when he sees me emerging from the bathroom after hearing the spray can at work.  However, the main thing is to please and dress for yourself — if other people don’t have the guts to go a-la-mode, don’t let it put you off your pursuit.

Don’t take yourself too seriously either — experiment with your individual taste and mood and make this about fun.  This is just another way of spicing up your life and getting creative.  You’re only as excited by life as how exciting you can be or, to put it simply, exciting is as exciting does.  You have a corporeal ‘Earth Suit’ while you are incarnation — you may as well use it to have some shits and giggles.  Just remember when you look good, smell good and feel good — you exude confidence, which is key to having a good day.

Metamorphic Dilatation Painting by Cherie Roe Dirksen 250x259 4 Ways to Motivate Yourself Out of Bed4.  What is the Soundtrack of Today?  This is my favourite step of the feel-good program — figuring out what musical mood I’m in.  When I make up my mind, my toes are already itching to hop out of bed.

After having your first cup of the day accompanied by catching up on the latest articles on Lightworkers World (*wink*), music can be a terrific motivator — especially when you are doing something mundane like housework or on your commute to work.

Put on that Queen greatest hits CD and hoover to ‘I want to break free’ or plan what music to listen that will elevate your mood whilst on your way to work.   I actually cannot do the dishes without having some form of toe-tapping tune on the stereo.  Spoons make for great pretend microphones and dishcloths can be stretched to make great air guitar solos.

When I’m driving, what I’m playing over the system has a tremendous effect on how jovial my trip is.  Seriously though, music has a tendency to make things better and kick-start your day.  Combine a cup of coffee or ginseng tea with Jimaroquai and you will be instantly transformed into a Duracell bunny.

I hope these tips works for you!  Please do share your thoughts or successful morning rituals in the comment area below.

My Fairytale Romance

I met my husband when we were still at school.  It was love at first sight.  We had a 4 year fun, tumultuous, exciting, frustrating, explosive and exploratory courtship and then decided to take it to the next level.  We got married in 1996.

We never looked back.

Turning Pumpkins into Golden Carriages

After 17 years of being happily married, I can safely say that I may know a thing or two about keeping a healthy, thriving, loving and successful relationship alive.

We have both been working from home over the last 8 years, so we are in each other’s hair 24/7, 7 days a week!  However, we still manage to fall in love anew each and every day.

Here’s how:

  •  Communication — this is a biggy, hence why it made it to the no. 1 slot.  I learnt this early on in our marriage.  If you don’t have an open channel of communiqué, your relationship is doomed.  You will start assuming, begrudging and pretty much get the wrong end of the stick every time you decide not to openly talk about your problems.  Women are usually good at communicating but we also need to learn when we’ve said too much and when to start listening.  Men are generally not the best communicators — so guys, you need to work on your listening skills, it could save your relationship.  And there is no greater turn on than a man who listens attentively. Always make your dialogue an even contribution.  This means that you both get time to state your case and —on pain of death — don’t override, scream over or continuously interrupt your partner.
  • Trust — we all have the capability to earn and lose trust.  One can always build up trust if it is lost, you may have to work a little harder but trust is an integral part of building the foundations of a lasting partnership.  If you let that little green monster called ‘jealousy’ into your relationship, you are on shaky territory.  If your partner is not trustworthy, you need to look elsewhere.  I know this sounds harsh but a relationship without trust is disaster-prone.  If you’re a jealous person and your partner has done nothing to make you distrustful of him/her, you are also walking the gang-plank.  Be careful, your jealousy could drive your partner to the edge.
  • Excitement — never stop jazzing it up!  Don’t fall into the trappings of complacency.  Do you look good on the outside?  I’m not implying plastic surgery nor am I implicating that you have to be a beauty queen or bodybuilder.  Just don’t let yourself go, this is a no-brainer.  Keep your appearance fresh and appealing.  If you want an attractive partner, you’ve got to keep yourself well-groomed, fit and clean.  It also doesn’t hurt to keep in shape and have strong personal hygiene routines.  You’ve also got to spice up your love life every once in a while.  Don’t do anything you don’t feel comfortable with but don’t be closed to all ideas — you never know what might literally tickle your fancy.  When it comes to everyday life, you’ve also got to think out of the box.  Doing the same thing week in and week out is boring.  Inject a bit of pizzazz into your social/play-time schedule.  Keep trying new things like eating out at that new restaurant, taking trips to museums/exhibitions, trying out a nightclub or just getting out into nature together by enjoying a stroll on the beach or a hike up the mountain.
  • ‘I Love You’ — not a day goes by when we don’t express this simple phrase to each other.  Don’t take for granted that your partner knows how you feel.  A little love goes a long way.  Hugs and kisses are also great daily practices, especially when they come at unexpected interludes.
  • ‘Thank You’ — always show your partner gratitude for what they do.  From the smallest things — like doing the dishes or picking the kids up from class — to the bigger things — like working hard or being a great listener or shoulder to cry on.  Appreciation shows you partner recognition.

They Lived Happily Ever After…

HeartsWhen you excite and love yourself with your particular brand of uniqueness and zest for life, you’ll be an electrifying, lovable, irresistible rogue to your partner.  Own who you are and what you want out of life and make sure you are allowing your partner to express the same thing in his/her life.

Be open to change, new ideas and constant dialogue and you will be well on your way to a successful, healthy relationship that will last.

A partnership is all about balance, love and respect.

4 Things to Ask Yourself When Searching for Purpose

When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous. ~Wayne Dyer

The Burning Question

African BeautyWhat is my purpose?  The one sweltering question we try so hard to answer and fulfill in our lives but often leaves us cold, feeling confused or frustrated.

There could be so many possible answers.  More pressing is the fact that sometimes we don’t just have one singular purpose, or, that purpose could change from day to day, year to year or decade to decade. We need to get comfortable with the idea of going with the flow and trusting our innate instinct.

Job Conundrums

We could be happily (or unhappily) plodding along in a job for many years when one day you wake up and being a (blank) no longer seems to ‘fit’ into your life anymore.

You scratch your head thinking what could I possibly want out of life now?  I thought I was a (blank)?’

Never label yourself as one thing or another — you will restrict the flow of your life.  The answer could be that you are a quantum, multi-dimensional, layered being.  This means that you could be causing change in many numerous ways, even on a subconscious level.  We have in built indicators that start beeping when your contract is about to reconfigure or needs to change.  This is why I will put emphasis on the fact that we need to learn to trust ourselves and our intuition. You may want to dig your feet into the ground in resistance but you need to entertain the prospect that it is time to move on.

You may either need to professionally pick up and move into another arena or to physically move yourself to another location to shine your light where it is needed more.

Change is the Only Constant

tree of life - serpentWe, as human beings, do not relish change.  In fact, for some, it is a frightening prospect.  The uncomfortable truth is that the only constant in this life is change.  The sooner you can make your peace with that, the better you will be able to adapt to any given situation.

The reasons for change can be countless and I like to refer to these seemingly non-linear events as ‘quantum’.  We are navigating in a world of quantum soup, where there are many probabilities layering themselves upon each other.  There are so many levels to our lives and the majority of these are unseen or subconsciously being carried out.  So if you have a niggling feeling that your life needs an overhaul, it is probably time to start making that happen.

The Universe, Source, Higher Self or God — whichever you prefer — has layered these events to unfold in divine timing and you will be gracefully cushioned to your next phase with ease — that is, of course, if you don’t resist.  If you insist on resisting the process, you will probably still get there in the end but it will be the long and bumpy cart-ride instead of the smooth bullet train.

From the Horses Mouth

Who Am II speak from personal experience as I have done a lot of job hopping and career labeling in my time. I started my young life out being very artistic and decided to become an Interior Designer.  Then I hit my early twenties and joined a band.  In between remedial jobs I decided to go back to art and became a full-time painter.  This was going well until I got my ‘spiritual nudge’ to write a book.  This confused the living daylights out of me because I had labeled myself as an ‘artist’.  I was not a ‘writer’!  However, I decided not to fight what was coming out and wrote my first book.

I realized that I loved writing — who would have thought?  I decided to write and paint but this became very taxing.  I got my final nudge to trim back on the art and concentrate on the writing, which is where I am at now. What this whole process has taught me is to surrender to the now and to not fear change because that is where your excitement lies.

Try asking yourself these 4 questions:

  • What do you feel like doing now?
  • What is it you would do if money wasn’t an issue?
  • What is your gut/instinct telling you?
  • Where do the synchronicities or signposts point you?

If you are having some challenges identifying your purpose, a good place to start is in meditation.  The wonders that quiet reflection can do is innumerable.  When you are in this state of centered awareness ask yourself ‘what is my purpose?’ and just see what comes up for you.

The answer could be immediate or it could take a couple of hours, days or weeks to come through.

Follow those Synchronous Markers

Rabbit prints The key is to be patient and follow the signs and synchronicities.  They will be there to guide you.  You will have your light-bulb moment if you are dedicated to looking for these pointers.

Just remember they can come to you in many ways— through dreams, meditation, the TV/internet/radio, through people or conversation and pretty much any other precursor that is relevant to your particular question or purpose.

But I Need to Make Money

Yeah, tell me about it!  We all need the green stuff to pay our bills at the end of the month, right?  This is a difficult one because during the transition you may not make the money you need to and this can often put people off pursuing their dreams.

The answer is that if you trust the process, the gates will open for you but you need to exercise patience and faith.  I know faith doesn’t pay the bills (unless you have a wealthy and generous Aunty Faith), but you can make a start at your dreams without giving up you day job for now.  Baby steps will eventually lead to you changing tracks permanently and having a solid foundation to do so in the future.

Where is my Pluck?

To have pluck is to be spirited with a determined courage.  Its very definition is inspiring — bravery, nerve, valour, guts and heart — but how can we truly embody this deliciously tantalizing trait?

If you feel you’ve lost your pluck or, perhaps, never had it in the first place — a good place to begin to look for it is within.

It cannot be found, with any sustainable long-term results, at:

  1.  The gym
  2. The latest copy of ‘Heat’ magazine
  3. The TV/gaming console or any other distracting electronic device
  4. The bottom of a bottle
  5. That new nightclub around the corner
  6. The mall (note to self — especially the shoe shop)

Don’t get me wrong — there is a certain amount of nerve that comes from wearing shoes that elevate you a couple of inches.

I’m not saying you need to stop doing any of these things if they make you truly happy, I’m just pointing out that the things on the list above can be titanic distractions if you are seriously trying to pursue better living.

There’s a bit of magnificence in you and it shines like a diamond, however, unlike a lump of coal enduring vast amounts of stress to produce a diamond — yours is innate.  It just might be covered in layers of soot.

Fight-or-Flight Syndrome

1 ButterflyWe Homo Sapiens have an inbuilt radar system called ‘fight-or-flight’.  It can be pretty useful in dangerous situations.

Say for instance, you are being chased by a lion (it surprisingly doesn’t happen often, I know — not even in South Africa, where I live) but for the sake of a good metaphor, I’ll use it.

The chances that you stick around to face your foe and brave out the storm are slim.  It would be far more prudent to take flight (preferably up a very high tree).  This kind of scarpering in the face of certain death is essential for survival.

To fight it — say perhaps you were armed with a rifle or a kilogram of catnip — may also be wise if there was a high possibility of success (i.e. living to tell the extraordinary tale to your grandchildren).

The only problem with this ingrained sense of preservation is it get’s in the way of our emotional and spiritual growth.

The Human Duress Barometer

The fight-or-flight response is also known as acute stress response.

Essentially, this response prepares the body to either fight or flee any potential threat — no matter what it is. It is also important to note that the response can be triggered due to both real and imaginary threats.

A lot of us have lost our magnificence and have given into the stress of trying to ‘stay alive’ or play it safe.

Uncovering Your Diamond

The SoulIt wasn’t really my intention to get you to accept your death in this article (although it certainly wouldn’t hurt), it’s more about finding your innate wisdom and knowing that all is well within you — your diamond core essence, living from your heart center.

To stand in love is to fear nothing — there simply isn’t enough space for fear.

In the Face of Inevitable Doom

I was in a discussion where two mature chaps, whom I happen to love and respect dearly, were debating what they would do in the face of a tsunami.

I said that it would be more compelling to stand your ground, knowing that you are about to enter a new phase in the chapter of your existence and to face the wall of water with a sense of awe and acceptance — to which one of the gentlemen concurred.

He said it would be better to face your death with love and peace in your heart and to enjoy the power of nature as the water swept you away.  What an amazing perspective — to actually enjoy your own death!

The other lad, however, was shaking his head at us, not quite believing what he was hearing.  He stated that he would turn tail and head for the hills!  He couldn’t quite understand why we would not want to save our lives.

We retorted by stating that if death was inevitable, the only thing you can do is to truly embody the experience of passing on.

If you can do this with a sense of security about who you are, embracing your divinity, and facing impending doom with reverence and love in your heart — you will die according to your own terms and not in fear.

When Mind and Heart Work Hand-in-Hand

We all need our minds to navigate and to add some kind of structure to our lives but, all too often, our thinking carries us away on paths that don’t serve us.  Our heart, on the other hand, is our intuition — our own personal guide.

If we can process situations through our heart first and then our heads, we would be living our luminosity.

To find the magnificence of your soul is to uncover heart-based living.  To truly encapsulate your divine essence that is immortal, wise and glorious.

You are more than a mammal walking on the face of the earth.  You are more than a statistic on a governmental consensus sheet.

You are a unique and heavenly expression that, with a bit of spit and polish, can radiate and cut through the heart of any situation to get to the deepest of truths.

You are pure magnificence wrapped up in a corporeal vessel.

“More important than the quest for certainty is the quest for clarity.”

The Secret to Living a Grand Life Revealed!

The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters. ~Audrey Hepburn

Forest 1

You want to know the secret, right? You clicked on this article because you’re itching to know what this underground, hush-hush truth to living a brilliant and fulfilling life is, don’t you?

You may initially be disappointed to know that it is not money, good looks, fame and fortune or bending over backwards in philanthropic or selfless pursuit.

Now, although there is no judgment in having any of these features in your life, there is but one simple attribute you can muster up in this very moment that will bring you into alignment. The many masters that walked the earth, did so with peace and content in their hearts because they knew this secret.

Something that is so ridiculously obvious to some but not so apparent to others.  ‘Oh what is it!’ I hear you cry. You’re just going to have to bear with me a little longer.  Something as fruitfully juicy as what I am about to reveal, deserves a big build up!

The Here and Now

Here we are incarnated on a planet called Earth. Humanity in its apparent prime — a species so trumped up with itself that in our pursuit to strive for greatness we miss a fundamental principle to life and existence. A principle so far out for some that it is overlooked and brushed off as bohemian nonsense — the right to life and a reverence for existence.

The what to who and the who to what?

Imagine a world where everyone had the exact same amount of love and respect for EVERY life form as they do for their own self (assuming that you have mastered the ability of self-love, that is).  But, ah, here bares the rub!

Self-Love or Bust!

Respect yourself and other will respect you. ~Confucius

When you attain that love for self that I’m speaking of, you usually automatically begin to love and respect others as well as every other form of life you encounter.  I am even including what is deemed inanimate objects here.  Everything on this planet has a presence, from the rocks, plants and animals to the soil, worms and the very core of the earth itself.

If you cannot see or feel this to be true, this article will not resonate with you.  If you feel just one iota of truth in this, please read on.

The Secret Revealed

Love is what binds us, respect is what unites us.  To have love and respect for all life forms guarantees you an excellent quality of life because you will be walking around in sheer reverence to all you come across.  There will never be a dull or uninspired moment.  Why?

Because when you bump into even a stranger, you will see God in his/her eyes.  You will look upon a flower and see the cosmos within the fold of its petals.  You will sit up against a tree and feel its life energy resounding through your core and you will sit upon the earth and feel her heart-beat pumping out the rhythm of all life.

Hippy Thinking or Revolutionary Insight?

Some of you may be thinking that I’m some deranged and dangerous hippy, you know, one of those people that doesn’t even want to eat a vegetable because they feel they are killing the plant.

No, not at all. What I am suggesting is that no matter what you do, do it with love and respect.  If you want to eat an animal, consume it with love and gratitude in your heart for its life and sacrifice.  When you press a ripe and bursting strawberry to your lips, give your utmost attention to its life force and presence (the sunlight that made it grow, the water that gave it its succulence, the earth that housed it). You see nothing ever truly ‘dies’, it is transmuted.

Whether You or the Animal is Lunch

The animal becomes a part of your biology as does the strawberry.  You become part of the earth again when it is your time to move on (or in the unusual circumstance that you decide to go on a rather unsuccessful safari, you may become a lion’s appetizer and therefore be at one with the lion and eventually come out as the fertilizer for the earth).   Life really has got a sense of continuity (and humor), no matter which way you perceive it!

Find that humor in life, find the peculiarity of oneness with life and find the love for being a part of this unique system — life.  See yourself in everything and everything will reflect the wholeness of your being. Feel the life force in everything and shift into unity consciousness.  Do this and you will step into love and bliss.

8 Life Strategies That Playing Chess Has Taught Me

Being a Rookie

Chess is a game that I love to play with my husband.  He is such an enviable strategist. When I first started playing with him, I felt like a complete fool every time he snookered my king and got me into check-mate.

When I let my pride take the back seat, I discovered a remarkable game that I could undeniably learn from whilst enjoying some quiet, reflective, quality time with my partner.

I found it a relaxing pursuit with red-hot moments of intensive brain-stretching — a great way to quantize your thinking.  It not only takes the grey matter for a stroll around the yard but also teaches you valuable lessons in forethought, planning, awareness and defense tactics.

Has Anyone Seen the Bishop?

I started to see more spiritual truths in chess the more we played; in fact it was beginning to be a remarkable representation of life!

It aroused me to apply these teaching to my own life situations and, if not why not, to other people’s life circumstances too.  A lot of people are already either inadvertently or deliberately playing chess with their situations and relationships.

It opened my eyes and taught me that there is usually either a way to slip out of trouble or to catch yourself and your opponent by surprise with your brilliant and calm maneuvering capabilities.

Be Your Own Knight in Shining Armor

Just when things start to look hopeless, you view your game from a different angle or perspective and you move to the side and allow danger to pass.  What a great allegory for life!

Here are some of the life strategies chess has permitted me to comprehend:

  • Multi-layers — there is always more than meets the eye in any given situation.
  • Patience — slow and steady wins the race.
  • Side-Stepping — there is usually either an evasive move or a counter-action you can take when in the face of danger.  Don’t lose hope.
  • Shifting Views — when things are looking dire for you, all you may need is a shift in perspective that can open up new doorways.
  • Positive Outlook — always try to stay optimistic and you will habitually figure out a good move to make.
  • Acknowledgments — congratulate your opponent on good moves — you can learn from them too.  Don’t let your pride get in the way of wisdom.
  • Grace — be a good loser because you never really lose in life, you just start a new game and learn from the previous one. So hone in on your skills by learning from your mistakes — nothing is ever in vain.  Be a gracious winner too, there is no room for friends in your life if your big head is taking up all the space!
  • Always Have Fun — enjoy the process, the game of chess (life) is exciting, invigorating and challenging — all of which keep you feeling alive, vibrant, polished and motivated.

Metaphors and Metamorphosis — from Pawns to Kings

I love painting life experience with intriguing metaphors and feel even more elated when such an analogy becomes a bald-faced truth.

When we can become the observers of life’s smaller things, like an innocent fixture of chess, and transform it into a fresh perspective of life, it changes us.  We start looking all over for these spiritual growth sign-posts and we usually find them in the strangest of places.

Chess is the ultimate sport of existence and even though I know the strategies have been used in more negative life experiences, such as war and devious corporate obliteration, it can also be used to your advantage in co-creating your reality.

Give yourself a game plan and be flexible enough to discern inherent dangers whilst on track, this way you will be able to metaphorically duck and dive bullets (just like Neo in The Matrix movie).  Be cunning and graceful and you will never be caught off guard.  When you are, don’t give up, learn from it and reload your experience as ammunition for the next round.

There is never failure, only feedback.

People Who Own Their Lives Live With Conviction

“When you take a stand out of deep conviction, people know. They may not even agree, but they ask, ‘Do I want someone who is willing to take a hard stand and someone I can trust to do that when the chips are down?’ They want that”. ~Barbara Boxer

Thumb-Sucking in Society

So many people today seem to be mulling about — scampering hither and thither with no real purpose in life.  I’m not implying that you need to have one, two or even three main drives in life, your primary purpose should really only entail the betterment of yourself and, if you can manage it (but usually comes with the package of self-improvement), the betterment of other people’s lives as well.

This does not necessarily mean that you need to don a nun’s outfit and become the next Mother Theresa.  It simply means to live with integrity and to let that little light of yours shine, shine, shine.

For want of not breaking out into song at this point, I will swiftly move on.

So many ‘self-help’ writers (including myself) bang on about purpose but let’s take a look at another word today — conviction.

What does it Mean to Live with Conviction?

Simply put, conviction is a firmly held belief. You can start to act upon your convictions today by ascertaining:

What is it that you stand for?  Is it love, world peace, justice, having a jolly good time, a particular cause, educating the next generation, spreading your particular brand of creativity, etcetera?  Get clear on your legacy. How would you want to be remembered?  This can usually point you in the right direction.

Then ask yourself how you are embodying this?  In other words, how are you walking the talk in your everyday life?  You can either take giant or baby steps to stand in the light of your convictions or you can just talk about them.  If you choose the latter, you’re not going to be judged by me, but you need to then own that decision too.

Conviction is worthless unless it is converted into conduct. ~Thomas Carlyle

Living your conviction, in my tangy opinion, just means to go for what you believe in guns blazing (not literally, of course). Own your choices. The golden rule is to not infringe on anyone elses free will.

Are you Wishy-Washing Your Life Away?

Conviction is a way of taking responsibility for your actions no matter what you are doing. If you can’t take responsibility, then you shouldn’t be doing it.  Chances are that you are going to end up blaming everyone else but yourself for any future repercussions.

Don’t be a ‘poor me’, be an ‘I-know-what-I’m-doing’ kind of chap/lass.

Own your life, own what you want to get out of it, own that you are still learning and growing, own who you are and what you stand for and most of all own the fact that it won’t last forever.

We are in this theatrical production of life together, we will come and we will go — make the most of it while you can.

Hello, Steven Spielberg!

We can write and act out a drama, comedy, romance, horror, sci-fi (if you have the relevant props and celestial connections) or a feel-good script (heck, it could even be a combination of all!) — this is your God-given free-choice.  Live it with conviction and your life story will not only make it onto the Top ranking DVD list but could also end up on Blu-ray.

Own it, be it, do it and then, when it is your time to exit — depart knowing that you truly lived.  If you leave this plane of existence having touched just one person’s life, you have made a difference!

Live like you mean it.

Finding God and a Reason for Being Here

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.” — John Lennon

A Non-Religious Point of View

I just want to say from the off that I do not subscribe to any religion and am not pushing any particular doctrine in this article, I am merely purveying the teachings of which I am most familiar with.

I have a great respect for all the various religious prophets.

From the time I was a young girl I have found the church and religious doctrine a very hard concept to grapple with. My father insisted I attend church every Sunday up until the age of sixteen, something I resented him for, but now, find to be not only a very synchronistic part of my life but a necessary part of my greater understanding.

Sampling Tasty Tit-Bits from the Melting Pot

Boat at Sunset PrintWhen I hit my teens, I started to sniff around gathering insights to other religions and spiritual practices.  I found that there is actually a common thread amongst them, one sacred truth to be shared – love.

“Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams – they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do – they all contain truths.”— Muhammad Ali

Although I never liked the power and control the church had over its congregation, I always thought there was some very spiritually sound advice in the Bible.  Some things did have their roots planted in truth, but I also felt that other teachings did not and had the air of control and suppression.

The Anointed One

The parables of Jesus Christ always felt like he had a greater understanding of the intrinsic nature of humanity and the way this world should be experienced – especially when he spoke of our innate divinity – being the sons and daughters of God.

I feel his teachings were deeply rooted in an inborn truth.  The meaning of which translates to a profound spiritual morality that addresses 4 fundamental core emotions and practices for humanity:

  1. Compassion,
  2. understanding,
  3. non-judgment and
  4. love.

If you want to solve all of the world’s problems, start practicing this list.  See divinity in others and you are well on your way to mastery.  I wrote an article a while ago addressing the fear-based myths about God and how to view humanity as you would view your own family and loved ones — you can read about that HERE.

Your Veracity Determines Your Reality

Tree PrintOur truths are buried deep inside, and the whole process of enlightenment is to shine a light on them.  When we do, we bring ourselves into complete clarity, alignment and wholeness.  This is not done by adding to ourselves, it is achieved by going within.  A good place to start is to adopt regular meditational practice (5 Easy Steps to Meditation) and to start exercising trust of your gut instincts.

“The flowering of love is meditation.” — Jiddu Krishnamurti

Jesus was a regular ‘hippy’ spreading the news of love for one another. If you clear all the dogma away around Jesus his message was simple:

‘Unconditional and Unequivocal Love’

We are Divine expressions experiencing the miracle of perceived natural life in the universe.

This life experience is a journey of self-discovery and should be that of joy, love, abundance, peace and wisdom.  You are in the driver’s seat of your life – steer it in the direction you want to head for not in the direction someone else programmed into your GPS.

Your life, your choices.

Source Energy and Experiential Life

The Hindus call the eternal, unchanging infinite that is beyond this universe, Brahman.  They refer to this reality/world as Maya – the personification that the material world is merely an illusion.

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” Albert Einstein

Lavender Field PrintThis illusory reality world concept can also be seen in the Matrix Trilogy, as humans are literally ‘plugged in’ to a computer-generated world (God bless the Wachowski siblings for making this movie and giving us such an amazing example of this very difficult theory!).

We seem to have lost the ability to see the forest for the trees.  We go around feeling a pit in our stomachs, that feeling that something is missing.

What is missing is your connection to Source.  The ultimate illusion is that you are lacking it.  You aren’t missing anything, you have just forgotten that it exists – and it exists within you.  Your heart center holds the vibration and frequency of the Creators love, the only true building block to your inevitable life’s manifestations.

Feeling Lost?

Home is where your heart is means that anywhere you are is your home – this could even refer to the planet you now find yourself upon.

You are never alone, because where you are, there is God.  Yearning to be somewhere or to be someone else is a self-defeating and self-destructive rehearsal.  Make peace with where you are, who you are and when you are and you will find your place in this world theatre – where you are the writer, director and actor of your very own stage production.

You are the Drop, so Own the Ocean!

We are all Creators living out our creation, we seem to have forgotten that. The ripples, that were born of the one drop, changed their size, and eventually went so far out into the ocean they forgot they were the ocean to begin with – the Source.

Enjoy your life and make your home at the core of your being.

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”― Anonymous, Holy Bible: King James Version
